RuneScape: Dragonwilds Dowdun Reach update adds new region, a foreboding castle, Mythril weapons & more. Today's Dowdun Reach update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds adds a new region, new gameplay, raised skill caps, and a dark, tricky, and cursed fortress that you'll have to prepare for. The team says the new region emphasizes exploration and combat, while offering new options, new foes, and even a new resource. The castle itself is blocking the path between Fellhollow and the Umbral Sands. You can't miss it. It's big, it's dark, and it's pretty foreboding. An ancient order of knights cursed by demonic forces is within, and there's plenty of strange and dark magical energy about. The Black Knight Titan rules and he's not alone, as his forces will also be around to welcome you. In the castle, you'll find lesser blue dragons, and a lot more to discover. Mythril has been added as a new resource, with veins around throughout the fortress. Explore, mine some of those veins to be able to craft gear in the newest tier. There are eight possible Mythril weapons you can make, like a greatsword and greataxe. Use the blue dragon hides as well, to create new armor pieces. Or the mystic robes, which debut in this game with this new update. The update raises the skill cap across all skills 299, even though not all skills have Skilling content that reaches that level yet. Once the relevant content has been added, anything you have earned by Skilling up will be retroactively awarded to you, so if you do stuff now you won't lose any of your progress. With Dowdun Reach, Jagex has partnered with Shockbyte to provide dedicated private server options, with special rates. If you do rent one of these servers, they'll support six players, not for, so you can co-op even harder. In April, RuneScape: Dragonwilds marks one year in Early Access and the team promises an additional update that will add the Fishing skill (and fish), new quests, decorations, spells, and more.
RuneScape 3 Combat Modernisation: Beta Update 2 refines style identities. Jagex has launched the second major update for the RuneScape 3 Combat Modernisation Beta, focusing heavily on player feedback to refine style cohesion and progression. This phase of the beta is scheduled to run until Monday, February 16th, 2026, with the developers actively investigating the possibility of further updates. Melee: the rise of Bloodlust. Following feedback that Melee felt weaker and lacked structure compared to other styles, Jagex has introduced the "Bloodlust" status. This new mechanic adds a specific rhythm to Melee combat, moving away from a total reliance on the Berserk ultimate. * Bloodlust Mechanics: Stacks are primarily generated through the new ability "Pressing Blow". Maximum stacks can also be instantly generated by casting Berserk or using Punish on targets with less than 50% health. * The Berserk Rebalance: To prevent excessive power creep while buffing Melee's base damage, the Berserk damage multiplier has been reduced from 2x to 1.75x, while its self-damage penalty has been lowered to 1.25x. * Ability Buffs: Hurricane now reduces its cooldown by 3 seconds for every enemy hit, making it a formidable AoE tool. Additionally, Dismember has been converted into a 0% adrenaline utility with increased damage. * Return of Quake: Quake has been re-enabled to provide Melee with earlier access to AoE damage and defense debuffs. Ranged: tactical tagging and burst. The Ranged style is receiving updates designed to differentiate its toolkit and reduce rotation interruptions. * Corruption Shot Rework: In a significant shift, Corruption Shot no longer spreads damage over time. Instead, it now immediately tags nearby enemies, allowing players to group targets for follow-up attacks like Bombardment, which now has an increased AoE range of 2 tiles. * Deadshot Power: When paired with the Igneous cape, Deadshot now lands a total of 8 hits, significantly increasing its burst potential. Magic: reducing bloat and boosting synergy. Magic updates focus on removing redundant abilities while providing better tools for early and mid-game players. * Ability Removal: Detonate has been disabled as it overlapped significantly with Magma Tempest and Corruption Blast. To compensate, Magma Tempest has been pushed into a higher tier with increased damage and a 25% adrenaline cost. * Smoke Tendrils Utility: Smoke Tendrils is now a 0% adrenaline ability. This allows it to serve as an "adrenaline stim" when paired with Tsunami, helping players who lack high-end critical strike gear to maintain their momentum. General changes: the 60% ultimate meta. Perhaps the most impactful changes in Update 2 affect all styles, specifically targeting the accessibility of high-tier power. * 60% Adrenaline Ultimates: Core damage-dealing ultimates Overpower, Deadshot, Omnipower, and Death Skulls now only require 60% adrenaline by default. Previously, these required 100% adrenaline or a late-game Igneous cape to be viable. * New Damage Formula: Jagex has introduced a logarithmic "Damage Per Level" formula. This increases power significantly in the early and mid-game to offset the removal of Berserker auras, making progression less tedious without over-buffing the endgame power level. * Stun Accessibility: Stuns for all styles now unlock at level 31, with a second charge at level 54, allowing newer players to engage with stun mechanics much sooner. How to join the beta. Players can access the beta through the Jagex Launcher or by using a direct link for non-launcher users. RuneScape "Road to Restoration": major Visual Overhaul set for February 23rd. Jagex has unveiled the third installment of its "Road to Restoration" series, focusing on a significant project titled "Regrounding Items". This initiative aims to align RuneScape's visuals with a "grounded medieval fantasy" identity, ensuring that worn items and outfits fit more cohesively within the world of Gielinor. The first wave of these visual changes is scheduled to launch on February 23rd, 2026. Defining "regrounding" in a high fantasy world. While the term "grounded" often implies a shift toward low fantasy, Jagex clarified that RuneScape will remain a high fantasy game where magic is central. Instead, "regrounding" refers to making the world feel consistent by ensuring all items obey a specific set of thematic rules. The project specifically targets "non-diegetic" items those that are visually intrusive or thematically out of place within a medieval setting. Elite Skilling Outfit reworks. Elite Skilling outfits are identified as some of the most prominent items requiring adjustment. Several outfits are being renamed and visually reworked to be less "obtrusive": * Fishing: The Fury Shark Outfit will become the Master Angler's Outfit. * Divination: The Elder Divination Outfit transforms into the Master Diviner's Outfit. * Runecrafting: The Infinity Ethereal Outfit is renamed the Master Runecrafter's Outfit. * Mining: The Magic Golem Outfit becomes the Master Miner's Outfit. * Woodcutting: Nature's Sentinel Outfit will be known as the Master Lumberjack Outfit. Beyond visual changes, the mechanics for obtaining these sets are being streamlined. Players will soon only need to craft the "combined" version at an invention table, and all uncombined lesser pieces will be removed from the game. Players who have these items keepsaked will have their keepsake keys returned. The "hit list": adjustments and removals. Jagex is also addressing items that alter player proportions or appear "non-human". For example, several Slayer Masks and Helms such as the Jellyhead and Wyrm helms will be converted into face-fitting masks rather than replacing the player's entire head. Additionally, items with excessive particle effects are being toned down to meet modern visual standards. This includes the Soul Cape, Cinderbane gloves, and various medallions. Finally, a selection of items deemed incompatible with the game's visual integrity will be removed entirely: * Infected Zombie Outfit * Super Disco Outfit * Octopus Backpack * Mimic Helm * Zodiac Costumes * Flaming Head and Flaming Skull items Looking ahead.
