Propel

Propel

Free mobile app for benefits management

Overview

Propel builds and operates a free mobile app called Providers that helps low‑income Americans manage welfare benefits, save money, and earn income. The app provides instant EBT balance checks, removing the need to call a help line, and offers personalized coupons, resources, and job postings that fit different schedules, from gig work to full‑time roles. Propel likely earns revenue through partnerships with businesses that supply the tailored deals and job opportunities featured in the app, while keeping the service free for users across all 50 states and 3 territories. A key goal is to raise awareness about Medicaid churn during post‑pandemic unwinding and to meet users where they already are to help them navigate the safety net more effectively.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • The $10 million SNAP emergency fund in October 2025 drove massive user engagement and goodwill.
  • Propel’s 2026 site says free access keeps acquisition friction near zero for low-income households.
  • The 2024 funding round and JPMorgan Chase-backed relief effort signal durable investor and partner interest.

What critics are saying

  • SNAP policy shifts can crush usage if federal payments or state integrations change in 2026.
  • Instacart-style retail partners can copy discount offers, eroding Propel’s monetization and bargaining power.
  • If EBT data access closes, Propel loses its core utility and millions of monthly users.

What makes Propel unique

  • Propel’s 2026 app gives instant EBT balance checks across 49 states, DC, and territories.
  • The 2025 Providers-to-Propel rename unifies benefits, savings, and income tools in one consumer brand.
  • Propel’s GiveDirectly SNAP relief fund distribution through the app proves trusted last-mile access.
