David Lloyd St Neots has confirmed its new state-of-the-art health and wellness facility in The Hub at Wintringham will officially open on Tuesday 6 October 2026. 31 July 2026 The Club has already sparked great interest in the local community, with many residents choosing to join early and secure their membership. As the opening date draws near, there is still time to become a member. The response to its introductory membership offers has been overwhelming, showing just how much enthusiasm there is for the new Club in this area. "With limited memberships available, I encourage anyone thinking about joining to secure their place or book a tour with the team in the Marketing Suite. Our first founding members will also have a chance to enjoy an exclusive first look around the Club before we officially open our doors." Since joining as General Manager, Matt Borer has been busy building local relationships, spending time meeting businesses and community organisations to ensure David Lloyd in St Neots becomes a valued part of the town. From attending the recent Big Listen networking event, to connecting with local schools and sports clubs, Matt has been demonstrating the Club's commitment to the community and laying the foundations for lasting partnerships. David Lloyd St Neots is also proud to sponsor the town's Charity Dragon Boat Race, where a 15-strong David Lloyd Clubs team will be taking to the water alongside competitors in one of the area's most popular fundraising occasions. David Lloyd Clubs rolling out new women's health program featuring Power Plate. July 16, 2026 by Jackie Wicks David Lloyd Clubs is stepping up its commitment to women's health as it continues to explore what fit-for-purpose really looks like for the female population. What does it mean to truly support your members? This is a question that's currently being asked at David Lloyd Clubs, where a vision and ambition to serve every individual across every life stage is driving fresh thinking across the breadth of its offering. A growing focus on women's health is a pivotal part of this agenda - something the industry has historically fallen short in understanding or delivering, says Michelle Dand, David Lloyd Clubs' head of product and programming. But while this industry-wide criticism might once have applied to David Lloyd Clubs, under Dand's guidance things are changing. Across its estate, every club now has a dedicated female health lead, trained to deliver regular seminars on topics ranging from pelvic health and breast support to puberty, menstrual cycle training, menopause and injury resilience. These sessions are designed not only to inform and signpost onwards, but to connect: creating safe spaces where members can come together with others like them, sharing experiences that have historically gone unspoken. Supporting this is a broader push on team education. Recognising that standard industry qualifications offer limited insight into female physiology, David Lloyd Clubs has developed comprehensive internal training across a broad range of female health topics. This includes trailblazing modules on menopause: a deeper, applied level for fitness professionals that focuses on training adaptation, but also a foundational level designed to enhance understanding among all team members. A focus on bone health Programming is evolving in parallel. New concepts such as BATTLEBOX & Buggies and SPIRIT Pre- and Post are designed to support women through and beyond pregnancy, while in-app communities and educational content aim to extend that support beyond the gym floor. There's also an exciting new pilot initiative, launched in partnership with Performance Health Systems, that combines Screen My Bones with Power Plate for a 'screen to solution' bone health programme. For Dand, the preventative aspect is key: "Bone health is something we don't talk about enough, yet it underpins everything as we age. By the time issues are picked up through traditional routes, it can often be too late. We want to provide our members with insight much earlier so they have a chance to act." Currently live in four clubs, the pilot introduces advanced bone health screening via Screen My Bones' REMS technology. The solution then lies in Power Plate, whose whole-body vibration (WBV) technology is proven to stimulate bone formation and positively impact bone density. To ensure its team are fully trained in the science and bone health application of WBV, David Lloyd Clubs has written a skeletal health training module that includes the role of vibration training, upskilling its PTs and wider teams on Power Plate and its benefits for a wide range of different users. There has also been a reinvestment in Power Plate, with the latest pro8 model installed in the pilot clubs, plus three further locations. "Power Plate is one of those pieces of equipment that can support so many different life stages and needs, from skeletal health and active ageing to rehabilitation, performance and recovery," says Dand. "But like anything, it's only as effective as the knowledge behind it. That's why the training piece is so important." A lifelong vision David Lloyd Clubs' bone health initiative is deliberately inclusive: although introduced as part of the women's health initiative, reflecting the higher risk of issues among peri- and post-menopausal women, it is open - and applicable - to all members. It is early days for the pilot, with rollout decisions to be guided by member uptake and engagement. Yet for Dand, success is defined less by immediate scale and more by long-term impact. "Yes, there's a commercial lens - we have to make these things work - but the vision is bigger than that," she explains. "Fundamentally, it's about adding value for its members, making sure Power Plate group has the products, the education and the environment to support every member at every stage of their life. "If we can help people understand their bodies better, train more effectively and stay healthier for longer, that's a win." "It's incredibly exciting to see David Lloyd Clubs leading from the front, launching a joined-up MSK model that combines assessment, education and targeted training," says Iain Murray, managing director UK & Ireland for Performance Health Systems. "This initiative has the potential to genuinely change lives, particularly in the context of women's health."

Update on plans for David Lloyd fitness club in Chippenham.

