Odyssey Resorts

Odyssey Resorts

Lakeside resort group with cabins

Overview

Odyssey Resorts operates a collection of lodging properties in Minnesota, offering cabins, lodges, cottages, suites and resorts around Lake Superior. Its portfolio includes Caribou Highlands Lodge, Grand Superior Lodge, Larsmont Cottages, Breezy Point Cabins on Lake Superior, East Bay Suites, Beacon Pointe Resort, Lutsen Sea Villas, Mountain Inn, and Ruttger's Bay Lake Resort. Guests stay in a variety of accommodations—ranging from rustic cabins to lakeside lodges and suites—at different properties, providing access to local scenery and outdoor activities. The company differentiates itself by curating a group of distinctive, character-driven places rather than a single hotel experience, giving guests multiple unique settings under one umbrella. The goal is to offer high-quality lodging experiences in scenic Minnesota locations and to grow a portfolio of places that appeal to travelers seeking comfortable, locally flavored getaways.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Trapper's Landing expanded Odyssey to its tenth resort, increasing booking inventory immediately.
  • Anderson's CEO promotion signals continuity after Schultz's retirement and smoother execution.
  • Odyssey's official site promoted Trapper's Landing as part of the family, boosting brand reach.

What critics are saying

  • Revenue depends on Minnesota leisure travel and seasonal weather across lakefront properties.
  • Trapper's Landing remains founder-owned, so management contracts can shift quickly if performance slips.
  • No diversified geography exists; a single regional downturn threatens most of Odyssey's portfolio.

What makes Odyssey Resorts unique

  • Odyssey Resorts manages ten Minnesota resorts after Trapper's Landing Lodge joined in May 2026.
  • Howard Anderson became CEO in May 2026, bringing hospitality depth from COO and VP roles.
