New Youth Access and Wellbeing Through Art initiative launches at the Aga Khan Museum in partnership with GreenShield. * Business Wire * Mar 17, 2026 TORONTO-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Mar 17, 2026- The Aga Khan Museum is pleased to announce the launch of Youth Access and Wellbeing Through Art in partnership with GreenShield, a new initiative designed to give youth free access to art, space and other wellbeing resources. Slow Looking Experience at the Aga Khan Museum. Credit: Raheel Azim "At GreenShield, we know that improving youth mental health requires working alongside communities to remove barriers and support wellbeing in practical, accessible ways," said Mandy Mail, Executive Vice President, Head of GreenShield Cares. "Our partnership with the Aga Khan Museum reflects the importance of supporting initiatives that create inclusive spaces, foster connection, and contribute to mental health and wellbeing, particularly for youth who may otherwise face barriers to access." The need to improve youth mental health is urgent and evident, and arts institutions can play a meaningful role. According to the Government of Canada, young adults aged 15 to 24 are most susceptible to mental health issues. A Harvard University research project found that "Slow looking" in museum settings can increase observational skills, reflective thinking and emotional awareness. Led by this shared commitment to supporting youth mental health and wellness, the Aga Khan Museum and GreenShield are joining forces to create space for reflection and self-care for youth through art without financial barriers. GreenShield, Canada's only national non-profit health care and insurance organization, is dedicated to improving health equity for underserved populations, with youth mental health as a key area of focus. Through GreenShield Cares, GreenShield works closely with community partners to help remove barriers to care and apply its health expertise in ways that improve access, wellbeing, and outcomes for young people. The initiative also introduces the Slow Looking Experience, a self-guided journey that invites visitors of all ages to spend extended, intentional time with selected artworks in the galleries. By slowing down and giving focused attention to fewer works, participants are encouraged to notice details, reflect more deeply, and form personal connections with art. This practice supports stress reduction, cultivates mindfulness, and fosters a sense of calm in an increasingly fast-paced world. "Art has the transformative power to strengthen youth mental health and foster a sense of belonging. Providing free admission is a critical step in helping youth engage with the Museum's collections, exhibitions, and programs," said Dr. Sascha Priewe, Director of Collections and Public Programs at the Aga Khan Museum. "Through special programming developed for this initiative, we invite young visitors to explore and engage with art in ways that nurture their curiosity and sense of community. We are grateful to GreenShield for their collaboration, which allows us to create experiences that are not just about seeing art, but feeling and immersing themselves in it in a meditative way." To mark the launch throughout the month of March, the Museum is presenting enhanced Sunday programming designed to support moments of pause, reflection, and creative exploration. These special Sunday experiences, which include talks and creative workshops, will invite all visitors to engage with art in ways that nurture wellbeing and community, reinforcing the Museum's role as a space of belonging and shared exploration. This partnership builds on GreenShield's broader Youth Mental Health initiative, launched in 2025, which was developed alongside youth and community partners to respond to the growing mental health needs of young people across Canada. The initiative introduced two foundational elements: the Youth Mental Health Data Hub, a publicly accessible dashboard that provides a national snapshot of youth mental health, and GreenShield's Youth Mental Health Ecosystem, a centralized digital platform offering timely, culturally informed supports. To date, more than 100,000 youth have accessed free, culturally appropriate mental health services and resources through these efforts. About the Aga Khan Museum The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada, has been established and developed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), which is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Through permanent and temporary exhibitions, educational activities and performing arts, the Museum's mission is to spark wonder, curiosity, and understanding of Muslim cultures and their connection with other cultures through the arts. Designed by architect Fumihiko Maki, the Museum shares a 6.8-hectare site with Toronto's Ismaili Centre, which was designed by architect Charles Correa. The surrounding landscaped park was designed by landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic. Canadian non-profit insurer expands mental health platform with new deal

Canadian non-profit insurer expands mental health platform with new deal. GreenShield folds EFAP, SAP, and digital therapy into expanded mental health offering GreenShield is expanding its role as a mental health payer-provider by buying Kii Health's Canadian mental health services segment, adding EFAP, SAP, and digital therapy to its national platform for plan sponsors. The acquisition covers Kii Health's Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), Student Assistance Program (SAP), CBT Associates, and Therapist Assisted Internet-Delivered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TAiCBT) services, including the MindBeacon digital therapy platform. GreenShield says the move strengthens GreenShield Health's mental health capabilities and extends its footprint across Canada, with notable growth in Western Canada and Quebec. Zahid Salman, president and CEO of GreenShield, called the acquisition "an important step" in the company's "integrated coverage and care strategy." He said it will expand GreenShield's mental health services, support new care delivery models and help provide more connected support to Canadians nationwide. GreenShield is positioning the deal as a response to growing demand for mental health support. One in three Canadians would leave their job for better benefits, and two in three have faced a mental health challenge in the past year. By combining GreenShield's coverage and care capabilities with Kii Health's mental health offerings, the organization aims to increase access to integrated support at work, school and at home. The acquisition also targets youth and post-secondary students. As a non-profit, GreenShield reinvests its excess earnings and redeploys its service capabilities to improve health outcomes for underserved communities, with youth mental health identified as a key priority. Adding Kii Health's Student Assistance Program will feed into GreenShield's Youth Mental Health Ecosystem by deepening clinical expertise, extending reach across post-secondary campuses, and enabling earlier intervention and more seamless navigation for students. All acquired services will be integrated into GreenShield+, the organization's digital health and benefits platform, to streamline navigation across benefits, therapy and support services, create a unified GreenShield-branded experience, and improve continuity of care for members and clients. Joe Blomeley, executive vice president and head of GreenShield Health, said integrating Kii Health's capabilities and practitioner network with GreenShield's payer-provider platform will create "a stronger, more connected pathway to care." Karen Adams, CEO of Kii Health, said the team's work will continue within GreenShield and that moving its EFAP and TAiCBT services under GreenShield will support clients, practitioners and partners while expanding access to services.

