Cytix

Change-risk platform for secure software delivery

Overview

Cytix helps large organizations govern software changes by using a change-risk platform that automates security assessment as development accelerates. It embeds into development workflows (such as Jira and GitHub) to determine whether a change is security-relevant, the level of risk it introduces, and the actions needed to mitigate it. The platform orchestrates automated security scans and human-led micro-penetration tests within the CI/CD process rather than relying solely on periodic compliance pentests. Cytix differentiates itself by tightly integrating change-risk assessment into software delivery, offering AI-assisted guidance and automated actions, and by partnering with managed services firms for deployment and support. Its goal is to roll out this change-risk platform across enterprises and regulated industries, helping them securely scale rapid software delivery.

Manchester cyber startup Cytix raises £5m to tackle AI software risk.

Manchester cyber startup Cytix raises £5m to tackle AI software risk. The startup has been backed by Northern Gritstone. Senior Reporter Cytix founders Ben Armstrong and Thomas Ballin. Image credit: Cytix Manchester-based cybersecurity startup Cytix has raised a $7m (£5.1m) Series A funding round to scale its change risk management platform and address security vulnerabilities in AI-driven software development. Cytix develops security software that integrates directly into an enterprise's software development lifecycle (SDLC). The platform continuously monitors, validates, and evidence-logs code changes generated by AI coding assistants and automated workflows, allowing security and compliance teams to govern rapid software releases without slowing down deployment. The fresh capital will be used to scale the company's change risk platform following its general release, targeting enterprise customers and regulated organisations facing strict compliance standards. Cytix distributes its software directly and through managed service partnerships with cybersecurity firm NCC Group and professional services firm KPMG. "Software is changing," said Cytix chief executive Ben Armstrong. "AI-assisted development means change now happens at machine speed. Meanwhile, very few security leaders have control over, or understanding of, those changes from a risk perspective. "Right now, existing tools can tell you what vulnerabilities you have, but can't tell you about the risk. We launched Cytix' change risk management platform to get control of that risk." The investment round was led by Northern Gritstone and included returning investors Auriga Cyber Ventures and NPIF II, managed by PXN Ventures via the British Business Bank's Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II also participated in the round. "The explosion of AI-assisted software development has led to a race to ensure software implementation remains secure," said Duncan Johnson, chief executive of Northern Gritstone. "Cytix's platform aims to help enterprises take a realistic approach, recognising where change carries the most risk whilst allowing businesses to innovate. Northern Gritstone is proud to support another ambitious Manchester-based business in an exciting phase of its growth." Topics. 62% of security leaders say AI Code risk is now urgent.

