AI revenue is surging at Indian IT firms, but how much is adding to growth?

AI revenue is surging at Indian IT firms, but how much is adding to growth? TCS, HCLTech and other IT firms are reporting sharp growth in AI businesses, but modest overall revenue growth raises questions over whether AI is generating fresh demand or cannibalising traditional IT services. * Updated Oct 16, 2026 7:13 PM IST According to industry experts, the real test is not merely how quickly AI revenue is growing, but whether it is contributing to the overall growth of IT services companies. India's largest IT services companies are reporting rapid growth in artificial intelligence (AI) revenue, but the numbers raise a more fundamental question for investors: how much of this business is translating into incremental industry growth rather than replacing revenue from traditional technology services? Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which reported its September-quarter results earlier this month, said its annualised AI revenue had crossed $3.1 billion in the second quarter of FY27, up 19.2% sequentially and accounting for more than 10% of revenue. HCLTech, meanwhile, reported annualised advanced AI revenue of $876 million, up 72% year-on-year in constant currency.

HCLTech signs Anthropic partnership for enterprise AI.

HCLTech signs Anthropic partnership for enterprise AI. Wed, 14th Oct 2026 (Today) HCLTech has signed a Global Premier Partnership with Anthropic focused on the use of Agentic AI in large enterprises. Under the agreement, HCLTech will create a dedicated Anthropic Business Unit and a Centre of Excellence, while HCLSoftware will add Anthropic's Claude and Claude Code to selected software products. The partnership targets enterprise customers seeking broader use of AI systems with controls for safety, cybersecurity and governance. HCLTech also plans to integrate Anthropic's technology into its AI Force platform for software engineering and support work. HCLTech's services teams will develop industry offerings based on Claude, Cowork and Claude Code. The new business unit and center will also provide secure sandbox environments for enterprise deployments of Claude through FDEs. The deal also covers internal and organisational changes for clients adopting AI-led tools. HCLTech will help customers introduce AI-native engineering practices, train staff and build the structures needed to run Agentic AI systems across large organisations. At its software arm, HCLSoftware has become an Anthropic ISV partner. This will allow it to embed Claude features and use advanced models in selected products spanning cybersecurity, automation, business process software and application development. Named products include HCL BigFix and HCL AppScan, and the partnership will also support Actian AI Analyst. HCLTech added that Claude and Claude Code will be used in AI Force for tasks including IT support, code remediation and digital employee services. These workflows will include policy guardrails, exception handling and human oversight for higher-impact changes. The controls reflect a broader push by technology suppliers to reassure large companies that AI systems can be deployed in sensitive operational environments without losing managerial oversight. Enterprise push The tie-up gives HCLTech another route into a market where large service providers and software vendors are competing to package generative and agent-based AI tools for corporate use. Demand has increasingly shifted from trials and pilot projects towards integration with existing systems, internal controls and workforce processes. For Anthropic, the agreement expands its reach through a global services company with a large installed base in sectors including banking, healthcare, telecoms and manufacturing. HCLTech said it has more than 223,000 employees across 60 countries and reported revenue of USD $14.8 billion for the 12 months to June 2026. The partnership also reflects a wider pattern in the AI market: model developers are seeking distribution through consulting groups and software companies, while those partners are looking to differentiate themselves by combining models with implementation services, governance processes and product integration. One practical feature of the agreement is the split between services and software. HCLTech's services teams will handle deployments and customer-facing solutions, while HCLSoftware will build Anthropic's tools into products used by enterprise customers in operations, security and development workflows. That structure may help HCLTech offer customers a broader package than a pure consulting arrangement. By combining implementation work with embedded software products, the group can reach both clients seeking bespoke deployments and those looking for packaged tools within existing enterprise software estates. Daniela Amodei, Co-founder and President, Anthropic, said: "AI can only be as useful as it is trustworthy, and we build Claude to give companies the confidence to bring it into their most sensitive and valuable work. HCLTech manages those kinds of systems for banks, hospitals, telecom companies and manufacturers, and we're excited to partner with them as they integrate Claude and Claude Code. This partnership - and our broader commitment to advancing capability and safety together - is how AI will change the way entire industries run for the better." The arrangement builds on HCLTech's existing work across engineering, data, cloud and software, with the goal of helping clients move from AI experimentation to wider enterprise deployment. C Vijayakumar, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, HCLTech, said: "Few technology companies combine the scale of a global systems integrator with the product depth of an ISV. That gives us a rare advantage to securely engineer and deploy Agentic AI at scale and deliver the business outcomes that matter most to our clients. Our partnership with Anthropic further strengthens our capabilities to achieve the same."

