Agreement reached for new arena, mixed-use development in Osaka.

Agreement reached for new arena, mixed-use development in Osaka. Agricultural machinery and heavy equipment manufacturer Kubota Corporation has linked up with real estate developer Mitsui Fudosan and the real estate arm of Kansai Electric Power Company for a project which aims to transform its former headquarters in Osaka into a mixed-use development anchored by a 12,500-capacity arena. Kubota has relocated from the Naniwa-ku ward of the Japanese city leaving behind a site of approximately 24,000m[2] that is now primed for redevelopment. Following a public bidding process that was initiated in October, the three parties have now joined forces to conclude a basic agreement on the proposed project. With the signing of this agreement, Mitsui Fudosan and Kansai Electric Power Real Estate Development, the developers, will accelerate their consideration of a mixed-use development including a hotel and commercial facilities centred around a multi-purpose arena, with the aim of opening the facility in 2032 or later. The goal is to make this project a hub that contributes to the revitalisation of urban activities and to create new vibrancy throughout the Osaka Namba area. The project centres around an arena with a capacity of approximately 12,500 people, designed for multi-purpose use including sports and music events. It also includes a hotel to accommodate the accommodation needs of arena attendees and the growing inbound tourism market, as well as commercial facilities to bring daily vibrancy to the area, even on days when there are no events. Mitsui Fudosan's sports and entertainment focus The new mixed-use district is intended to be called Kubota Field, with the arena granted the working title of Kubota LaLa arena. In its long-term management plan '& Innovation 2030', Mitsui Fudosan has set out "development into new asset classes" as one of its business strategies, aiming to create cities that maximise the value of real-world experiences by leveraging the power of sports and entertainment. Within this context, the group operates venues of diverse sizes across multiple areas, including the Tokyo Dome, New Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium and the multi-purpose arenas LaLa arena Tokyo-Bay and Nagoya Arena. It said in a statement: "The Osaka-Namba area, where this project is located, boasts excellent transportation access and has long been a hub for diverse entertainment, attracting many visitors from both within Japan and internationally. "Amidst a shortage of arenas capable of hosting sporting events and music concerts in the Kansai region, the creation of a multi-purpose arena with a capacity of approximately 12,500 people in the vibrant Osaka-Namba area will create a space where people can gather, become enthusiastic, and interact, generating unforgettable experiences and a new level of vibrancy. "Leveraging our expertise in both hardware and software, as well as the operational know-how of our group company, Tokyo Dome Corporation, we will expand the possibilities for attracting and managing events, thereby contributing to the further revitalisation of the entire sports and entertainment industry. "Furthermore, in this project, we will take into account Kubota's long-standing commitment to the Osaka Namba area and realise urban development that will bring new vibrancy to the region." Rival project The emergence of the Kubota LaLa arena and Kubota Field project comes with another significant arena development also in the works for Osaka. In May 2021, Hirofumi Yoshimura, the Governor of Osaka Prefecture, announced that the consortium comprised of Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development (MCUD), Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), and Kanden Realty & Development had been selected to develop and operate a new arena within the Osaka Expo Memorial Park. The project is slated to break ground in 2027 and is expected to open in 2029/30. The 18,000-seat Osaka Arena aims to play host to over 145 events and welcome 1.6 million visitors per year. It will be the centrepiece of a wider project that involves the development of an entertainment district, which will include hotels, commercial and retail space, and a residential neighbourhood.

McWane partners with Kubota to bring earthquake-resistant pipe tech to US market

McWane Ductile, with operations in Coshocton, Ohio, is partnering with Kubota to bring earthquake-resistant pipe technology to the US market. The company will initially source and stock 6-, 8- and 12-inch Hazard Resilient Ductile Iron Pipe (HRDIP) from Kubota in Utah, offering it under the co-brand McWane Ductile's HRDIP with Kubota Tech. The technology, widely deployed throughout Japan with more than 41,000 miles installed, uses a specialized restrained joint design allowing pipelines to flex whilst maintaining structural integrity. This helps reduce risks of joint separation and service interruptions during seismic activity and ground movement. The partnership aims to help US utilities modernize aging infrastructure and build more resilient water systems.

Event strengthens dealer knowledge.

Event strengthens dealer knowledge. With a focus on strengthening product expertise, boosting in-field knowledge and improving sales confidence, Kubota recently held its first SalesPRO training event in Europe. Attended by over 400 sales professionals, product specialists and dealer representatives, this specialist event was held at KRDE, Kubota's European R&D centre in Crépy-en-Valois, France, where Kubota products are developed and tested. The event combined classroom learning with practical, in-field experience, to strengthen product knowledge, build sales confidence and give dealers a deeper understanding of how Kubota's technologies can address the everyday challenges faced by customers. "Our SalesPRO event reflects our commitment to dealer training," said Henry Bredin, division manager of Kubota (UK)'s agricultural and ground care machinery business. "It's not just about presenting products - it's also about helping our dealers to gain a better understanding of customer needs, while experiencing our machines in real working conditions, so they can return to the market with greater confidence and enhanced practical knowledge." Alongside product training, participants took part in practical sales exercises designed to strengthen product positioning, generating a deeper understanding of real-world scenarios and bring greater value to customer conversations. The event also brought together leading technology partners including MX, UV Boosting and Kilter, demonstrating how complementary solutions can be combined with Kubota machinery to improve productivity, precision and efficiency. "Training should be practical, engaging and closely aligned to the challenges our customers face every day," adds Henry Bredin. "And SalesPRO gave our network the opportunity to learn from doing, along with exchanging experiences in best practices, with a view to strengthening the way we bring value to customers across Europe." Kubota's SalesPRO event also showcased a continued investment in smart farming with demonstrations covering autosteering, TIM technologies, precision applications, autonomous solutions, digital tools and crop-care innovations.
