It promotes and develops the sport from grassroots to elite level, organizing competitions and fixtures such as the Six Nations, the Summer Series, the Rugby World Cup, and the Autumn Nations Series. It supports community rugby with formats for different ages and abilities and uses revenue from ticket sales (notably Twickenham Stadium), broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and merchandise to fund national teams, development programs, and community clubs. Its clients range from individual players and local clubs to professional teams and international bodies, and it engages fans via its site and media coverage.

Champ Rugby secures multi-year title sponsorship deal. 4 hours ago Contract catering company Elior UK has become the title sponsor of Champ Rugby after signing a multi-year partnership deal with the RFU. Founded in 1991, Elior employs 10,000 people and operates in five different countries. It already has a strong presence within rugby, including established partnerships at Scottish Rugby's Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, and with Glasgow Warriors. English rugby's second tier, branded as the 'proving ground', has been on the lookout for a title sponsor since the deal with brewing giants Greene King ended in 2021. A statement released by the RFU said: "Champ Rugby is delighted to announce a multi-year partnership with contract caterer Elior UK, becoming the title sponsor of the Rugby Football Union's (RFU) Tier 2 competition, in a relationship built on shared values, community impact and a commitment to health and wellbeing. "Under the new agreement, the competition will be known as Elior Champ Rugby. This is a significant new chapter for the league and a major step forward in Elior UK's investment in sport, culture and social value. The agreement marks the first title sponsorship for the league in over six years and reflects a shift towards purpose-led collaboration, where commercial success and social impact go hand in hand. "At the centre of the partnership is a strong alignment of purpose. Both organisations place people, wellbeing and opportunity at the centre of what they do - from Champ Rugby's mission to grow competition following and interest, while strengthening clubs, players and communities nationwide, to Elior UK's focus on nutrition, healthier lifestyles and its lifetime of enrichment social-value programme. "Together, Champ Rugby and Elior UK aim to champion the role of food, health and community in supporting performance on the pitch and positive outcomes off it, helping players, fans and local communities thrive. "Champ Rugby is English rugby's biggest supporter, connecting grassroots communities with the professional game and providing a 'Proving Ground' for future stars. It is the second tier of men's rugby and is played by both professional and semi-professional players. Featuring 14 teams across the country, the league delivers strong regional reach, local engagement and a powerful platform for community support." Brian Facer, Head of Champ Rugby, said: "At Champ Rugby, we exist to grow the game, develop people and strengthen communities. Elior UK shares that same commitment to driving opportunity and long-term impact. This is about fuelling futures - investing in healthier lifestyles, stronger clubs and the next generation of players and fans." "This is far more than a sponsorship - it's a partnership built on shared values," said Catherine Roe, chief executive officer at Elior UK. "We're championing nutrition and healthier lifestyles and supporting local communities and future talent. This collaboration enables us to bring our purpose to life in a meaningful and impactful way." Craig Stewart, divisional managing director, stadia at Elior UK added, "Our experience delivering food and hospitality in the stadia sector makes us a natural partner for Champ Rugby. This partnership allows us to apply that expertise in a way that supports clubs, communities and the future of the game." Activation is now rolling out in the final quarter of the season, with the league transitioning to Elior Champ Rugby branding across broadcast, digital and in-stadium environments. Fans of Worcester Warriors will be able to watch the club's first competitive game since its rebirth live and for free, thanks to a new, multi-year broadcasting deal.
Jenny maxwell appointed RPA central player support manager. The Rugby Players Association (RPA) is pleased to announce that former Scotland international Jenny maxwell has been appointed as central player support manager. Jenny's role strengthens the RPA's commitment to the growth and wellbeing of female players across elite rugby. She will play a central role in providing welfare, education and career transition support to women's players, while also contributing to the development and delivery of key player programmes. Jenny began her rugby journey at Leicester Forest and went on to represent Loughborough Lightning and Leicester Tigers in Premiership Women's Rugby. She also earned 40 caps for Scotland at international level and represented Scotland 7s. On joining the organisation, Jenny said: "I'm energised to be starting this new role with the Rugby Players Association, especially at such a pivotal time for the women's game. Having lived experience in the sport, stepping away from playing into a role where I can combine my passion for player wellbeing with my love for the game feels incredibly meaningful. Together with my professional experience, this gives me the insight to support players as they navigate their careers and their lives beyond the pitch. I'm committed to making a positive and lasting impact in this next chapter." Rachael Burford, RPA Head of Women's Rugby, added: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Jenny to our women's rugby department. With a wealth of international and domestic playing experience, Jenny brings an inspiring energy that will undoubtedly strengthen our team. Her passion and expertise will deepen the support we offer our female players, empowering them to shape their journeys with confidence and ambition." Related information. England add coach McGuigan on job share with Sale. Sale coach Byron McGuigan will join England's coaching staff as part of a job share until the end of the season. Former Scotland wing McGuigan, who oversees Sale's defence, will concentrate on the contact area and working with the back three on skills and tactics when on England duty. McGuigan, along with Bath attack coach Lee Blackett, was seconded to England for their successful tour of Argentina and the United States earlier this year. Both McGuigan and Blackett are now part of a rejigged England set-up with Blackett having stepped into the attack role full-time, Richard Wigglesworth switching to defence and Joe El-Abd working with the forwards. "Byron is a knowledgeable and driven coach with a real passion for improving players," said England head coach Steve Borthwick. "He has an excellent understanding of the game, both as an international player and now as a coach. I'm looking forward to the impact he'll make during the autumn." "It was a huge privilege to be involved during the summer, and I'm excited to be back to contribute to the team," said McGuigan. "I'm very grateful to Sale for supporting me in taking on this opportunity alongside my club role. It's a fantastic chance to continue developing as a coach while contributing to both teams." Unlike Morrow, who has influence over medical treatment and selection issues for England's centrally-contracted players, McGuigan coaching role is seen as a development opportunity without any potential conflict of interest. McGuigan retired as a player in 2023 after seven seasons and more than 100 appearances for Sale, and only became their defence coach in November. "Byron is a coach who is so recently removed from playing that he's able to tap into the emotions of the players and understand what they're feeling," said Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson. "He can inspire intent from the players because it's only been a couple of years since he was at the coal face himself. "He inspires the lads to want to put their bodies on the line but layered on to that, his game intelligence, his rugby IQ and his understanding of defensive shape, particularly in the wider channels, is excellent." Born in Namibia and brought up in South Africa, McGuigan won 10 caps for Scotland, who he qualified for through his mother, scoring three Test tries. England take on Australia on 1 November before Tests against Fiji, New Zealand and Argentina complete their autumn campaign. Related topics.