Update on plans for David Lloyd fitness club in Chippenham. Plans for the new fitness club in Chippenham (Image: David Lloyd Leisure) Find, save and share Public Notices that affect you in the Wiltshire area. An update has been issued on plans for a huge new fitness and leisure club in Wiltshire. In March, David Lloyd Leisure and Baylis Estates submitted plans to build a health, fitness and racquets club at Southpoint Business Park, off the A350 in southern Chippenham. If approved, the large new facility would be built near the £100 million Siemens factory, which has been under construction at the newly emerging business park for some time. The plans include three outdoor tennis courts within an enclosed air dome structure, three outdoor padel courts enclosed within canopies, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an outdoor multi-use court, and an outdoor battle box exercise facility. A spa and external spa garden, a child soft play activity area and lounge facilities, including a business hub and terrace, would also be created. The facility would also boast two sports halls and a 120 to 140 station gym, as well as four studio spaces offering different activities. Wiltshire Council had been expected to determine the planning application in June but this process has been delayed after the council's drainage team submitted a holding objection due to concerns insufficient information had been provided. The council is now waiting for these details to be submitted and plans to agree a new decision date once they have been received. Cllr Mel Jacob, deputy leader of Wiltshire Council, said: "Gazette and Herald is currently waiting for further information from the applicant for planning application ref. PL/2026/01431. "An extension to the target determination date will likely be agreed once this information has been received." The large development would be served by 277 new parking spaces and 30 covered cycle spaces. The applicants said the development would be a major investment in the area and would represent an annual direct economic contribution of £2.7 million. It added that the new facility would create between 80 and 100 full time jobs, alongside a further 50 jobs during the construction phase. The plans have received support locally with multiple residents commenting in favour of the application. A planning statement said: "There is significant support for the proposed development. "Respondents highlighted that the provision of a leisure use facility at the site location is needed. "100 per cent of the respondents support David Lloyd's proposals at Southpoint Business Park, Chippenham, and are 'very supportive' of enhancing the offering of sporting and leisure facilities in Chippenham."

Former David Lloyd senior director andrew Davill and leisure innovator Andy Baker launch Invest in Wellbeing to help hotels unlock new spa membership revenues.

Former David Lloyd senior director andrew Davill and leisure innovator Andy Baker launch Invest in Wellbeing to help hotels unlock new spa membership revenues. Invest in Wellbeing, a new specialist consultancy helping hotels create profitable spa membership businesses from existing wellness facilities has been launched. This new venture is aimed at independent and boutique hotel operators looking to generate sustainable local revenue streams from underutilised pool, sauna and steam room facilities, while responding to growing consumer demand for wellbeing experiences. Drawing on decades of experience in hospitality, health clubs, leisure operations and hotel marketing, the team combines commercial feasibility, operational expertise, public relations and investment support to help hotel owners transform traditional hotel spas into modern membership-led wellness destinations. According to Baker, many hotels continue to view spas through an outdated lens focused primarily on treatment rooms and massage services. "Consumer expectations have changed dramatically, particularly among younger demographics. Today's wellness customer is looking for regular swim, spa and recovery experiences that can be enjoyed as part of a lifestyle membership. Hotels that continue to rely solely on old pools, outdated indoor steam rooms and occasional treatments are missing a significant commercial opportunity." Baker believes many hotels already possess the foundations of a successful membership spa business. "A well-designed swim and spa proposition can attract substantial local membership. A model with 1,200 members paying £110 per month can generate more than £1.5 million in annual recurring revenue, with strong EBITDA potential when operated efficiently. The opportunity lies in maximising existing assets rather than investing in large-scale destination spas." The launch comes at a time when many hotel operators are seeking new ancillary revenue streams amid rising operational costs and increasing competition for overnight guests. At the same time, consumer interest in health, wellbeing and staycation-led leisure experiences continues to grow. Invest in Wellbeing argues that the traditional hotel wellness offer - often consisting of a pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room operating as disconnected amenities - is no longer sufficient to differentiate a property or drive meaningful local engagement. Instead, the consultancy promotes integrated swim-and-spa concepts that create a seamless customer journey for both hotel guests and local members, delivering year-round recurring revenue and stronger asset utilisation. Davill, who spent 26 years in senior leadership roles at David Lloyd Clubs, believes the hotel sector is only beginning to recognise the commercial potential of wellness memberships. "The health club sector has demonstrated for years that recurring membership revenue creates a more resilient and predictable business model. Hotels have an opportunity to apply the same principles to wellness facilities, creating destinations that serve local communities as well as overnight guests." A key part of the Invest in Wellbeing proposition is helping hotels communicate these new concepts to emerging audiences and this is facilitated by marketing and PR which will help operators generate media coverage, create compelling wellness stories and attract new customer segments. As wellness increasingly becomes a lifestyle choice rather than an occasional indulgence, the consultancy believes hotel operators must adapt their marketing strategies to appeal to demographics such as Gen Z and younger Millennials, who place a greater emphasis on physical and mental wellbeing, social experiences and flexible membership models. The Invest in Wellbeing team brings together senior professionals from the health club, hospitality and wellness sectors, with experience of developing, opening and operating premium leisure and spa facilities across the UK. Invest in Wellbeing has developed a portfolio of branded concepts tailored to different sectors, including: * BlueSpa - hotel-based wellness and membership spa concepts * SwimSpa - retail and standalone wellness destinations * GSpa - roadside and travel-sector wellness facilities Services include feasibility studies, concept development, operational consultancy, management support, commercial modelling, public relations strategy, launch campaigns and joint-venture partnerships with hotel owners. Davill added: "Many hotel owners are sitting on valuable wellness assets that are underperforming commercially. Our objective is to help operators understand the market opportunity, develop the right concept, attract new customer groups and create a sustainable business that generates recurring revenue while enhancing the guest experience." The founders believe the next generation of hotel wellness facilities will be judged not by the size of their spa investment, but by their ability to create accessible, repeatable wellbeing experiences that attract both local communities and overnight guests.