62% of security leaders say AI Code risk is now urgent. / $7M bet says most companies aren't ready. He comes up with those things or products which are not there yet and are hardly possible to come close to. He covers the latest technology, startups and new product launches and releases. He worked 4 years in a startup company in Austin and later he joined TheTweaks and he is proving himself here with his commendable writing performance. He is also the publisher of a small consumer robotics newsletter. AI Code Is Being Written Faster Than It's Being Watched. And That's What Makes The New $7 Million Series A Round Of Funding From Cytix Significant Northern Gritstone led the investment in the UK based Cytix AI Security Inc with backing from existing investors Auriga Cyber Ventures and NPIF II PXN Equity Finance (through the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II). But what should draw its attention is the percentage from Cytix's own presentation: only 38% of security leaders think their organization is ready for the amount of AI generated code entering their systems. Here is why the latter is the unique thing to focus on and not the former. The main AI Code security issue is not bugs, it's blind spot. The majority of cyber security tools answer one thing: is the code vulnerable or not. Which is good and important. But now when AI coding assistants, agentic development workflow and continuous delivery processes increase the amount of code changes at a speed that nobody could imagine, the main question shifts to another one. Now it is not about "is the code vulnerable". Now it is about "how much business risk it poses". The team at Cytix says the issue is in the gap between vulnerability detection and business risk visibility. Security teams can provide endless scan reports to CISOs. But what they cannot do is say to CISOs "this particular change that we did using AI made our organization more exposed".(Tech.eu) Why it is happening right now. It is not a coincidence. In a relatively short period, AI assisted coding tools have become a standard. And with that came a lot of code changes. Cytix shares the results of research saying 62% of security leaders think risk within their organization is moving from something latent and manageable to something immediate and active. When combined with the 38% "prepared" figure, TheTweaks Media, LLC get a picture: the majority of security leaders already feels the ground under them is shaking, but only few of them feel they are ready to handle it. That is the target market Cytix is going after not "we can detect more bugs" but "we will tell which of your AI driven changes really matter". How does Cytix's platform work? Unlike other scanners, Cytix's platform is not another layer in the development pipeline. The company positions it as a control layer between engineering teams and risk, compliance and security functions that are responsible for what will be shipped. It works in 4 steps: * Continuous monitoring - tracking every single change to the software. * Risk analysis - evaluating the business risk posed by this particular change. * Response determination - deciding what action is needed to be taken if there is a risk. * Verification and evidence - proving the risk is really mitigated and providing a record of the process. That last step is essential. In regulated industries - finance, healthcare and critical infrastructure - ability to provide evidence how the risky change was managed, not just how it was fixed, is the difference between passing an audit and getting a violation. Enterprise first approach, not start-up-first. Cytix is not targeting developer tools market as a whole. And the funds it received during the Series A round are meant to be spent on scaling into large enterprises and regulated sectors. Because in such industries "software change governance" is not a feature, it is a mandatory part of the regulatory framework. To enter such markets faster, Cytix has created go to market partnerships with NCC Group and KPMG, two known names in enterprise security and risk consulting market. This is a smart move from the point of view of Series A company borrowing reputation and distribution from the firms that already have relationships with such companies. TheTweaks verdict. Funding rounds are easy to skip over another cybersecurity start-up, another single digit million, another "AI risk" pitch deck. But when TheTweaks Media, LLC strip away the round size and look at the statistics Cytix presents, TheTweaks Media, LLC see that the company is targeting something that is seriously underserved. The 38% preparedness stat is the number worth keeping in mind, not $7 million. It means that currently most enterprises are flying almost blindly because of the acceleration of the code changes driven by AI tools and next generation of security spending won't be about finding more bugs but about knowing which changes actually matter before they are shipped. Whether Cytix will be able to become a leader in "change risk management" category is an open question. But the issue it is chasing is genuine and it will only grow as AI generated code becomes standard instead of an exception.

UK cybersecurity startup Cytix raises €6 million Series A to tackle AI-driven software change risks.

UK cybersecurity startup Cytix raises €6 million Series A to tackle AI-driven software change risks. August 12, 2026 Cybersecurity startup, Cytix, has announced a €6 million ($7 million) Series A funding round to accelerate the company's mission to tackle the problems created by rapid software change. The round has been led by Northern Gritstone, a UK venture capital and investment firm that funds science and technology startups in the North of England, with participation from existing investors, Auriga Cyber Ventures and NPIF II - PXN Equity Finance, which is managed by PXN Ventures as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II (NPIF II). Speaking about the funding, Ben Armstrong, CEO of Cytix says: "We chose Northern Gritstone for their conviction in investing in DeepTech companies in the North of England with global ambition. "Northern Gritstone and Cytix share the belief that software change is becoming a key risk for organisations and those that build software need a solution that scales with the current pace of development. We're also grateful to the existing investors that have backed us since the early days and increased their commitment because they've seen the thesis play out." Duncan Johnson, CEO of Northern Gritstone, says: "The explosion of AI-assisted software development has led to a race to ensure software implementation remains secure. Cytix's platform aims to help enterprises take a realistic approach, recognising where change carries the most risk whilst allowing businesses to innovate. Northern Gritstone is proud to support another ambitious Manchester-based business in an exciting phase of its growth." The company, founded in 2020, says software change is becoming a distinct risk for every organisation as AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and continuous delivery have outpaced the security models built to govern it. The funding will be used to accelerate the roll out of Cytix's newly launched change risk platform. The platform is designed to address the questions raised by rapid software change: whether security should care about the change, what risk it introduces, and what the required action should be. The Series A round will help Cytix reach customers in enterprise and regulated businesses where change governance is a regulatory obligation. Customers can access the platform either directly with Cytix or through its managed service partnerships with NCC Group and KPMG. "Software is changing," continues Armstrong. "AI-assisted development means change now happens at machine speed. Meanwhile, very few security leaders have control over, or understanding of, those changes from a risk perspective. Right now, existing tools can tell you what vulnerabilities you have, but can't tell you about the risk. We launched Cytix' change risk management platform to get control of that risk."
