Unlike traditional cloud infrastructure, Cloud Engine allows organisations to configure their own subnet, choosing node providers, geographic locations, and security parameters. The platform separates applications from underlying infrastructure, enabling organisations to migrate between cloud providers without downtime. Pakistan is building a national subnet using this architecture, becoming the first country to deploy a decentralised sovereign cloud at nation-state scale. DFINITY launched MULTI/DEX, a fully onchain, multi-chain exchange on Internet Computer (ICP), in Play Mode on 11 July. Simulated trading volume reached $243 million within 48 hours, according to the platform's public dashboard. All balances are dummy assets, with each participant receiving $100,000 in simulated funds to compete on a public leaderboard. The exchange runs entirely on Internet Computer and lists Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and ICP. It combines a central limit order book with an automated market maker and supports spot orders plus margin positions with up to 10x leverage. The trial period will determine whether the community votes to hand the platform to the Network Nervous System for ownerless execution. No date has been set for that decisive vote. The announcement marks one of the most anticipated releases on the $ICP network in recent memory. What "game mode" Actually means. The game mode rollout is not just a marketing term. Alongside the live release, the protocol's source code will be made publicly available for community evaluation. Participants will receive $100,000 in dummy assets to compete in a simulated environment designed to mimic the speed and liquidity of centralized exchanges, effectively stress-testing the architecture under realistic conditions before any real capital is at risk. The aim is to demonstrate that ownerless, on-chain DeFi can match the performance benchmarks that traders typically associate with centralized platforms, a claim that has historically been difficult for decentralized protocols to substantiate. The road to permanent deployment. Once the evaluation phase concludes, MULTI/DEX is slated for submission to ICP's Network Nervous System (NNS). The NNS is the autonomous software that governs the Internet Computer blockchain and manages everything from economics to network structure. The NNS allows anyone in the world to submit and vote on proposals to the network, and if adopted, the proposals are immediately executed automatically, enabling the network to adapt and evolve in real time. Passing the NNS vote would mean MULTI/DEX operates under permanent, autonomous execution with no single owner able to alter or shut it down. The move fits within a broader period of technical momentum for the Internet Computer. ICP sustained over 1,000 transactions per second for a full day as recently as July 3, 2026, showcasing enterprise-grade throughput. ICP DeFi TVL has grown from around $100 million in 2024 to more than $250 million in 2026. ICP needs more builders to compete with Polkadot... Internet Computer Protocol ($ICP) leads Polkadot ($DOT) in transaction volume and revenue but trails sharply in developer count, with 91% fewer builders across its ecosystem, according to Chainspect data. Internet Computer Protocol ($ICP), developed by @dfinity, is outpacing @Polkadot on several key performance metrics. But one gap remains stubbornly wide: the number of developers building on the network. According to @chainspect_app, $ICP has roughly 781 active developers compared to Polkadot's 9,056, a difference of 91.37%. For a protocol that is generating substantially more on-chain activity, the builder shortfall stands out as a significant structural challenge. Revenue and transactions tell a different story. Despite the developer gap, $ICP has recorded 350 times the revenue of $DOT, driven by far higher transaction throughput. ICP has logged approximately 290 billion transactions compared to Polkadot's 45.9 million. That volume advantage is notable given that Polkadot launched roughly a year before ICP's mainnet debut in 2021. The transaction figures point to strong underlying usage. $ICP's deflationary token model, where developers must burn ICP to generate computation credits called Cycles, means higher transaction volume directly tightens circulating supply, giving the network a built-in economic incentive to grow. Can ICP close the builder gap? The DFINITY Foundation is pushing hard on developer recruitment. Initiatives such as the Dynamo and Apex milestones aim to simplify token discovery, streamline DeFi application deployment, and expand the DFINITY grants program and hacker league to attract builders. The 2025 roadmap also introduced the Caffeine platform, which debuted as a tool empowering developers to build self-writing applications using natural language prompts, making Web3 development more accessible and accelerating innovation. On Polkadot's side, the picture is more mixed. Developer activity across the Polkadot ecosystem showed no major changes in Q1 2025. The number of average weekly active core developers ticked up slightly to 122, ending a multi-quarter decline, but average weekly active ecosystem developers fell 5.7% to 421, while weekly ecosystem commits dropped 14.4%. For $ICP, the data presents an unusual combination: a high-throughput, revenue-generating chain that has yet to convert its usage momentum into a deep builder base. Closing that gap may be the single most important factor in determining whether the protocol can sustain and expand its lead over rivals like $DOT in the years ahead.

Engine owners can scale applications by adding nodes or upgrading hardware without touching application code itself. Tokenomics and the broader context. Cloud Engines also carry a direct economic implication for $ICP. Under the proposed model, 80% of Cloud Engine revenue flows to node providers, while the remaining 20% is used to buy back and burn ICP tokens. This shifts the network's economic model toward a deflationary structure, tied directly to real usage rather than token issuance. That burn mechanism is a central pillar of Mission 70, DFINITY's broader 2026 tokenomics roadmap, which targets a reduction in annual ICP inflation from approximately 9.72% to somewhere between 2.92% and 5.42%. The five-year anniversary also coincided with strong on-chain activity. Daily transactions on the Internet Computer exceeded 335 million on May 8, and average transaction fees fell to a 90-day low, according to Chainspect data cited by CryptoNews.
