E.ON customers save more than £2mn by not using peak time power.

E.ON customers save more than £2mn by not using peak time power. Published on 12 August 2026 The Eco Experts may receive a fee from trusted installers when you request a quote, or a commission when you buy through links on its site. This helps The Eco Experts keep its content independent, well-researched and up to date - Learn more * Customers can save huge amounts by not using electricity at leak times * About half don't know what off-peak means * Running your dishwasher off peak is much cheaper Households with E.ON Next have saved roughly £2.3mn by moving their electricity usage away from 4pm-7pm, however, many more are missing out because they simply don't understand what 'off-peak' means. According to the energy giant, only 50% of customers understand what it means to use electricity 'off-peak', while more than a third (34%) of people don't know they could pay less by using electricity at different times. Energy flexibility is a fantastic weapon against rising bills and price instability. Fellow energy giant Octopus Energy recently described it as one of Britain's "great untapped energy resources". E.ON says its Next Smart Saver tariff helps customers take control over their energy usage by "rewarding those who can shift some electricity consumption away from peak periods". The Next Smart Saver is a 12-month or 24-month fixed term tariff that offers off-peak electricity rates from 5am-4pm and 7pm-2am. While such tariffs are often associated EVs, home batteries and heat pumps, E.ON says customers can save money by making simple changes, such as running washing machines and dishwashers during cheaper, off-peak hours. Steve Davies, director of strategy and commercial at E.ON Next, said: "During the summer months, longer daylight hours often mean people are awake and active at home later, creating more opportunities to shift electricity use into lower-cost off-peak periods. "Customers on Next Smart Saver have already collectively saved £2.3 million by moving electricity use away from peak times, and our new two-year tariff gives households the certainty of fixed off-peak rates until 2028." E.ON Next partners with myenergi on tariff.

E.ON Next partners with myenergi on tariff. E.ON Next has partnered with myenergi to give EV drivers with a compatible zappi charger access to the 8p per kWh off-peak rate on its Next Drive Smart tariff. July 28, 2026 _ James Evison E.ON Next has partnered with myenergi to give EV drivers with a compatible zappi charger access to the 8p per kWh off-peak rate on its Next Drive Smart tariff. Through the E.ON Next app, Next Drive Smart gives households an 8p per kWh rate every night from midnight to 6am. Customers simply plug the car in and set their charging preferences using the E.ON Next Home app, and it takes care of the rest. In a new development, when grid capacity is available, the app can schedule additional charging during the day. At these times, the same 8p per kWh rate applies across the whole home, not just the EV. For a typical driver covering 8,000 miles a year, this could mean savings of up to £435 compared to a standard variable tariff. Both zappi 2.1 and zappi GLO chargers integrate with the Next Drive Smart tariff and are compatible with any make or model of electric vehicle. Customers already on Next Drive Smart with a compatible charger can connect through the E.ON Next Home app to access the savings straight away. New customers can sign up online. EV drivers looking to install a compatible charger can also do so through E.ON Next, which offers an end-to-end journey covering product, installation and flexible payment options, it said. Steve Davies, director of strategy and commercial at E.ON Next, said: "With Next Drive Smart, plugging in at home unlocks cheaper electricity for longer across the home. Our partnership with myenergi means customers with a compatible zappi charger and the E.ON Next app can automatically access off-peak rates at other times when grid capacity is available - with no monitoring, no manual scheduling and no extra effort." Ben Harris, head of energy and mobility at myenergi, said: "We're delighted to be working with E.ON Next. Our integration with the Next Drive Smart tariff means customers now have straightforward access to smarter, cheaper EV charging, without having to think about it." MP hopes scheme could help residents struggling with bills. Will Stone was briefed on the scheme (Image: Will Stone) A fresh start could be on the horizon for families trapped in energy debt. Will Stone, MP for Swindon North, is backing the national expansion of E.ON Next's pilot scheme, and is promoting expansion in Swindon. The programme currently supports eligible households by writing off energy debt and providing upgrades such as insulation, energy-efficient appliances, and renewable technology including solar panels, heat pumps, and batteries. Mr Stone said: "E.ON are looking to expand this project across the country and I'm promoting expansion in Swindon. "Green energy sources including solar, wind, wave and nuclear are a chance to end the boom and bust of energy prices we have seen over the past few years and provide a permanent stable price for households."

