Loram Maintenance of Way is a rail infrastructure service and equipment provider. It supports North American Class I railroads and other markets with ballast maintenance, rail grinding, track inspection, and related services. Its products and work rely on specialized machines such as ballast-cleaning devices and rail-care equipment that lift rails and ties to access ballast beneath the track, enabling cleaning, rehabilitation, and replacement of ballast. The company also expands its capabilities through strategic acquisitions, giving it a global footprint and a broad toolkit of track-maintenance technologies. Unlike some peers, Loram has grown as a private, family-owned business that has steadily expanded through acquisitions (e.g., RVEL, Loram UK, GREX) to become a leading, full-spectrum provider of railway maintenance solutions. The goal is to keep railways safe, reliable, and efficient by maintaining the track structure and supporting systems across major rail networks worldwide.

US-based track maintenance firm Loram has acquired a minority stake in Bristol and Derby technology company One Big Circle, aiming to deploy Automated Intelligent Video Review technology globally. The AIVR system, already widely used by Network Rail, captures and processes data from cameras mounted on trains and trackside to create interactive inspection packages that help engineers identify potential issues. The technology records images of the trackside environment and provides analysis and reporting capabilities. One Big Circle's founding team will remain in place and continue providing existing services. The partnership enables international expansion whilst maintaining UK operations, with plans to grow local expertise and create jobs. Loram's CEO noted the technology has demonstrated considerable value in the UK market and anticipates introducing it to worldwide customers.

Loram establishing presence in Japan with new Tokyo office. Expansion marks entry into one of the world's most advanced rail markets. Loram is establishing a presence in Japan with a new office in Tokyo, marking a significant step in the company's expansion across Asia. Loram APAC Managing Director, Mark Burgess, and Regional Sales Director, Stephen Hill, were in Tokyo this month, where the office location was confirmed with the support of partners at ITOCHU Plantech Inc. The move establishes Loram's on-the-ground presence in Japan and reflects a long-term commitment to the market. Japan is recognized globally for its safety, reliability and engineering standards, with 30,000km of metro, conventional and high-speed rail. "Japan sets the benchmark for rail performance and reliability," said Mark Burgess. "It's a market that values long-term partnerships and consistent delivery, which aligns strongly with how we operate. Building a local presence is a vital step as we continue to expand across North East Asia from a Japan base." Loram will supply its advanced rail maintenance equipment to the market, supported by local capability and partnerships. Japan's rail operators maintain high expectations across engineering, technical support and service delivery. As part of its expansion, Loram will continue to invest in local capability to ensure its solutions meet these standards. "Establishing a presence in Japan is a significant milestone for Loram," said Stephen Hill. "It allows us to build long-term relationships in a highly respected rail environment and continue strengthening our global capability." This move strengthens Loram's presence in Asia and reinforces its position as a global provider of high-performance rail maintenance solutions. March 30, 2026
