FAIRTIQ

Mobile ticketing app with fare optimization

Overview

FAIRTIQ provides mobile ticketing for public transportation in Europe by letting riders check in at the start of a trip and check out at the end. The system automatically calculates the lowest fare for the journey, ensuring users pay the cheapest possible price. It operates on a B2B2C model by partnering with public transport operators in Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Denmark, and beyond, integrating with providers' systems to deliver a seamless experience to end users. The customer interaction is through partner transit apps and services, with revenue likely coming from commissions on ticket sales or licensing fees to the transport operators. Compared to traditional ticketing, FAIRTIQ offers automatic fare optimization and digital, app-based tickets that simplify purchasing and reduce friction. Its goal is to expand access to digital fare collection and smart mobility across more European markets while helping operators improve efficiency and customer experience.

Travel more, pay less: public transport operators launch the FAIRTIQ Bonus.

Travel more, pay less: public transport operators launch the FAIRTIQ Bonus. May 04, 2026 Travel more, pay less: public transport operators launch the FAIRTIQ Bonus. Automatic discounts of up to 20 percent for passengers in Lausanne, Neuchâtel and Uri Bern, 4 May 2026 - Travellers who frequently travel on public transport will now pay less - automatically and with no subscription required. To mark its tenth anniversary, FAIRTIQ, together with its first partner operators in Switzerland, is introducing a new discount model: the FAIRTIQ Bonus. Starting today, passengers in the regions of Lausanne (Mobilis), Neuchâtel (Onde Verte) and the canton of Uri will automatically benefit from tiered discounts on their public transport journeys. The FAIRTIQ Bonus replaces the previous 5 percent bonus model with a tiered system offering greater savings potential. Travel more, save automatically The principle is simple: the more FAIRTIQ users travel within a calendar month, the higher the discount applied to further journeys until the end of that same month. Discounts are activated automatically once certain spending thresholds are reached: * 5% discount from CHF 10 spent * 10% discount from CHF 50 spent * 20% discount from CHF 100 spent Only spending on journeys within the respective bonus regions counts towards these thresholds. The discount levels achieved apply exclusively to further journeys within those regions. The bonus resets at the start of each month. As soon as a new level is reached, the app notifies users via push notification. The current bonus status can be viewed at any time in the FAIRTIQ app under Menu > Promotions > FAIRTIQ Bonus Switzerland. With this new model, FAIRTIQ and its public transport partners are primarily addressing occasional and frequent travellers who value flexibility without committing to a subscription. Advancing digital ticketing The launch of the FAIRTIQ Bonus comes just weeks after the introduction of the timetable feature in the FAIRTIQ app. For the company, this step forms part of a broader shift towards more flexible, usage-based pricing models in public transport. 'With the FAIRTIQ Bonus, together with our partners tl, transN and Auto AG Uri, we are demonstrating how fare models can better reflect actual mobility behaviour,' says Gian-Mattia Schucan, Founder and Co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. 'Passengers benefit automatically - with no planning and no commitment.' First regions go live The public transport operators Transports publics lausannois (tl), Transports publics neuchâtelois (transN) and Auto AG Uri are among the first to introduce the FAIRTIQ Bonus. In Lausanne, the model will initially be tested over a three-month period within the Mobilis network. * At tl in Lausanne, the initiative is seen as a step towards modern mobility: 'For us, innovation means making access to mobility as seamless and barrier-free as possible. With the FAIRTIQ Bonus in the Mobilis network, we are offering a fare model that adapts to modern lifestyles and makes regular travel in the Lausanne region more financially attractive,' says Céline Walter, Head of Marketing & Communication. * TransN also highlights the incentive for digital ticketing: 'With this new bonus model, we aim to further strengthen the appeal of digital tickets in the canton of Neuchâtel. It is a fair promise: those who regularly explore our region by bus, train and funicular are automatically rewarded for their loyalty,' explains Yaëlle Frangeul, Head of Marketing. * For Auto AG Uri, simplicity is key: 'As a regionally rooted service provider, we focus on simple solutions. The FAIRTIQ Bonus enables our passengers in the canton of Uri to benefit from attractive discounts without committing to a subscription in advance,' says Diana Mattli, Marketing & Communication Specialist. How the FAIRTIQ Bonus works in detail * Automatic rewards - Discounts are granted automatically once users reach defined spending thresholds within bonus regions during a calendar month. * Tiered discounts - 5% from CHF 10, 10% from CHF 50, and up to 20% once CHF 100 is exceeded. * Regional focus - Discounts are provided by the regional public transport operators tl, transN and Auto AG Uri to strengthen local public transport usage. * Real-time feedback - The FAIRTIQ app immediately informs users when a new discount level is reached. Status can be checked at any time under Menu > Promotions > FAIRTIQ Bonus Switzerland. * Exclusivity - To ensure fair pricing, the FAIRTIQ Bonus cannot be combined with other discount models or regional special offers. 10 years of FAIRTIQ: the timetable now comes to the app.

