Astrion names new CEO, taps leaders for space, growth roles. Astrion has appointed Tom Vice as executive chair and CEO, Eric Brown as president of space operations and allied missions and Conn Doherty as chief growth officer, all effective immediately. "Mission demands are increasing in speed, complexity, and consequence," Vice said. "Astrion's strength starts with its people - a talented team with deep mission understanding, strong customer relationships, and a proven record of execution. We are building on that foundation with focus, urgency, and resolve - strengthening what we do best today while expanding the operational capabilities, integrated solutions, and innovative technologies we bring to our customers. We intend to build on Astrion's strengths and deliver greater capability, broader innovation, and more decisive impact for the missions we serve." Vice succeeds Dave Zolet, who led Astrion since the company's 2023 launch and helped establish the company's strong operational base. "Building Astrion from three separate businesses into a $1B+ company is something I will always be proud of," Zolet said. "More than the numbers, I am proud of the team we built and the mission they show up for every day. Their talent, commitment, and mission focus is what makes Astrion truly stand apart in this industry." Vice served as CEO of Sierra Space, where he helped build the company into a $5.4 billion enterprise and led $1.7 billion in Series A and B capital raises. Before that, he was chairman, CEO and president of Aerion Corp. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at Northrop Grumman, including president of its Aerospace Systems sector and president of its Technical Services sector. Brown most recently served as vice president of mission strategy and advanced capabilities at Lockheed Martin Space. He has also held roles at Booz Allen Hamilton, URS Corp./EG&G Technical Services and PwC. Doherty most recently served as chief growth officer of CHAOS Industries. Earlier, he spent nearly two decades at Raytheon, RTX and Collins Aerospace, including as vice president and general manager overseeing battle management, command and control, and autonomy platforms.
Astrion promotes Ignacio 'Iggy' Alvarez to lead Air Force business. Astrion has promoted Ignacio "Iggy" Alvarez to executive vice president and general manager for its Air Force business, where he will lead the Air Force portfolio and oversee programs supporting operational readiness and modernization priorities, drawing on over two decades of military and industry experience. "Iggy brings deep operational insight, technical expertise, and a warfighter's perspective to everything he does," said Dave Zolet, CEO of Astrion. "His leadership, integrity, and dedication to our people and our customers make him the right choice to lead our Air Force portfolio." Alvarez joined Astrion in 2022 as a portfolio manager and has played a key leadership role supporting Air Force customers across mission-critical capabilities, including command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, fixed- and rotary-wing platforms, research and development, test and evaluation and cyber services. The company said his promotion reflects Astrion's focus on advancing leaders who deliver results and operate with a mission-first culture. Before joining Astrion, Alvarez held positions of increasing responsibility at Jacobs Technology, rising from program manager to senior director and portfolio manager. He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, commanding at multiple levels and concluding his military career as chief of the Secretary of the Air Force Communications and Information Programs Integration Branch. In that role, he led development efforts, congressional briefings and budget submissions for the Air Force's $7 billion IT portfolio.
Astrion CGO ronald Hahn announces retirement. Ronald "Fog" Hahn stepped down from his role as chief growth officer at Astrion after over two years of service to the defense, space and intelligence technology provider. The seasoned GovCon executive confirmed his retirement in a LinkedIn post Thursday. Who is ronald "fog" Hahn? Hahn joined Astrion as CGO in 2023. In the role, he oversaw the company's growth strategy, including efforts to capture government contracts. Before Astrion, the executive also held the CGO role at Client Solutions Architect, a company providing technology and operational support services to defense and federal government agencies. Prior to CSA, he was an executive vice president at Amentum, where he oversaw mergers and acquisitions, competitive intelligence, business development and other activities. Hahn's GovCon career also includes leadership positions at AECOM, where he spent five years as EVP, and URS Corp. Earlier in his career, he served as Special Operations Command chief for the Department of the Air Force. Hahn has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Delaware and a master's degree in military science from the Marine Corps University. What is ronald Hahn's approach to contract capture? In an interview in February 2024, he told ExecutiveBiz that, when pursuing contracts, he focuses on opportunities aligned with the company's strategy. "Companies tend to fall into a 'first in, first served' scenario with bid and proposal - or B&P - if you don't have a set strategy," he explained. "Regardless of size, this issue persists. You've got to keep your B&P dollars focused on the best opportunities for your customers, warfighters, and the company." He also said it is critical for companies to start the capture process early because last-minute bids have low win rates.
