Allwyn appoints new interim chief executive.

Allwyn appoints new interim chief executive. Phill Walker will take up the role from 7 September, succeeding Andria Vidler National Lottery operator Allwyn has named former William Hill managing director Phil Walker as its interim chief executive. Walker will take over from Andria Vidler on 7 September, as Allwyn begins searching for a permanent successor. Vidler is stepping down after leading what Allwyn described as the biggest transformation of the National Lottery since its launch in 1994. Allwyn said it has invested £450m in the transformation, including major technology and infrastructure upgrades for its 43,500 retail partners, as well as changes to the National Lottery website and app. Walker spent six years at William Hill, holding roles including UK and Ireland managing director, online managing director and chief commercial officer. Allwyn said his digital, commercial and operational experience would support the next phase of National Lottery growth. Walker said: "I am excited and proud to be taking up the baton from Andria and joining such a vital national institution at this important stage of its growth journey. "As a long-standing National Lottery player, I know first-hand the difference it makes to communities across the UK and this is a huge part of what attracted me to the role. It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made." Vidler will remain in an advisory role until the end of October to support Walker and Allwyn chair Justin King during the transition.

Ex-William Hill and 888 exec to take reins of National Lottery firm Allwyn UK.

Ex-William Hill and 888 exec to take reins of National Lottery firm Allwyn UK. Published on: August 19, 2026 | Last updated: August 19, 2026, 11:55 AM Andria Vidler is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of Allwyn UK, and will be replaced by a former high-level figure at William Hill and 888 on an interim basis. The UK-facing division of Swiss-based multinational lottery and gaming giant Allwyn International, Allwyn UK is operator of the National Lottery as the holder of the fourth 10-year licence. Vidler will be replaced by Phil Walker as Interim CEO. A long-time iGaming professional, Walker is currently a Non-Executive Director of City Gaming, a high street slots operator in the UK, and is a former Chief Operating Officer of the Gibraltar Stock Exchange. He held senior executive roles at William Hill, one of the UK's oldest betting brands, for over four years, and was also Chief Commercial Officer at 888 Holdings (now evoke) between 2023-2024, following the firm's acquisition of Wiliam Hill in 2021. "I am excited and proud to be taking up the baton from Andria and joining such a vital national institution at this important stage of its growth journey,' Walker remarked. "As a long-standing National Lottery player, I know first-hand the difference it makes to communities across the UK and this is a huge part of what attracted me to the role. It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made." SBC News understands that Vidler's departure from Allwyn UK is a mutual decision with the rest of the group's board. Walker has been tasked with maintaining the momentum Allwyn has gained under Vidler's leadership, and with taking the business into its next phase of growth as National Lottery operator. Alwyn's big three years. Vidler became CEO of Allwyn UK in October 2023, 13 months after the company was awarded the fourth National Lottery licence by the Gambling Commission after a tender process throughout 2021-2022. Like Walker, Vidler is also a former 888 Holdings employee, having served as a Non-Executive Board Member at the LSE company from July 2022 until joining Allwyn in late 2023. Her tenure as CEO was marked by Allwyn's ascension to National Lottery management in February 2024. The firm will hold the contract until 2034, and has set itself the goal of doubling weekly returns to good causes from £30m to £60m by the time it is completed. "It has been a huge privilege to lead Allwyn UK through such an important period for The National Lottery," Vidler remarked. "The last three years have required enormous focus and commitment from colleagues right across the business, and I am proud of what SBC News has delivered together. "Above all, I am proud that this work has helped strengthen The National Lottery's ability to raise vital funds for Good Causes across the UK." The past few years have seen the firm contend with some legal challenges too, however, as dissatisfied parties in the 2022 licence bidding contest continued to fight the Gambling Commission's decision to award Alwyn the contract. A legal dispute with Camelot UK - the sole licence holder since the National Lottery's creation back in 1994 - was put to bed prior to Vidler becoming CEO when Allwyn acquired its competitor in late 2022. Richard Desmond, the UK media tycoon, continued to fight the Commission's decision, however. This was finally put to rest just last month when the Court of Appeal rejected Desmond's request to appeal the High Court's earlier rejection of his claim. The past year has also seen Allwyn embark on a modernisation of the National Lottery, specifically its retail terminals, a condition of its licence. This saw a huge upgrade of retail outlets across the country, in partnership with Scientific Games, and although some retailers expressed teething pains, Allwyn came off confident in its success. Reflecting on these efforts, Vidler remarked that "a marathon, not a sprint, and with the major transition now complete, and The National Lottery in a stronger position to keep delivering for the nation, this feels like the right moment for me to pass on the baton". Justin King, Chair of Allwyn UK, added: "With the major transition milestones delivered, now is the right time to look to the future and build on the solid foundations that have been laid to create a strong platform for future growth. "SBC News is pleased to welcome Phil as Interim CEO as SBC News continue to modernise and strengthen The National Lottery for players, retailers and Good Causes. "On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Andria for leading this transformation with drive, focus and commitment, and I wish her every future success."

