Cats & Soup rolls out a Sanrio collab with a super cute new story!

Cats & Soup rolls out a Sanrio collab with a super cute new story! NEOWIZ has rolled out a new crossover for its idle mobile title Cats & Soup, bringing the adorable Sanrio characters. The collab carries new progression systems, cosmetics, and characters into the existing idle structure. So, who are the new Sanrio visitors in Cats & Soup? The update introduces Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, and Pochacco as special visitors. They arrive through a story setup involving a mysterious rainbow forming above a pot of soup in the forest. Within this theme, you continue the usual loop of preparing food and managing spaces, but now with additional elements from the visiting characters. Activities such as running a café, preparing desserts, and organising picnic outings also involve the visitors. Droid Gamers Inc. all know that Cats & Soup is extremely charming, but with the Sanrio collab, you can take everything a notch higher. You can customise the overall environment to match the softer, character-driven aesthetic associated with Sanrio. The update also extends to decorative systems, letting you reshape your minirooms with themed items and designs. It's all about redesigning your forest spaces into a more cohesive kawaii style. Yeah, Sanrio-like kawaii! Till when is the collab running? The collaboration event is running through May 6th, 2026. A Dice Event lets you move across a board by rolling, earning event currency that you can exchange for the Cinnamoroll Slide and Pompompurin Music Box. Meanwhile, a 7-Day Login Event provides a Pompompurin Mini Costume Set at no cost if you log in consistently. Special collaboration packages add the Sanrio characters as guests appearing on spinning teacup rides. Also, there are Wind-up Toy companions that reflect each character's personality. Lastly, a set of new gameplay additions arrives with the Cats & Soup x Sanrio collab. It includes the Workshop on Wheels Sanrio event, an Attendance Event titled Sanrio characters Cherry Blossom Picnic, and a new Special Soup Pass. The game has also introduced a new regular cat breed, Peterbald, along with two limited-time baby kitties, Cherry Blossom Shorthair and Forsythia Persian. Both kittens remain available at the Observatory until the first update in May. Further additions include a new cooking facility Cutting Melons and a rest facility Fish Mobile Lounge.

South korean AI game firm Verse8 raises $5m seed round.

South korean AI game firm Verse8 raises $5m seed round. Verse8, a Seoul-based AI game creation platform, raised US$5 million in a seed round backed by Story Foundation and investors including Nexpace, Neowiz, and MARBLEX. The company said the platform has reached over 3.5 million monthly active users across play and creation, supported by more than 5,000 active creators and 25,000 games generated since launching in stealth in July. Creators can generate multiplayer games in minutes using natural language prompts without coding. The startup was founded by JC Kim and Kevin Lee, with Jake Song as an advisor. The funding will support AI development and expand creator onboarding and distribution. Food for thought. Implications, context, and why it matters. Verse8's business model uses an on-chain IP layer. * Verse8 manages intellectual property across 25,000 games through Story Protocol, an on-chain system that registers IP and tracks ownership 1. * It ties in-game items to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and supports on-chain licensing, which lets creators and IP holders track usage and royalties 2. * In the live beta, users can make legal derivative works by remixing existing projects into new game variations 3. Large gaming groups are backing AI-assisted game creation. * Nexpace, the Web3 arm of Nexon and the developer behind MapleStory Universe, announced a strategic investment in Verse8 4. * Verse8 said its seed round also included MARBLEX, Netmarble's Web3 arm, alongside Nexpace [summary]. * Verse8 founder JC Kim said generative AI could cut game development costs by up to 90% 5. * This approach could turn static intellectual property into a licensing platform where IP holders earn royalties from assets used by AI-assisted creators 2. * The model could lead to a market of fast prototypes and change how large franchises handle user-generated content and monetization. Norway's central bank buys 5.19% stake in Neowiz as shares recover from recent lows

Norges Bank, Norway's central bank, has acquired a 5.19% stake in South Korean game developer Neowiz, becoming a major shareholder. The bank purchased 1.13 million shares on 6 May, filing a disclosure report as required when holdings exceed 5%. The investment came after Neowiz shares fell from a 52-week high of KRW 31,550 in January to KRW 23,000 in early May, marking what analysts interpret as a bottom-fishing opportunity. Shares have since recovered to around KRW 27,000. Neowiz, known for titles including "Lies of P", which has sold over 4 million copies globally, reported 2024 revenue of KRW 432.7 billion, up 18% year-on-year. The South Korean Government Is Promoting the Indie Boom, Says Neowiz's Co-CEO!

The South Korean government is promoting the indie boom, says Neowiz's co-ceo! According to one of the leaders of Neowiz, the developer of Lies of P, the South Korean government is supporting game development, a practice that many other countries could learn from. Sean Kim, the co-CEO of Neowiz and developer of Lies of P, said that the South Korean government supports the country's indie gaming scene. In an interview with Knowledge, Kim said that the number of independent developers in the region has grown. Kim added that many large companies want to release games from this industry and that financing has become more conservative in recent years. After moving from mobile and online titles to other areas, Neowiz's future lies in single-player premium (paid) games for consoles and PCs. Kim said the company's strategy is multi-pronged, consisting primarily of its own titles, such as the sequel to Lies of P, and external projects, including titles from Wolfeye Studios and Zakazane Studio. Best video game consoles "The government is helping a lot of indie developers grow. Many indie studios are emerging, particularly from young, talented developers in Korea. Many mid-sized and large Korean publishers are also exploring the indie scene while gradually pivoting to the PC and console space. The mobile gaming market is saturated. Funding has become much more conservative compared to past years, especially from VCs. It's difficult to raise funding unless it's a large, ambitious project. In-house studios are vulnerable to changes, which is why Thegeek work with multiple teams on multiple projects. Since Thegeek need to publish at least two titles every year, Thegeek try to partner with external studios, such as Wolfeye and Zakazane, as much as possible. These studios have great creative talent and visions that align with its strategy. Thegeek is seeing a lot of great developers emerge in China these days, so Thegeek is focusing on that region as well," Kim said. In 2023, Neowiz invested $17 million in Blank Game Studios in Poland. Then, in November 2024, Neowiz signed an $8 million publishing deal with Zakazane, also in Poland. Finally, in early 2025, Neowiz entered into a publishing partnership with WolfEye. Neowiz also signed an agreement with Shanghai-based Shadowlight for its debut title, Kill the Shadow. Since its release in September 2023, Lies of P has attracted over 7 million players and sold over 3 million copies.
