Michigan-based retailer Meijer has confirmed plans for a new supercenter in Cranberry Township, Butler County, as part of a broader expansion into western Pennsylvania. The company has begun acquiring properties across the region, building on what it describes as strong performance in northeast Ohio. While no timeline has been set for the Cranberry store opening, Meijer said it is excited to bring fresh groceries and general merchandise to local shoppers. The retailer emphasised its commitment to quality products, value and customer service, whilst also pledging to be an active community partner. The expansion signals increased competition in Pittsburgh's already crowded grocery market.
Meijer will open a new 47,000-square-foot grocery format store on 6 May at 1495 N. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The location will be the family-owned retailer's 128th store in Michigan and its third grocery format store in the state. The streamlined format focuses on fresh food and everyday essentials at everyday low prices, featuring produce, bakery, meat, seafood, deli departments, pharmacy, and health and beauty sections. Meijer launched its grocery format in 2023 with two stores in Southeast Michigan and plans additional locations. The store will offer Meijer's digital shopping tools, including mPerks Shop & Scan, home delivery and pickup services. Hourly, part-time and full-time positions remain available. Meijer employs over 40,000 team members across Michigan.
Meijer will open its new Bainbridge Township supercenter in Aurora, Ohio, on 6 May, marking the family-owned retailer's 59th location in the state. The 159,000-square-foot store at 7300 Aurora Road sits on the former Geauga Lake amusement park site. The supercenter will offer fresh produce, grocery staples, bakery, meat, seafood and deli departments, plus a full-service pharmacy with drive-through, garden centre, and sections for apparel, home goods, electronics and sporting goods. Meijer employs more than 14,000 team members across Ohio at stores and facilities in Tipp City. The retailer supports local causes including the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and Cleveland Metroparks, and partners with the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians and Ohio State University Athletics. Select positions remain available for the new location.
Meijer has partnered with virtual healthcare platform WellSync to offer customers affordable telehealth services for common conditions. The service, accessible through Meijer's website and pharmacy app, costs $29.99 per visit and requires no insurance. Customers can receive treatment for conditions including cold, flu, allergies and hair loss from board-certified healthcare professionals. The service aims to remove barriers for those facing challenges with traditional healthcare access due to busy schedules or transportation issues. The Midwest retailer, which operates over 500 locations, positions the virtual care offering as part of its one-stop shopping concept. Customers can access WellSync through the Meijer website, pharmacy app, or by texting "Care" to 75049.
Meijer partnered with Oneupweb to increase traffic and conversion rates on the site and create a positive reputation as a national online retailer.
