HappyFresh

Asset-light on-demand grocery delivery platform

Overview

HappyFresh is an app-based, on-demand grocery delivery service in Southeast Asia that partners with existing supermarkets and specialty retailers to fulfill online orders. It uses a two-step fulfillment model: customers place orders through a mobile app or website, then trained part-time personal shoppers pick items in-store and professional couriers deliver them to customers’ doors. The platform earns money from delivery fees, commissions from partner stores for listings and ads, and targeted advertising on the app. Unlike many competitors, HappyFresh operates without owning its own stores and relies on an asset-light network of partners and workers to scale quickly. After expanding to multiple countries, it narrowed focus back to Indonesia to address economic pressures. The company’s goal is to make grocery shopping convenient for busy urban residents by providing a reliable, timely, and broad in-store selection through a streamlined digital platform.