HCLTech signs Anthropic partnership to bring Claude into enterprise systems.

HCLTech signs Anthropic partnership to bring Claude into enterprise systems. The agreement combines deployment services, workforce training and planned software integrations, with human oversight promised for high-impact changes. The audio brief. About 1:13 Read transcript Story brief. 3 key points The October 12, 2026 agreement gives HCLTech a services-and-software route to take Anthropic's Claude models into enterprise workflows: HCLTech will support deployments and training, while its software business plans integrations into selected products. A dedicated business unit and Center of Excellence, plus planned safeguards for high-impact AI Force workflows, make implementation and oversight part of the offer. The integrations and controls are announced plans, not evidence of deployment results; their execution will show whether the partnership can turn Claude access into governed enterprise use. * 01 HCLTech says it employs more than 223,000 people across 60 countries, giving the partnership a large services and deployment footprint. * 02 HCLSoftware plans Claude integrations for HCL BigFix and HCL AppScan, and will enable Actian AI analyst. * 03 AI Force will integrate Claude and Claude Code for IT support, code remediation and digital employee services, with guardrails and human oversight for high-impact changes. Claude is set to enter more enterprise software and IT workflows through HCLTech, which will build a dedicated team to support deployments. The technology services company signed a global partnership with Anthropic on October 12, 2026, pairing planned product integrations with deployment support, workforce training and controls for consequential AI-driven changes. The agreement, called a Global Premier Partnership, puts safety, cybersecurity and governance at the center of the companies' enterprise pitch. HCLTech's services teams will develop industry offerings using Claude, Cowork and Claude Code. Its software business will take a different route: embedding Anthropic capabilities into selected products. A dedicated team for deployment and training. HCLTech will establish a dedicated Anthropic business unit and Center of Excellence to develop AI agents and support enterprise Claude deployments. The planned center will provide secure sandbox environments - separate spaces for deployment work - as part of that effort. This gives the partnership an organizational commitment alongside its software integration plans. The services remit extends beyond installing tools. HCLTech says it will help clients adopt AI-native engineering practices, train their workforces and develop the organizational capabilities needed to operate AI agents safely at scale. Those activities sit within the same partnership as the planned product integrations, rather than a separate training announcement. HCLTech brings a substantial services footprint to that work. The company says it employs more than 223,000 people across 60 countries. Anthropic president and co-founder Daniela Amodei framed the agreement around HCLTech's role managing sensitive systems for banks, hospitals, telecom companies and manufacturers. AI can only be as useful as it is trustworthy, and we build Claude to give companies the confidence to bring it into their most sensitive and valuable work. HCLTech manages those kinds of systems for banks, hospitals, telecom companies and manufacturers, and we're excited to partner with them as they integrate Claude and Claude Code. This partnership - and our broader commitment to advancing capability and safety together - is how AI will change the way entire industries run for the better, Daniela Amodei, co-founder and president of Anthropic Claude inside HCLSoftware and AI Force. HCLSoftware becomes an Anthropic independent software vendor partner, meaning it will embed Claude capabilities into software it supplies. It will also have access to advanced models for those integrations. The named products and workflows span security, automation, business processes and application development, rather than a single standalone Claude application. * HCL BigFix and HCL AppScan are among the selected enterprise products slated for Claude integrations. * HCLSoftware also plans to enable Actian AI analyst as part of the software partnership. * AI Force, HCLTech's agent-based software engineering platform, will integrate Claude and Claude Code for IT support, code remediation and digital employee services. For AI Force, HCLTech says the workflows will include policy guardrails, exception handling and human oversight for high-impact changes. That describes several layers of control: rules governing the work, handling for exceptions and people overseeing consequential changes. The safeguards are part of the announced integration design, not measured evidence of deployment outcomes.
