More (Photo by John Powell/Liverpool FC via Getty Images) Liverpool FC via Getty ImagesAs the 2024/25 season comes to an end and clubs begin to turn their attention to summer changes, one news story this week stood out as Jurgen Klopp was linked with a move to AS Roma.According to Italian newspaper La Stampa , the former Liverpool boss has agreed to take over from Claudio Ranieri who will be moving into a directorial role once the current campaign is over. This past weekend saw Ranieri given an emotional send-off by Roma supporters before, during and after his final home game as manager amid scenes similar to those seen at Anfield last year.Jurgen Klopp makes transfer suggestionsNow, according to that same report from Enrico Testa, Klopp is so keen to get back into coaching that he was making Roma aware of what he expected in terms of improvements to their current squad.Singling out three key areas that he believes immediately need reinforcements, the German boss reportedly wants three starters and three back-ups in central defence, right wing and attack. However, Tuesday morning seemingly saw Klopp’s representative seek to quash the rumours. In a short statement given to gambling website winwin.com , agent Marc Kosicke simply said “this news is not true.”How Jurgen Klopp could transform Serie AYet that does not prevent Roma supporters – or the Serie A fanbase in general – from wondering just what such a move could do for both the Giallorossi and the wider world of Italian football.Klopp’s accolades speak for themselves. From promotion with Mainz 05, winning the Bundesliga twice and reaching the UEFA Champions League Final with Borussia Dortmund and then transforming Liverpool, success has followed the 57-year-old at every turn. His high-energy and demand for relentless effort has lifted every group he has led, raising standards across the board both on and off the pitch. Klopp’s man-management even extends beyond the playing squad and staff, forging a deep connection with supporters on Dortmund’s ‘Yellow Wall’ and Anfield’s Kop alike.Harnessing the power of those passionate fanbases, he made it his mission “to turn doubters into believers.” Yet arguably his greatest achievement was to raise the bar of the entire Premier League, pushing rivals like Manchester City to new heights in order for Pep Guardiola’s men to finish above Liverpool. That kind of elevation is exactly what Serie A needs. Yes, Inter have reached the Champions League Final this year and Antonio Conte’s Napoli are pushing for a domestic title, but the overall standard of the league has undoubtedly slipped.Juventus are lurching from one coach to the next with no real vision for the future, while the once-mighty AC Milan will miss out on Europe altogether next season and the likes of Fiorentina, Torino and Parma – all having won major trophies in the past – are shadows of their former selves.Indeed, outside of Gian Piero Gasperini’s irrepressible Atalanta , it is difficult to see any other Italian club playing good football and making intelligent, well-thought out decisions off the pitch.Forcing them to compete with a manager of Klopp’s standard and stature would push those traditionally great clubs to rethink their approach, to empowerThe impact of a Coach as transformative as Jurgen Klopp could not only make AS Roma a genuine force, but could prove to be a rising tide that raises all boats on the Italian football landscape
Igor Tudor during the match between Lazio and Juventus (Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto. More via Getty Images) NurPhoto via Getty ImagesWith the top of the Serie A table already looking extremely condensed, Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Lazio, a result that could prove costly in the race of UEFA Champions League places.Going into the weekend, third-placed Atalanta had a five-point cushion over their rivals for those spots, with Juve, Lazio and AS Roma all tied on 63 points and Bologna sitting on 62.The fixture list added further intrigue to that race , Atalanta facing Roma on Monday evening while Juve headed to the Italian capital on Saturday evening to take on a Lazio side that was on a six-game unbeaten run.Juventus injury problems continueDesperate for the boost a Champions League berth would provide in both financial terms and the prestige of playing in Europe’s elite competition, a lengthy injury list continues to hamper Juve’s hopes of securing that all important top four finish.Igor Tudor was once again without key defenders Gleison Bremer, Andrea Cambiaso and Juan Cabal, with that trio joined in the treatment room by Teun Koopmeiners, Lloyd Kelly and Arek Milik.Kenan Yildiz was also suspended, and Lazio started the game in electric fashion, Matteo Guendouzi sending Fisayo Dele-Bashiru away down the right, the former Sheffield Wednesday man drawing a good save from Michele Di Gregorio with less than two minutes on the clock. The Juve goalkeeper was back in action to deal with an awkward ball into the box from Gustav Isaksen, while it took a well-timed slide tackle from Pierre Kalulu to stop Dele-Bashiru breaking away again.Tudor was furious as the two teams went down the tunnel at half time, with Nico González’s poor performance reportedly attracting the most ire. The Argentina international repeatedly lost possession and produced very little when he did retain the ball, the Juve boss unsurprisingly replacing him with Francisco Conceição during the break.Juventus waste another leadThe Bianconeri would take the lead early in the second half, a smart cross from Weston McKennie picking out Randal Kolo Muani who made no mistake from close range to grab his 7th Serie A goal in just 14 appearances.Yet having done so well to get themselves