Orthofix restores $1M reimbursement, but US spine distributors weigh on outlook

Orthofix Medical has restored its bone growth stimulation reimbursement, recovering roughly $1 million lost during a six-week pricing disruption in the second quarter. Chief Financial Officer Julie Andrews told the Canaccord Genuity Growth Conference that improving biologics and limb reconstruction trends, plus an expected $15 million European inventory order, are supporting the outlook. However, the company faces a steeper-than-expected decline among smaller US spine distributors. Orthofix is now focusing on larger partners and delaying long-range guidance until performance stabilises. The European stocking order, whilst profitable, will create near-term cash-flow pressures and an approximately $22 million revenue headwind next year. The company expects third-quarter revenue to remain flat compared to the second quarter.

Orthofix Medical raises 2026 outlook to $845M-$855M on double-digit spine and limb growth

Orthofix Medical reported 5% pro forma constant-currency sales growth in Q2, driven by double-digit gains in spine fixation and limb reconstruction, alongside stabilising biologics and restored Medicare reimbursement for bone-growth stimulators. The company raised its 2026 outlook to $845 million–$855 million in sales and $95 million–$98 million in adjusted EBITDA. The revised forecast partly reflects a European distributor arrangement expected to contribute roughly $15 million in 2026 sales, mainly in Q4. Smaller US spine distributors remained a weakness despite strong performance from the company's largest distributors. Orthofix expects productivity challenges among smaller partners to persist through 2026 and is evaluating consolidation, investment, or exits for underperforming relationships. Chief executive Massimo Calafiore said the company's transformation "remains a work in progress".
