Birdie

Birdie

Homecare software with eMAR and scheduling

Overview

Birdie offers a homecare software platform for agencies to manage care for older adults. Its tools include eMAR, digital assessments, task and medication schedules, plus analytics, rosters, and finance functions. A mobile app lets care staff access care plans offline and share real-time updates with clients’ families. The subscription-based model charges agencies for licenses, and the platform combines care management, scheduling, billing, and communications to reduce admin work and improve at-home care, with a goal to elevate the standard of homecare.

Birdie launches SmartPlans: AI that turns client conversations into care plans.

Birdie launches SmartPlans: AI that turns client conversations into care plans. Birdie's first AI product records the assessment conversation and drafts the care plan; free trials are available to all Birdie customers from today London, 9th June 2026 - Birdie, the smart technology platform for homecare, has today launched SmartPlans, an AI-powered care assessment tool that records the client conversation, transcribes it, and surfaces draft assessment answers directly inside Birdie. For most homecare agencies, a first assessment is two separate tasks. The visit itself takes an hour or more - sitting with the client, building trust, understanding their needs. Then comes the write-up: back at the office, in the car, or at home later that evening. In a survey of 150 homecare professionals, 86% said a first assessment takes between one and four or more hours from start to finish. SmartPlans uses the power of AI to transform this entire process. The assessor records the conversation on their phone. When they open the assessment in Birdie, the suggested answers are already there, cited to the relevant moment in the transcript, ready to review and accept. The post-visit write-up that used to take two hours now takes as little as thirty minutes. Charlie Hazell, Field Care Supervisor at Alina Homecare, was one of the first to use SmartPlans: "I literally love it. It took me about 20 minutes to write the care plan, saving me at least an hour, and the care plan details were so well-written and accurate, I was so happy with the end result". The first AI product from Birdie. SmartPlans is the first product from Birdie's dedicated AI team, with further products scheduled to roll out this year. Dr Jo Barlow, Birdie's AI Product Lead, said: "With AI, we could have started anywhere: there's no shortage of problems to solve in homecare. But the first assessment is where everything begins. Get that right, and everything downstream is better: get it wrong, and you're correcting it for months. It made it the perfect place to start Birdie's AI journey." Max Parmentier, Birdie CEO and Co-Founder, said: "Homecare has spent the last decade going digital. The next decade is about going smart - using the data and the workflows that now exist to actually improve decisions, not just record them. That's a significant shift, and it requires AI that care professionals and care recipients alike can genuinely trust. SmartPlans is just the beginning." SmartPlans reflects how Birdie builds all its AI: in plain sight. Every feature follows three principles: visible to the whole circle of care, so clients and families can understand the role AI played in their assessment; explainable, so care professionals can see exactly why a suggestion has been made; and controllable, so every decision stays in human hands. Max added: "We're able to build AI safely and quickly because we're not working from the same starting point as everyone else. Nearly ten years ago, Birdie was built on a single, unified data model - care, scheduling, finance, assessments, all on the same foundation. That's the reason we can build AI features in months rather than years, and it compounds. Every product we ship makes the next one faster." Clinical safety by design. SmartPlans is unique in having a three-tier clinical safety model. High-risk clinical questions receive no AI suggestions: SmartPlans surfaces the relevant transcript quote and the assessor writes the answer. For all other questions, every answer requires active sign-off before the assessment is finalised. On average, 80% of SmartPlans suggestions are accepted as-is or with minor edits. Built in, not bolted on. Unlike standalone AI transcription tools that generate a text summary and leave the care professional to copy-and-paste it into a care assessment, SmartPlans drafts answers for the assessment fields. The transcript lives permanently on the client's Birdie record, accessible to every authorised team member. Person-centred care, documented. SmartPlans captures what the client actually said in their own words and in full detail, making the documentation both more accurate and more personal. For agencies working toward CQC 'Outstanding' ratings, that distinction matters. Mat Spinks, Director at Carol Spinks, a homecare provider in Cornwall, said: "SmartPlans elevates person-centred care planning to a whole new level. By presenting the preferences and choices of people who use care services in their own words, it provides carers with a powerful insight into what truly matters to that individual." Pricing and availability. All Birdie partners receive three free hours of recording on SmartPlans - enough for two to three full assessments. After the free trial, SmartPlans is available on a pay-for-use basis at £3.50 per recorded hour. Partners who prefer a predictable monthly cost can commit to a subscription at a lower hourly rate. SmartPlans is part of the Birdie platform, and not available as a standalone product. About Birdie. Birdie is the smart technology platform that helps homecare agencies work smarter, not just harder. Launched in 2017 and trusted by over 1,200 providers to power over 68 million care visits annually, Birdie integrates every process from care management to finance, helping under-pressure teams work smarter to improve care quality and drive business sustainability.
