Hydrogen supplier Ulemco and Luxfer Gas Cylinders have forged a strategic collaboration which aims to deliver innovative ways to store hydrogen fuel on HGVs and off-road equipment. The two companies have previously joined forces on projects including hydrogen-powered trucks, LGVs, road sweepers, a prototype ambulance and a waste collection truck that combined hydrogen with HVO - the first of its kind in the UK. This latest collaboration aims to deliver innovative, integrated solutions for onboard storage of hydrogen fuel. Currently, onboard hydrogen storage for HGVs primarily relies on high-pressure compressed gas and cryogenic liquid storage. These systems must balance heavy payload demands with the physical space constraints of the HGV chassis as well as on off-road equipment, marine and rail. The partnership said that the move will position it to meet growing global demand for innovative approaches to onboard energy storage solutions, which it said is increasing, particularly in heavy-duty applications.
