Shurvinton was managing director of partnerships and ventures for Greene King. He joins GDK on 1 September as its new CEO, succeeding Simon Wallis, who is stepping down from the role. GDK's new CEO has also served as chief customer officer for Pizza Hut UK & Europe. Greene King lines up 65 pubs for sale under Project Portico. Greene King has put around 65 pubs on the market as part of a fresh phase of the estate review it announced earlier this year, industry publication Propel first reported. The pubs, which are predominantly "wet-led" venues focused on drinks sales rather than food, are being brought to market collectively under the internal codename Project Portico. Sapient Corporate Finance is understood to be advising the brewer and pub operator on the disposal. According to reports, prospective buyers will have the option to acquire the entire portfolio in one transaction, take on a smaller cluster of sites, or bid for individual pubs. Greene King has not published a list of the pubs involved, and the company has stressed that no closures have been announced as a result of the process - meaning any venues that change hands are expected to continue trading under new ownership. A Greene King spokesperson said: "As part of our pub estate strategy announced earlier this year, we identified a number of pubs for potential sale in the medium term. As a result, we are reviewing each pub to determine the most appropriate route to market, which may involve an open sales process or a targeted off-market approach. In either case, prospective purchasers may seek to acquire individual or multiple sites." Part of a wider estate strategy The Project Portico listing builds on plans Greene King set out in March, when the group identified around 300 managed pubs it judged were no longer suited to their current operating model. Roughly half of those sites are being transitioned into leased, tenanted or franchised venues within the company's Pub Partners network, while the remainder - around 150 pubs - were earmarked for potential sale over the medium term. Greene King has said proceeds from any completed sales will be reinvested into strengthening its core managed estate rather than extracted from the business. The group has already carried out smaller disposals during 2026 ahead of the latest listing. In April, it appointed Savills to market 13 freehold pubs and hotels comprising some 420 bedrooms between them, including properties such as Ye Olde Talbot in Worcester, the Cromwell Lodge Hotel in Banbury and the Bear Hotel in Havant. A further ten freehold managed pubs were brought to market through agent AG&G in May, with a combined asking price of roughly £9.4 million for eight of the sites and offers invited for the remaining two. Trading performance The disposal programme comes despite a period of improved trading for the group. Greene King's most recent financial results showed revenue up 3.6% year on year to £2.539 billion, with adjusted operating profit rising 9.8% to £217.4 million. Founded in 1799, Greene King operates a total estate of around 2,500 pubs, including approximately 1,000 leased, tenanted and franchised sites, making it one of the UK's largest pub operators.
Greene King reviews pubs for potential sale, names new CTO. The pub group has raised the For Sale on 65 pubs, which could be sold individually or alongside multiple sites Greene King has reportedly identified 65 pubs which it is seeking to offload as part of its previously announced strategy to reduce its 2,600-strong pub estate by up to 150 outposts. After outlining its plan to reduce its pub estate in March, the pub group is understood to have identified 65 outlets for potential sale, either as part of a package or as individual sites. A Greene King spokesperson said: "As part of its pub estate strategy announced earlier this year, Hotel Cateys identified a number of pubs for potential sale in the medium term. "As a result, we are reviewing each pub to determine the most appropriate route to market, which may involve an open sales process or a targeted off-market approach. In either case, prospective purchasers may seek to acquire individual or multiple sites." The move comes after Greene King identified 300 pubs in its current portfolio which no longer aligned with its property strategy. The pub group will convert around half of these locations to leased and tenanted or franchise venues, with the remainder set to be sold in the medium term. This marks the first foray into Greene King offloading pubs since its strategy shake-up was first announced. The move comes alongside the hospitality firm's appointment of Andrew Plunkett, formerly of Easyjet, as its new chief data and technology officer. In a LinkedIn post about his new role, Plunkett said: "Greene King runs on the hard work and pride of people who care deeply about their pubs and their guests. That's something worth protecting: it's part of the fabric of British life, and it deserves to be treated that way. "At the same time, I'm excited about what's possible. There's real potential to use technology, data and AI to strengthen every part of the business, making pubs easier to run, decisions better informed and guest experiences more personal, all while staying true to what makes Greene King, Greene King."

Greene King wins the pub aid Corporate Community Hero award at the all-parliamentary Beer Group awards. Greene King has won the PubAid Corporate Community Hero award at the prestigious All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group's annual awards dinner in London on Wednesday 17 June. A number of awards were handed out to brewers, publicans and politicians for their work in support of the industry over the past year, including naming its Corporate Community Hero. The award recognises companies whose pubs and breweries have gone above and beyond to support the four pillars of charity, community, sustainability and grassroots sport over the past year and was judged by PubAid. Judges praised Greene King for the scale of its social impact, which included reaching £25m of funds raised for Macmillan Cancer Support since 2012 and continuing the rollout of its Releasing Potential programme after recruiting more than 360 prison leavers into its pubs and working in partnership with the charity Only A Pavement Away. It also recognised other initiatives including Greene King's Proud to Pitch In initiative raising £1m in funds for grassroots sports clubs and its Tub2Pub recycling scheme, which saw it collect 330,000 plastic confectionary tubs in January and February 2026 that would otherwise have gone to landfill. Chief executive Nick Mackenzie collected the award from Beer Group chair Tonia Antoniazzi MP, and celebrated the award win with Dr Peter Princely, MP for Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket. Nick said: "I'm extremely proud that Beer Guild has been recognised in this way by the Beer Group. Its pubs and teams all work really hard to be at the centre of their communities. "A lot of work goes into establishing these programmes and building strong partnerships with charity and community groups, but it's its teams in its pubs and breweries who absolutely bring them to life. "To have the scale of our social impact acknowledged is very humbling and this award is testimony to the hard work of so many people out there and the enduring social value that pubs bring to communities." Commenting on the achievement, PubAid Co-Founder, Des O'Flanagan, said: "The judges were particularly impressed by the way Greene King has embedded community impact throughout its business. Its entry demonstrated that social value is not delivered through a single initiative, but through a long-term commitment to supporting people, places and communities across the UK. The breadth of activity, combined with clear evidence of sustained impact, made Greene King a standout winner."
