Loom provides a screen recording and video messaging platform that helps teams capture and share video messages to boost productivity and collaboration, especially in remote or async work settings. Users record screen-and-camera videos or just screen captures, then share links across apps and platforms for fast feedback and communication. The product works via a freemium model: a free basic screen recorder with paid premium features, plus enterprise security for organizations. It integrates with tools like Google Workspace and Slack, making Loom a versatile addition to digital workstreams. The company differentiates itself with a large, multi-industry user base (millions of users across tens of thousands of companies), ease of use, strong integration options, and a focus on scalable security. Loom’s goal is to simplify video-based communication to improve collaboration and productivity in modern, digital-first teams.

Vinay Hiremath, co-founder of Loom, expressed confusion after selling the startup to Atlassian for $975 million in 2023. Despite earning $300 million from the sale, Hiremath feels lost and unmotivated, struggling with career choices and personal insecurities. He considered starting a robotics company but realized he was more interested in emulating Elon Musk. Hiremath also apologized to his ex-girlfriend, attributing their breakup to his insecurities.
Women's health company Perelel has acquired Loom, an educational platform spanning reproductive health and sexual wellness.
Rewatch, a platform that uses AI to optimize virtual meetings, will be integrated with Loom, Atlassian's async video communication tool...Whether you are hosting your meeting via Zoom (ZM), Microsoft Teams (MSFT), or Google Meet (GOOG), the meeting assistant will be automatically added to the invite list.
Atlassian announced the acquisition of Rewatch, an AI-powered meeting notetaker and video hub, to integrate it into Loom and its Rovo AI platform. This will enable meeting notes to become Jira issues and make transcripts searchable. The acquisition price was not disclosed. Rewatch had raised a $20 million Series A round in early 2021 led by Andreessen Horowitz. Loom co-founder Joe Thomas highlighted the strategic fit and potential to maximize the value of meeting recordings.