10 years of FAIRTIQ: the timetable now comes to the app. April 14, 2026 10 years of FAIRTIQ: the timetable now comes to the app. Bern, 14 April 2026. What started as the simplest way to buy tickets in Switzerland is now taking the next step. To mark its tenth anniversary in April 2026, FAIRTIQ is introducing a timetable feature in the app - developed in collaboration with 10 Swiss transport companies - making it easier than ever for users to plan their entire journey in one place. With this step, the Bern-based company is evolving from a ticketing provider into a fully integrated digital travel companion. Journey planning and ticketing from a single source With this new feature, FAIRTIQ is expanding its offering in a targeted manner: users can search for connections directly in the app, check real-time departures and access platform information as well as delay updates. This creates a central point of entry for everyday mobility - from planning through to arrival. In its first version, the timetable feature deliberately focuses on the most important everyday needs of users. Based on user feedback and in close collaboration with public transport partners, it will be gradually enhanced over the coming months. Launching first in the Swiss home market The timetable is initially launched in the Swiss home market: the dense public transport network offers ideal conditions to test and refine new features close to passengers' needs. In doing so, FAIRTIQ underlines its strong connection to the Swiss market despite significant international expansion. "The integration of the timetable is an important step in addressing key customer needs. Over the past ten years, we have focused on making ticket purchasing as simple as possible. Now we are taking the next step by supporting users already at the journey planning stage. Launching this new chapter in our home market highlights our deep roots in the Swiss public transport system. The timetable has been developed in close collaboration with our Swiss partners and will continue to evolve together with them," says Gian-Mattia Schucan, Founder and Co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. The first version of the timetable is now available to all users in Switzerland. It can be found in the app under Menu > Timetable. If you don't see the timetable, please update the app via the App Store or Play Store first. Proven technology, enhanced experience The new timetable feature complements FAIRTIQ's proven mobile pay-as-you-go technology: travellers continue to start their journey with a swipe, without setting a destination in advance. They can use all connections flexibly and end their journey on arrival with a swipe or automatically via Smart Stop. This allows users to focus fully on their journey, while FAIRTIQ takes care of billing in the background. About FAIRTIQ With over 350 million journeys, FAIRTIQ has established itself as the global leader and pioneer in postpaid ticketing and mobile pay-as-you-go (MPAYG) solutions. The platform serves more than one million active monthly users and is currently available in 13 countries: Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. Across 27 regions, the app enhances accessibility and ease-of-use for public transport on a regional level, while providing nationwide coverage in three countries. Leading transport operators and authorities rely on FAIRTIQ's solutions as the company continues its rapid international growth and global user expansion. More information: https://fairtiq.com/en/ About the partner alliance The timetable feature is being developed and tested in close collaboration with an alliance of ten Swiss transport companies: Appenzeller Bahnen (AB), Aargau Verkehr (AVA), Busbetrieb Solothurn und Umgebung (BSU), Regionalverkehr Bern-Solothurn (RBS), Rhätische Bahn (RhB), Regionale Verkehrsbetriebe Baden-Wettingen (RVBW), Transports publics fribourgeois (TPF), Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern (VBL), Verkehrsbetriebe Biel (VB/TPB) and Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe (ZVB). FAIRTIQ and partners gain major recognition at Transport Ticketing Global 2026 for mobile pay-as-you-go excellence.

