The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan collects and distributes food through a network of more than 700 partner agencies, schools, and community organizations to feed people in need. Donated food is gathered, inspected, sorted, and sent to partner agencies such as churches, soup kitchens, and pantries to be distributed to needy clients at no charge, with programs like Backpack, School Pantry, and Summer Feeding reaching children and families. It differs from others by its statewide scale, large partner network, targeted programs for children and families, no-fee food distribution, and a strong volunteer program at its Hunger Solution Center. Its goal is to feed as many people as possible in Eastern Michigan by maximizing donations and partnerships, reaching hundreds of thousands of families each year.
