dcbel

dcbel

Residential energy management with EV charging.

Overview

dcbel designs and sells the Ara Home Energy Station, a wall-mounted device that combines a solar inverter, a Level 2 bidirectional EV charger, and a home energy manager. It uses Orchestrate OS, an AI-powered operating system, to optimize when to charge, store, or sell energy by learning household patterns, rates, and weather. The system supports Vehicle-to-Home, solar-to-home power, on-site storage, and can boost EV charging faster than standard chargers. Its goal is to reduce electricity costs, increase energy self-sufficiency, and enable grid services, with expansion across North America and Europe backed by significant funding.

  • August 12, 2026 MassCEC opened free Ara installs for eligible Massachusetts homeowners.
  • April 2, 2026 Québec market entry expands dcbel beyond California into a second province.
  • January 12, 2026 Fidelity added capital, supporting manufacturing expansion and Louisville logistics buildout.

What critics are saying

  • Phase 2 REDWDS funding depends on 2026 performance metrics, risking stalled scale by year-end.
  • California phase 1 covers only 200 homes through December 31, 2026, limiting near-term revenue.
  • If utility programs stop subsidizing hardware, dcbel's expensive installed-base expansion collapses.

What makes dcbel unique

  • dcbel Ara combines bidirectional DC charging, solar inversion, and home backup in one device.
  • March 7, 2025 CGF funding validates dcbel's hardware-plus-software home energy platform.

Massachusetts homeowners get free bidirectional EV chargers through MassCEC V2X pilot

dcbel is participating in the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's V2X Pilot Programme, which fully subsidises the cost of dcbel Ara Home Energy Stations, including installation, for eligible Massachusetts homeowners. The programme allows participants to use their bidirectional electric vehicles to power their homes during high energy rates and blackouts whilst supporting grid resilience. Massachusetts homeowners who own or lease a Nissan Leaf (2018-2025), 2025 Polestar 3, or 2025 Volvo EX90 without existing solar or storage can apply. Applications close on 30 September 2026. Ara enables smart charging during off-peak hours and can save homeowners up to $1,300 annually. During blackouts, it can leverage the EV's battery to power homes for up to 10 days. The pilot programme aims to gather real-world data on V2X system performance and user behaviour.