ahead, Juve would once again throw it away. As Taty Castellanos challenged Kalulu, the French defender needlessly punched him in the back.Just as it had for Kenan Yildiz against Monza, a VAR review led to an inevitable red card and Lazio were instantly back in the game. Di Gregorio made superb saves from Mario Gila and Pedro before Renato Veiga somehow found a way to stop Boulaye Dia getting on the end of a Luca Pellegrini cross.Juve held firm, although it took another VAR review to overturn a penalty when a woeful back pass from Nicoló Savona led to Di Gregorio wiping out Castellanos, the forward ruled to have been offside. The Juve keeper remained centre stage as the game went into injury time, tipping a shot from Boulaye Dia onto the post. But, in the sixth minute of stoppages, Di Gregorio made yet another fantastic save to deny Castellanos only to find himself powerless to prevent Matias Vecino tapping home the rebound.Juventus need help in top four raceThe result ultimately leaves Juventus in fourth, pending Roma’s result against Atalanta
Lionel Messi runs towards the goal during Inter Miami's MLS match on Saturday against the New York. More Red Bulls at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla, Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesOn paper, the fight shaping up atop the MLS Eastern Conference should be exactly what the league front office has hoped for. After Matchday 11, the Eastern Conference has four teams that have averaged 2.0 points or more per match so far this season. It’s the first time there have ever been so many clubs in one conference maintaining that pace this far along in the MLS regular season. And generally speaking, the clubs are the usual suspects. There’s the 2023 MLS Cup and 2024 Leagues Cup Champions Columbus Crew, managed by reigning MLS manager of the year Wilfried Nancy. There’s 2023 Supporters’ Shield winners FC Cincinnati. There’s the 2022 Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup runners-up Philadelphia Union. And then, of course, there is Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, winners of the 2023 Leagues Cup and 2024 Supporters’ Shield. Why then, do the consequences of Miami’s league games of late feel so muted? There’s the fact that Messi and Miami already won the “regular season title" last year before collapsing in the MLS Cup Playoffs

(Photo by Isabella BONOTTO / AFP) (Photo by ISABELLA BONOTTO/AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty ImagesJuventus are likely to send several loan signings back to their respective clubs at the end of the season. The Bianconeri are enduring a difficult season. Thiago Motta was sacked in March following a poor run of form and his successor, former Juventus player Igor Tudor, has managed to slightly turn things around. The club sit just outside the lucrative Champions League places at present, and with the club’s finances still in a precarious position, The Old Lady have reportedly decided against signing several loan players on permanent deals.Randal Kolo Muani, Renato Veiga and Francisco Conceicao all arrived over the past 10 months on loan deals, and it’s thought the club will send all three back to their parent clubs.Kolo Muani started life very well in Serie A after arriving from Paris-Saint Germain in January. Five goals in his first three games was a tremendous start, but his form tailed off after the initial flurry, and he hasn’t scored since the win against Como in early February. With Tudor replacing Motta and being a big admirer of Dusan Vlahovic, Kolo Muani has lost his place at the forefront of the side, and it’s likely Juve will not opt to retain the Frenchman, despite his bright start in Italy.Veiga has been something of a success at the back. Arriving from Chelsea, the Portugal international arrived in the winter transfer window and has earned praise from the Juve faithful for his performances at the back.Aged just 21, Veiga has a bright future, but it’s thought Juve can’t afford the kind of money Chelsea are asking for the centre back, and so he will also be returned to sender in the summer. The only hope is that a deal can be agreed between the two clubs to allow Veiga to remain in Serie A for another year.Conceicao is the most surprising case
STUTTGART, GERMANY - OCTOBER 07: Serhou Guirassy of VfB Stuttgart reacts during the Bundesliga match . [+] between VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg at MHPArena on October 07, 2023 in Stuttgart, Germany. (Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Getty Images) Getty ImagesOver the first eight weeks of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, there was one striker who looked absolutely unstoppable, and his name wasn’t Harry Kane.Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy started the season in the form of his life, scoring an incredible fourteen goals in eight games. And they weren’t tap-ins either. Many were from outside the penalty area, and his goal against Darmstadt in particular, where he spins, jinks to move the defender, and then smashes the ball inside the near post, was sublime. Some of the other goals, like his third against Mainz, where he lifts the ball over a defender then heads it over the onrushing goalkeeper, are only ever scored by on-form players whose confidence is sky high. The 27-year-old Guinea international’s goal-scoring streak briefly made him the top scorer in Europe’s main soccer leagues before he was sidelined with a hamstring injury. But Guirassy’s 14 goals would already be enough for him to have been the fifth highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga last season.VfB Stuttgart's Guinean forward #09 Serhou Guirassy shoots the ball to score the during the German .