An easier way to find mental health help for young people: The Youth Mental Health Ecosystem

An easier way to find mental health help for young people: the Youth Mental Health Ecosystem. GreenShield launches a new centralized platform to make finding youth mental health support more accessible. Why it matters. A centralized mental health support platform can make it easier for youth to find proper support. It also opens opportunities for organizations to collaborate and extend their reach. Future of Good has agreed not to include Jessie's last name due to the sensitive subject matter. This article was produced in partnership with GreenShield. You can read its full editorial standards here. Jessie's high school shifted to remote learning during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, and it made so many things in her life worse. At the tender age of 15, the change took a toll on her mental wellbeing and she quickly realized she needed professional support. "I felt very disconnected from the things that I used to do that made me feel very happy and connected," Jessie remembers. But five years ago, finding support proved to be overwhelming. More than 1 million youth in Canada need mental health support, yet nearly 60 per cent are not getting it, according to data from Mental Health Research Canada. "The first thing I looked up is, where can I learn healthy strategies? And I just got a bunch of advertisements for paid services which were hundreds of dollars," she said. "I was like, 'There's no way this is something I can do for myself right now.'" Jessie's experience mirrors what many young people face, with long wait times, high costs and confusing pathways making it difficult to get support. Those challenges inspired GreenShield, Canada's only national non-profit healthcare and insurance organization, to rethink how young people access care. The organization has unveiled its new pilot Youth Mental Health Ecosystem, a centralized digital platform that provides youth with timely, culturally relevant mental health support. "Delivering care that respects cultural differences isn't just a best practice - it's essential to achieving equitable health outcomes. By tailoring services to diverse needs, we can ensure that every individual feels understood and supported on their health journey," said Sabrina Ladha, vice president of GreenShield Cares. The Ecosystem is designed to make access easier and uses lived experiences like Jessie's to help shape the platform. "We built the ecosystem over the past year by consulting with community organizations, conducting roundtables with youth nationwide, and analyzing usage data from our post-secondary plan members to ensure our ecosystem meets youth where they are and delivers real impact," said Ladha. Only 19 per cent of young people received mental health support last year, according to GreenShield. Among those who tried, 45 per cent ran into long wait times, 41 per cent said it was hard to find the right kind of support, and more than 50 per cent said cost was a barrier. Centralized support services. GreenShield's Ecosystem provides one platform for youth to access care and connect directly with resources designed to address those barriers. As well as using lived experiences to create the platform, GreenShield also partnered with other leading mental health organizations that provide frontline support. This integrated approach is built on a model that Jen Crowe has been developing as the Executive Director of Choices for Youth. "I think that it's a mistake when we look at these as siloed issues rather than issues that are complementary and can perpetuate each other," said Crowe, the executive director. The organization is a non-profit that serves homeless and at-risk youth in St. John's, Nfld. The success of their model allowed Choices for Youth to launch Becket, a province-wide, comprehensive integrated youth services hub. "Ultimately, we're treating the root cause of what a young person is experiencing rather than just treating the symptom itself," said Crowe. Their centralized platform aligns with GreenShield's goal of breaking down barriers, which is why Crowe's organization now offers its programs through the Youth Mental Health Ecosystem, helping ensure young people can access the care they need. "You can address so many of those challenges just with one visit instead of having to spend so much time going from so many different hub sites to so many different service providers in order to get your needs met," said Crowe. "We know that that model of fragmentation simply doesn't work." Change for the future. GreenShield's Youth Mental Health Ecosystem is something Jessie said could have helped her when she was 15. In addition to piloting the ecosystem, GreenShield offers free mental health support, including counselling and a free one-year digital cognitive behavioural therapy subscription to all Canadians aged 15 to 29 who are a part of equity-seeking groups. The organization offers a personalized therapist matching tool to let users choose from more than 50 options, including race, gender and sexuality in as little as 24 hours. "The session would have helped me to kind of access new resources and provide me a more direct path of what my next steps could be," said Jessie. "It would have helped me to be more motivated when going on this journey because it took me many tries to kind of reach the point where I'm at now. It wasn't just a clear path."