FAIRTIQ and partners gain major recognition at Transport Ticketing Global 2026 for mobile pay-as-you-go excellence. March 20, 2026 FAIRTIQ and partners gain major recognition at Transport Ticketing Global 2026 for mobile pay-as-you-go excellence. London, United Kingdom - 20.03.2026 - Mobile pay-as-you-go's status as the future of public transport took centre stage as an international coalition of partners, powered by FAIRTIQ technology, secured a series of prestigious accolades at the Transport Ticketing Global 2026 ceremony. FAIRTIQ's innovative approach to seamless multimodal travel was recognised across five key categories, highlighting the company's role as a leading technology partner for national and regional transport authorities: * Winners: Cross-Border Ticketing - Recognised for the revolutionary international "router layer" in the Euregio Maas-Rhine with the ACCEPT Institute, Arriva, and partners. * Winners: Best Commercial Strategy Initiative - Recognised for the successful data-driven approach to growth for the eezy.nrw system with KVB and VRS. * Silver Award: National Integrated Ticketing - Awarded to Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S and FAIRTIQ for the nationwide transition to mobile-first ticketing in Denmark. The Rejsekort app already surpassed 70% market share in the country. * Silver Award: Revenue Protection & Fraud Prevention - Following their victory in last year's Best Commercial strategy award, this year La Région Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée & SNCF Voyageurs, and FAIRTIQ were recognised for their innovative model of rewarding positive traveller behaviour to ensure high compliance while reviewing 100% of journeys for suspicious travel behaviour. * Bronze Award: Ticketing Technology of the Year - Recognition for FAIRTIQ and other suppliers expanding the use of seamless mobile pay-as-you-go technology within the UK market, bypassing the hardware limitations of other technologies. "This level of recognition across so many diverse categories validates a definitive industry shift toward mobile pay-as-you-go technology," said Gian-Mattia Schucan, Founder and Co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. "By removing physical infrastructure barriers and prioritising passenger simplicity, our partners are collectively setting a new standard for effortless travel." He added: "With such a successful performance at this year's Transport Ticketing Awards, I am already looking forward to next year when we will have delivered more initiatives with our partners, when existing schemes are more mature, and when our customers have enjoyed making many millions more journeys using mobile pay-as-you-go technology." A Unified Vision for Seamless Travel The common thread among the night's successes was the use of hardware-free, software-led solutions to solve age-old transit challenges. In Denmark, the national rollout of the Rejsekort app demonstrated that mobile-first ecosystems are the future of national transit. Meanwhile, in the border regions of Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, the ACCEPT Institute and Arriva demonstrated how national fare sovereignty can be preserved while offering passengers a single, transparent price for cross-border journeys. A challenge also faced by many regional schemes that need "Islands and Bridges" connectivity. As these initiatives move from award-winning concepts to global blueprints, the message from Transport Ticketing Global 2026 is clear: the era of the seamless journey is here. Mobile pay-as-you-go enables seamless cross-border travel.