Internship wrap-up: A summer of innovation, learning, and lasting impact. This summer marked an exciting milestone at Astrion, Astrion Group successfully launched its very first internship program, The Explorers. Over the course of 10 weeks, its interns rolled up their sleeves, tackled real-world projects, and contributed in ways that made a meaningful impact across the company. As the summer ended, Astrion Group took the time to celebrate their accomplishments, reflect on the value of the program, and look ahead to what's next. Tackling real-world challenges: the Case Study. The festivities started with an Intern Case Study Challenge. Eleven interns teamed up to solve a business challenge faced by a fictional company, Acme. Their task: help Acme remain competitive and compliant while attracting cleared, qualified professionals for technical roles in its rapidly growing Andromeda program. The challenge was tough, vacancies were taking 60 - 90 days to fill, customer satisfaction was slipping, and the stakes were high. Acting as "strategy cells," each team developed recommendations and delivered executive-level presentations. * Group 1: Victoria Fotia, Natan Winter, Nicholas Mancini & Matias Camp * Group 2: Parker Stewart, Alexandyr Card, and Bipin Dhakal * Group 3: Michael Black, Eric Bullard, Kaia Wolfe, and Ashley Wilson After three impressive presentations, Group 2 took home the win - and a $5,000 prize - thanks to their innovative recruiting strategies. They proposed leveraging AI-powered web crawlers, refining internal mobility pipelines, and strengthening retention through culture and community partnerships. Their fresh thinking demonstrated exactly why intern perspectives are so valuable. Intern impact. Throughout their internship, its interns made their mark. Each one was assigned meaningful projects that directly supported Astrion's mission, whether that meant streamlining processes, contributing to major contracts, or injecting fresh ideas into ongoing work. Supervisors across departments praised the program for not only the extra support but also the unique energy interns bring. Their curiosity, creativity, and eagerness to learn often sparked new ways of thinking. This program wasn't just about training interns - it was about shaping the future of Astrion. Intern recognition. The festivities ended with a special farewell event at a Trash Pandas baseball game in Huntsville. Interns, along with the leadership team and other colleagues, joined the celebration. The evening was more than just a baseball game, it was a chance for interns to network, connect with leadership, and celebrate the success of Astrion's inaugural program. A highlight of the night? One of its own interns had the honor of throwing out the first pitch! Jacob Walker, a senior at Auburn University studying software engineering, worked on the ADD division under the IF/RCO contract as a software intern. His contributions, like so many others, advanced its mission and demonstrated the high caliber of talent in its program. Beyond summer: interns who stay. Even though summer has ended, the story doesn't stop here. Astrion Group is proud to share that 30 interns will continue with Astrion throughout the school year, extending their learning while continuing to support mission-critical work. This continuity underscores the strength of the program as both a talent pipeline and a growth opportunity. Looking ahead. Astrion's Explorer internship program was more than a summer experience, it was a launchpad for the next generation of innovators, engineers, and leaders. By investing in interns today, Astrion Group is strengthening its talent pipeline and building a foundation for the future. Astrion Group is proud of every intern who joined Astrion Group this summer and excited to see the long-term impact of their contributions. One thing is clear: this is just the beginning. The 2026 Summer Explorer Internship Program will kick off in late May/early June.
Last Friday, Astrion wrapped up an impactful week at the Space and Missile Defense (SMD) Symposium 2025, where its experts, technologies, and career opportunities took center stage against the backdrop of discussions advancing Golden Dome, one of the most ambitious missile defense efforts in U.S. history.