Welsh tech company tiQtoQ extends National Lottery partnership with Allwyn UK.

Welsh tech company tiQtoQ extends National Lottery partnership with Allwyn UK. 13 August, 2026 Welsh quality engineering company tiQtoQ has announced the continuation of its partnership with Allwyn UK, building on a relationship that has supported one of the most significant technology transformation programmes in The National Lottery's history. The partnership began in 2022, as Allwyn prepared to take over the operation of The National Lottery under the Fourth National Lottery Licence. Allwyn officially became operator of The National Lottery on 1 February 2024, marking the first change of operator in its 30-year history. The company is operating The National Lottery under a 10-year licence and has set out plans to modernise its technology and data infrastructure as part of a wider ambition to transform the player experience and increase returns to National Lottery-funded projects. As part of that transformation, Welsh-based tiQtoQ has worked alongside Allwyn to provide quality engineering expertise. The company has previously described itself as a key supplier to Allwyn, delivering Quality Assurance and Testing capability for the Allwyn UK National Lottery Transformation portfolio. tiQtoQ is an independent quality engineering business providing services across areas including quality assurance, managed quality engineering, test automation, AI evaluation and cybersecurity. The company works across multiple industries, using automation, artificial intelligence and engineering expertise to help organisations improve the quality, reliability and performance of their technology. The relationship with Allwyn has now moved into its next phase, with tiQtoQ confirming that the partnership will continue following the transformation work delivered to date. "One of the most rewarding aspects of any long-term partnership is seeing what can be achieved when two organisations share a common goal. We're incredibly proud of everything we've accomplished alongside Allwyn, and even more excited about what we'll continue to achieve together in the years ahead." Pete Jones, CEO of tiQtoQ The continuation follows a major programme of technology change at Allwyn UK, which has placed digital infrastructure and modernisation at the heart of its plans for The National Lottery. Allwyn operates The National Lottery across both digital and retail channels, with players able to participate through its website and mobile apps as well as a network of more than 43,500 retail stores across the UK. Mark Smith, CTO at Allwyn, praised tiQtoQ's role in reaching a key milestone in the programme. "A massive thank you to the tiQtoQ team for their great work and relentless commitment in getting us to digital cutover and for your ongoing support over the cutover weekend and through warranty. It's greatly appreciated by all at Allwyn - we couldn't have done it without you." Mark Smith, CTO at Allwyn Allwyn UK CEO Andria Vidler also highlighted the scale of the work involved in the transformation. "This transformation has been one of the most ambitious of its kind globally, and it simply would not have been possible without your support." Andria Vidler, CEO of Allwyn UK For tiQtoQ, the renewed relationship builds on several years of growth for the Welsh technology business. Founded in 2016, the company has expanded its quality engineering offering to incorporate areas including AI-assisted test automation, AI assurance and cybersecurity alongside its established quality assurance services. With the partnership continuing, tiQtoQ said it is now looking forward to building on the work completed so far and supporting the next phase of Allwyn's technology journey.

Scientific games becomes primary partner of iowa lottery.

Scientific games becomes primary partner of iowa lottery. Allwyn UK COO departs for lottery consultancy career. Published on: 4th August 2026 | Last updated: 4th August 2026, 2:07 pm Chris Lyman has confirmed that he will depart his C-level position at Allwyn UK, the operator of the National Lottery. Lyman joined the company as its Chief Operating Officer back in April 2023. His LinkedIn page states that he vacated the position in June 2026, but he has only just confirmed it in the past 24 hours. His three year tenure at Allwyn UK came at a transformational time for both the company and the National Lottery, with Allwyn taking on the fourth 10 year licence in February 2024. The following two years have seen the firm take control of National Lottery management and initiate extensive modernisation programmes, including an upgrade to retail systems and the launch of new products. He leaves Allwyn amid the rollout of Powerball UK, a localised version of the hugely popular multi-state lottery product in the US, which has the potential for jackpots numbering in the billions of dollars or pounds, on rare occasions. "It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of the National Lottery and the Allwyn team over the past two and a half years," Lyman wrote on LinkedIn. "During that time, we've delivered retail and digital transformation on a scale previously unseen in the industry, introduced innovation to Lotto, and launched Powerball for UK players." As COO, Lyman worked closely with Andria Vidler, Allwyn UK's Chief Executive Officer, and the remainder of the company's executive leadership team as it pressed ahead with National Lottery modernisation. He described his part in this process as "one of the most rewarding and challenging chapters of my career", adding that he is "incredibly proud of everything we've achieved together". "I wish the team every success for the future," he continued. Prior to joining Allwyn, Lyman worked for Lotto New Zealand for over 10 years, first as COO between April 2013-November 2017 and then as CEO from December 2018 until joining Allwyn in 2023. His LinkedIn now lists his profession as Managing Director of Radburn Consulting, which Lyman has revealed will focus on "supporting organisations in the lottery sector through consultancy and advisory work". However, his social post announcing his departure from Allwyn stated that he is going to enjoy a "well-earned break before beginning the next chapter".