Mobile pay-as-you-go enables seamless cross-border travel. Together with its partners, FAIRTIQ has been nominated for the Transport Ticketing Global Award in the new category 'Cross-Border Ticketing'. FAIRTIQ sees this nomination as more than recognition. It reflects a shared achievement and shows that seamless cross-border travel is no longer limited to long-distance rail. It is now becoming operational reality in local and regional public transport. When networks connect but fares do not Public transport connects regions and economies. Fare systems, however, often stop at national borders. Even in highly digital markets, cross-border journeys can require multiple apps, separate accounts and repeated check-ins and check-outs. This creates friction for passengers and structural complexity for operators and authorities. Revenue allocation, governance and system integration become difficult to align. The Euregio Maas-Rhine region illustrates this challenge clearly. Journeys regularly cross three national borders. While joint ticket offers improved access in the past, they did not deliver full interoperability or a seamless daily experience. As digitalisation raised expectations, complexity remained. The question became clear. How can FAIRTIQ Ltd enable seamless cross-border travel without dismantling established national systems? National fare sovereignty meets international simplicity Many cross-border initiatives introduce new bilateral products or require additional physical infrastructure. Others attempt to extend one national scheme into another country. These approaches can increase operational overhead and complicate governance structures. Mobile pay-as-you-go offers a different path. ACCEPT Institute and a strong consortium of operators and authorities, introduced an international router layer that connects existing national fare schemes end to end. Established pricing back offices remain in place. There is no new overarching ticket product and no additional validators required. This significantly reduces implementation costs and enables a faster time to market. Operators can deliver seamless travel without large-scale infrastructure investments. Passengers use a single app and start and end their journey with one swipe, without booking tickets in advance. Mobile pay-as-you-go generates one postpaid payment for the entire cross-border trip. In the background, each national pricing system calculates its share according to its own rules. The results are combined into one transparent passenger price. The principle is straightforward. Preserve national fare sovereignty for operators and authorities, while delivering international simplicity for passengers. The router of ACCEPT is open for others to join. Roel Testroote, Director of ACCEPT: "We are a not-for-profit: for us, it's all about sharing. Our mission is to simplify public travel: move without borders." From concept to live operation This approach has been live since October 2024 on the Cologne to Aachen to Maastricht to Liège rail corridor, linking Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Passengers travel across Arriva, DB Regio and National Express services with one swipe. Travellers use their trusted app to move across borders and within neighbouring countries. Today, more than 25,000 users generate over 150,000 cross-border journeys annually on this corridor. "Joining forces in a border region pays off: by linking national systems we are breaking down barriers in public transport and making seamless travel easier than ever before for passengers." Dr. Dominik Elsmann Head of Cross-Border Public Transport at AVV Beyond the technical integration, the deployment demonstrates that multinational alignment is achievable. Authorities, operators and technology partners have collaborated within existing governance and revenue frameworks. The result is a fully operational cross-border mobile pay-as-you-go service. "We are proud to have achieved this together, ensuring a seamless experience for travelers. Especially in border regions where different systems and fare structures converge." Chellie Soons Regional Director Arriva Limburg A scalable blueprint for Europe This project is not a pilot searching for validation. It is a blueprint designed for expansion. While it enables seamless cross-border travel in local and regional public transport, its relevance goes further. The same approach can connect non-integrated fare systems within countries and across regions. Wherever tariff schemes meet, an international router layer can enable integrated travel from A to B with a single swipe, without replacing existing systems. The TTG nomination recognises this collective effort by ACCEPT Institute, Arriva, Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV), DB Regio, go.Rheinland, National Express, SNCB, Translink and FAIRTIQ, to rethink what cross-border ticketing can look like. Driving ridership with mobile pay-as-you-go: a data-driven strategy in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Driving ridership with mobile pay-as-you-go: a data-driven strategy in North Rhine-Westphalia. Together with its partners, FAIRTIQ is proud to be nominated for the Transport Ticketing Global Award in the category 'Best Commercial Strategy Initiative'. The nomination recognises the collaboration between Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe (KVB), Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and FAIRTIQ to grow ridership through the digital fare system eezy.nrw. At the heart of the initiative is a simple idea. If ticketing becomes easier to use, more people will use public transport. When ticketing complexity discourages travel In North Rhine-Westphalia, as in most parts of Germany, the traditional fare system includes multiple price levels and ticket types. For occasional travellers, understanding which ticket to choose for a specific journey can quickly become confusing. In addition, traditional fare systems often create price jumps at the boundaries between fare zones. To address this challenge, transport authorities and operators introduced eezy.nrw, an innovative digital fare system based on mobile pay-as-you-go (MPAYG) and a distance-based beeline pricing model. Passengers simply start and end their journey with one swipe in the app and the system calculates the correct fare automatically based on the distance travelled, to the exact kilometre. This removes the need to select the right ticket in advance and makes public transport easier to access. "Originally launched as a pilot project by VRS, KVB and FAIRTIQ, eezy.nrw has become a success story with role-model potential for ticketing solutions across Germany. Today, eezy.nrw is an integral part of the public transport landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia and continues to achieve record after record. Winning the TTG Award would be a wonderful recognition of the joint efforts of VRS, KVB and FAIRTIQ. For the upcoming award ceremony in London, I am keeping my fingers crossed for everyone who has been and continues to be involved in this project." Michael Vogel Managing Director, Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) Turning simplicity into growth Introducing a new ticketing model is only the first step. Encouraging passengers to try it requires a strong commercial strategy. KVB and VRS implemented a campaign-based approach designed to attract new users and encourage existing users to travel more often. Campaigns were linked to major local events and seasonal moments, from Black Friday shopping to Cologne's famous Carnival celebrations. Promotions included free travel days, two-for-one offers and targeted discounts. Each campaign was supported by in-person activations and digital marketing. This test-and-learn approach allowed the partners to identify which incentives resonated most with passengers. Measurable impact and a positive ROI The results demonstrate the potential of combining mobile pay-as-you-go with a data-driven commercial strategy. By January 2026, the number of active users across the apps had doubled year on year. eezy.nrw now accounts for seven percent of revenue from non-season ticket journeys in North Rhine-Westphalia. One campaign during Carnival week generated more than 3,000 activations and over 1,500 new users. More than 80 percent of them continued using the app months later, proving that once passengers try the system, they tend to stay. A blueprint for future growth For KVB, VRS and FAIRTIQ, the lesson is clear. Digital ticketing alone does not drive adoption. Smart commercial strategies do. By combining mobile pay-as-you-go with targeted campaigns and data insights, public transport providers can turn occasional travellers into regular users. Because growing ridership often starts with one simple step. Making it easier for people to start their journey. Meet FAIRTIQ at Transport Ticketing Global Don't miss out!
