Plakentia Vet

Plakentia Vet

Largest Greek veterinary care network

Overview

Plakentia Vet builds and operates the largest organized veterinary network in Greece by acquiring clinics and creating advanced medical centers that offer secondary, specialized, and 24/7 emergency care for companion animals. It serves as both a direct care provider for pet owners and a referral hub for primary veterinarians needing access to advanced diagnostics, surgeries, and equipment like MRI. The network spans nine units plus the Vet In Progress diagnostic laboratory, with a staff of over 230 people including about 130 veterinarians, and grows through acquisitions and new facilities. Its goal is to continue expanding into Crete, the Peloponnese, Rhodes, and Cyprus and reach around €20 million in annual revenue, strengthening its leadership in the region.

SMERC invests $25M to create Greece's largest veterinary clinic network

SMERemediumCap (SMERC) has invested €22 million to create Plakentia Group, Greece's first organised nationwide network of veterinary clinics. The investment created the largest veterinary clinic network in the Balkans, comprising nine units across Attica, Thessaloniki, Volos, and the Cyclades. The group operates 24/7 with 200 hospital beds, 130 veterinarians, 10 operating theatres, and intensive care units. It employs advanced diagnostic equipment including CT and MRI scanners. SMERC developed the network through acquisitions of existing clinics and establishment of new facilities in Thessaloniki and Alimos. All units were integrated under common operational procedures and corporate standards. The investment focused on attracting specialised staff, repatriating Greek veterinarians from abroad, and upgrading facilities to match leading European veterinary hospitals. The group estimates turnover approaching €12 million in 2026.
