In support of the company's investment, Ontario provided $5 million in funding through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) stream of the Regional Development Program (RDP).
ChargeLab, a Toronto-based EV charging software company, has received $400,000 in funding from the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network R&D Partnership Fund. The investment will support development of a local controller for EV charging sites. The device combines hardware and software to enable charging operations during network outages. It provides offline redundancy, allowing chargers to function when connectivity is interrupted, and performs local load management to balance electrical demand in real time. The controller also uses AI to support intelligent session routing, predictive maintenance, and optimisation without relying on cloud connections. The total project value is $1.2 million, with over $800,000 contributed by partners. ChargeLab's platform is hardware-agnostic and OCPP-compliant, serving site hosts, property managers, fleets, and charging networks across North America.
IDENTOS has been awarded $975,645 from Ontario's Life Sciences Scale-Up Fund to support a $3 million investment in its Digital Trust Exchange (DTx) platform. The Toronto-based company was one of 11 recipients in a round totalling over $18 million. DTx is a secure healthcare data-sharing platform built on FHIR standards. It enables healthcare and government organisations to exchange information in real time whilst managing privacy and consent at infrastructure level. The platform's first deployment will support Ontario Health Teams in connecting unattached patients to primary care, addressing a provincial mandate to attach approximately 500,000 patients during the 2026/27 fiscal year. DTx features single sign-on capabilities and policy-based access control to reduce administrative burden on clinicians. A pilot launch is expected by the end of 2026.
The Ontario government is investing $1.49 million through the Ontario Together Trade Fund to support Huntsville-based performance exhaust supplier MBRP. The company will contribute $2.98 million to launch a new truck accessories line, insource component manufacturing, and reshore exhaust tip production from China. The project will create 18 new jobs and protect 125 existing positions. MBRP will upgrade infrastructure to support the expanded production capacity. The Ontario Together Trade Fund, announced in the 2025 Ontario Budget, is part of the province's nearly $30 billion tariff relief plan. The programme supports small and medium-sized enterprises affected by US tariffs. Due to high demand, the government added $100 million to the fund last year, bringing total funding to $150 million over three years. The initiative aims to help businesses return production to Ontario and expand interprovincial trade.
Rock Tech Lithium has secured a C$262,500 grant from Ontario's Critical Minerals Innovation Fund to explore using crude tall oil as a flotation reagent in lithium processing. The project involves Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper and Queen's University. The initiative aims to use crude tall oil, a by-product from the local pulp and paper industry, in mineral flotation processes that separate lithium-bearing minerals from waste materials. This could improve processing efficiency and reduce reliance on imported inputs whilst creating new markets for forestry products. The collaboration supports Rock Tech's strategy to build a vertically integrated lithium supply chain in Ontario. CEO Mirco Wojnarowicz stated the project demonstrates how the province can harness its forest and minerals industries to build a more resilient supply chain. The funding follows Rock Tech's ore-sorting programme, which identified potential cost reductions of up to 50% in crushing and concentration processes.
