Published May 14, 2026 7:00 am ET Skandi Connector CLV (Credit: DOF Group) Taihan Cable & Solution has acquired a second cable laying vessel (CLV) from DOF Group to strengthen its offshore wind and subsea power cable installation capabilities amid growing global demand for grid interconnection infrastructure. The South Korean company signed a vessel sale and purchase agreement with DOF for the 10,000-ton-class cable-laying vessel Skandi Connector, which is scheduled for delivery to Korea in August. The vessel joins Taihan's existing offshore wind-dedicated cable-laying vessel PALOS, creating what the company described as a dual-track installation system for offshore wind, HVDC transmission and long-distance power interconnection projects. Taihan said the vessel can load up to 7,000 tonnes of submarine cables and has previously been deployed in 27 projects involving around 1,300 km of cable installation across markets including Europe. The acquisition strengthens its ability to handle both inter-array and export cable installation work in offshore wind developments while supporting expansion into cross-border power grid projects. Taihan said the vessel is equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system and advanced installation equipment including a large carousel and tensioner for

MDL, DOF collaborate on flexible/cable lay programs offshore west africa.

MDL, DOF collaborate on flexible/cable lay programs offshore west africa. Maritime Developments Ltd. (MDL) supplied different equipment spreads for the back-to-back deepwater/shallow-water projects offshore Angola and Congo. Related To: March 26, 2026 The first project involves installation of a 10-inch water injection flexible jumper in 1,700 m of water offshore Angola, and MDL provided its Generation 3 reel drive system (RDS), the HLS-400 horizontal lay system (HLS), a four-track tensioner, and a 55-mt A&R winch and wire package. DOF's Skandi performed the installation and was equipped with a modified MDL deepwater equipment lay spread. Next up was a shallow-water installation offshore Congo of flexible lines and composite submarine cables from 16 reels. For this task, MDL deployed a Generation 3 RDS and four-track tensioner and an HLS-200 package, which it claims freed up more on deck to accommodate the larger number of reels and products required. MDL's Winches & Lifting Solutions division supplied an 55-mt winch and two 15-mt tugger winches. "While the two projects shared core elements of the flexlay spread, the handling requirements differed between the deepwater Angola installation and the shallow-water Congo scope," Scott Manson, the company's project manager, said. "Being able to deploy alternative horizontal lay system configurations, while maintaining continuity in the wider spread and vessel selection, allowed us to adapt efficiently between projects - evident in completing the second scope ahead of schedule." DOF said that offshore operations pertaining to the contract are set to commence between the second and third quarters of 2027 (Q2 and Q3 2027). For this work, the company will utilise the Skandi Implementer and Skandi Skansen vessels for pile installation and mooring line installation, respectively. DOF CEO Mons S. Aase said: "I am pleased to see how DOF is increasingly recognised as global turnkey contractor combining our in-house expertise in subsea and mooring installation with the top-of-the-class assets." MODEC is responsible for the full engineering, procurement, construction and installation scope to develop the FPSO vessel for the Hammerhead project under a contract awarded by ExxonMobil Guyana in September 2025. The award comes just days after ExxonMobil's announcement of a final investment decision on the $6.8bn offshore project, having secured all the necessary regulatory approvals. The Hammerhead FPSO is currently under construction and will operate at a water depth of 1,025m using a SOFEC Spread Mooring system. This vessel is MODEC's second FPSO in Guyana following the construction of the Errea Wittu for ExxonMobil's Uaru project. The FPSO for the Hammerhead project will have a storage capacity of 1,600,000 barrels and is designed to produce 150,000 barrels of oil per day. It will also handle produced water reinjection at a rate of 340,000 barrels of water per day. First oil production from the FPSO is expected in 2029. As the seventh project on the Stabroek block, the Hammerhead project will encompass 18 production and injection wells. ExxonMobil Guyana operates the Stabroek block and holds a 45% interest, while Chevron and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana hold stakes of 30% and 25%, respectively.
