Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • July 5, 2026 CRAIC Formulation Finder broadens NB-Lux adoption among scientists.
  • May 12, 2026 NB-Lux claims faster R&D-to-GMP cycles and real-time order visibility.
  • February 10, 2026 K500 targets lower costs, easier scale-up, and cleaner manufacturing footprints.

What critics are saying

  • GMP software and automation face long validation cycles; a single failure delays revenue.
  • K500 sold only two units in February 2026, signaling weak early traction.
  • If K500 and NB-Lux fail GMP qualification, Nucleus becomes a niche services vendor.

What makes Nucleus Biologics unique

  • May 12, 2026 NB-Lux AI fuses formulation, quoting, manufacturing, and document control.
  • February 10, 2026 Krakatoa K500 makes 35–500L media at point-of-use in under three hours.
  • January 9, 2025 EXCiPACT plus ISO 9001 certify excipient GMP operations.

Nucleus Biologics launches CRAIC AI assistant for cell culture media development

Nucleus Biologics has launched CRAIC™ Formulation Finder, a large language model assistant for cell culture media and buffer development. The tool allows scientists to describe desired biological outcomes in natural language, and CRAIC™ generates tailored formulation recommendations within minutes based on cell type, phenotype, and manufacturing considerations. The AI assistant integrates with Nucleus Biologics' NB-Lux™ AI platform, enabling users to move directly from formulation discovery to customisation, quoting, and ordering. The system combines LLMs with the company's formulation expertise and manufacturing database, allowing researchers to develop and test optimised formulations within 30 days. "Scientists can now own an optimised media leveraging the human atlas of scientific research," said David Sheehan, founder and CEO. CRAIC™ is currently available within the NB-Lux™ AI platform.

Nucleus Biologics launches NB-Lux AI ecosystem to cut GMP media production time to 4 weeks

Nucleus Biologics has launched NB-Lux AI, an AI-enabled digital ecosystem for media and buffer manufacturing in advanced therapies. The platform integrates formulation design, feasibility analysis, ordering, manufacturing and documentation into a single continuous workflow, reducing GMP media delivery time to four weeks. Building on the company's 2020 cloud-based ordering portal, NB-Lux AI features AI-driven feasibility analysis, automated quoting, real-time order tracking and a secure document repository called "the Vault" for regulatory filings. The system eliminates manual processes by digitising the entire workflow from formula to GMP release. The platform enables therapy developers to customise formulations whilst maintaining complete ownership and visibility. It integrates directly with Krakatoa manufacturing systems and supports seamless scaling from R&D to Excipient GMP manufacturing.

Nucleus Biologics launches Krakatoa K500 pod-based system for on-demand media and buffer production

Nucleus Biologics has launched the Krakatoa K500, a pod-based media and buffer manufacturing system for bioreactor-scale production. The system produces up to 500 litres of sterile solutions in under three hours with less than 15 minutes of hands-on time. The automated system uses preformulated powder-filled pods and a closed single-use workflow to eliminate cold-chain transport, refrigerated storage and centralised media preparation. It features QR-code-driven operation, continuous inline monitoring and automated digital batch record generation for GMP compliance. The San Diego-based company developed the product over six years to reduce costs and complexity in advanced therapy development. Founder David Sheehan said the system aims to create a new paradigm for delivering bioprocessing liquids to bioreactors whilst improving patient access through cost reduction.
