LOWELL - In celebration of Lowell's bicentennial, the city announced the availability of grant funding to support cultural and creative initiatives. This funding opportunity is made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act and is intended to revitalize Lowell's cultural economy, which was disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 pandemic-related disruption. Total funding available is $250,000, with a maximum grant of $50,000. The application period is open now and until funding is exhausted. Nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions and event producers operating within the city of Lowell are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate alignment with the bicentennial celebration and its goals of cultural revitalization and economic recovery. NMCOG welcomes new staff. LOWELL - The Northern Middlesex Council of Governments welcomed three people to its staff in March. John Doolin joined NMCOG as a transportation-focused planner and analyst with experience in Geographic Information System, infrastructure planning and public sector collaboration. He has worked with state transportation agencies, including those in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as well as autonomous vehicle roadway mapping and roadway analysis efforts across multiple U.S. cities. Lauren Keisling joined NMCOG as a regional planner. Kiesling supports municipalities on a broad range of local and regional planning efforts, including housing, land use, transportation, sustainability and economic development. Alexavier Pilacik is a freshman at the UMass Lowell. He joined NMCOG as a Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition Municipal Fellow. Puzzle swap. TEWKSBURY - Meet fellow jigsaw puzzle fans, discuss all things jigsaw puzzles, swap puzzles and bring a puzzle for show-and-tell Saturday, March 28, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., in the lobby of the Tewksbury Public Library, 300 Chandler St. Puzzle pieces should be sealed tightly in a ziplock bag inside the box. Please tape the puzzle box close. Puzzle pieces should be totally disassembled. Participants may swap one-for-one (for example, bring two puzzles, take two puzzles).