Oakfield FC scores green boost with free energy audit from 'Greener Game' programme.

Oakfield FC scores green boost with free energy audit from 'Greener Game' programme. Oakfield FC has taken a major step towards sustainability after receiving a free energy audit through England Football and E.ON Next's Greener Game initiative. The grassroots club is among the first to benefit from the national scheme, which aims to cut carbon emissions, promote greener practices and reduce spiralling energy costs across community football. Oakfield FC has undergone a detailed energy audit carried out by E.ON Next, with a follow-up report set to guide the club on improving efficiency and lowering bills - helping secure its long-term future at the heart of the local community. The Greener Game programme, delivered by England Football in partnership with E.ON Next, will run over the next four years and provide clubs with access to funding for sustainable upgrades, as well as educational resources and energy-saving guidance. Around £1.5 million per year is being invested into grassroots football through the initiative, with between 75 and 100 clubs expected to directly benefit annually. Many more will receive advice and support to improve their energy use. Participating clubs are also provided with an Energy Support Pack, designed to help them implement practical changes to reduce consumption and environmental impact. Ross Hammond, Chairman of Oakfield FC, said: "Island Echo Ltd is delighted to receive this audit as part of the Greener Game programme. Energy bills are a large part of its running costs, so to be able to take steps that help to keep them down is a real boost. "We're also passionate about reducing our carbon footprint, and the investment from The FA and E.ON Next will be a huge boost to our decarbonisation efforts." Phil Woodward, The FA's Head of Clubs and Facilities, added: "Its Greener Game programme is a significant milestone for grassroots football and sustainability. Improving facilities is a key part of its grassroots strategy and its partnership with E.ON Next allows Island Echo Ltd to give clubs like Oakfield FC practical tools and knowledge to embrace energy-efficient practices. "This will not only improve their operations and benefit the environment, but will also enable them to save money." Scott Somerville, E.ON UK's Director of External Affairs, said: "As a business committed to social impact, its objectives are to help communities become more prosperous, more cohesive and more sustainable. "There are few better ways for us to achieve those objectives than supporting grassroots football clubs. In partnership with England Football, we're excited to help teams across England embrace new energy solutions, reduce their bills and cut back on the carbon they use." 0 Comments Waking up to this view? E.ON launches new smart service which could save UK households £18 monthly. Next Optimise connects to wholesale prices and uses smart automation to charge batteries. E.ON Next is launching Next Optimise, a new smart energy service that helps solar and battery households take greater control of their energy use and make better savings on their bills. Article continues below Developed using technology proven in 80 thousand Australian homes, Next Optimise connects to wholesale prices and uses smart automation to charge batteries when prices are low and use or export stored energy when prices rise. Piloted under the name Next Solar Max, early findings showed a boost to the savings made by households with similar solar and battery set ups on a standard variable tariff and SEG. Every household saw some level of bill reduction, with the average customers saving around £18 a month, and some achieving savings close to £100. One home saw a saving of £27 in just one week during a period of sharp wholesale price swings. Modelling also indicates households could save close to £300 per year. Article continues below For customers, this means smarter use of the electricity they generate, store and use, lower bills and less reliance on the grid, without needing to monitor prices or change their daily routine. Chris Norbury, Chief Executive of E.ON UK, said: "It's more important than ever that we help people take control of their energy use and lower their bills. Consumers are showing strong interest in solar and battery as a solution, and this product adds to the savings that can be achieved by generating and storing energy at home. Next Optimise gives customers a simpler, smarter way to manage their home energy, and allows them to keep more of the value it creates. "This is about giving people greater confidence in a changing energy market. By using intelligent automation and clear, market linked price information, we can help more households cut their bills while building a more resilient energy system from the ground up." Through its partnership with Amber Electric, E.ON Next is bringing technology widely used in Australian homes to the UK for the first time, giving households access to real-time market signals normally inaccessible to consumers. Dan Adams, CEO of Amber Electric, said: "Bringing our technology to UK homes with E.ON Next comes at a vital time for bill payers with solar panels, batteries and EVs. "The money-saving potential of our platform has been proven in tens of thousands of households across Australia, consistently reducing energy costs while making better use of renewable energy.
