QuantWare

QuantWare

Designs, fabricates scalable superconducting QPUs

Overview

QuantWare designs, fabricates, and sells superconducting quantum processors (QPUs) to quantum computing companies, research institutes, and tech groups worldwide, acting as a hardware supplier for the quantum ecosystem. Its QPUs use the VIO 3D integration architecture, which routes control signals vertically to overcome wiring bottlenecks and scale to thousands of qubits, with products like Soprano and Contralto and a roadmap to the VIO-40K up to 10,000 qubits. The company concentrates on QPU hardware only, enabling other players to build complete quantum systems without making their own processors, and is building a large‑volume fabrication path through KiloFab. QuantWare’s goal is to accelerate the arrival of useful quantum computing by expanding manufacturing capacity and making high‑quality quantum processors broadly available.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • May 5, 2026 brought a $178 million Series B from Intel Capital and IQT.
  • QuantWare said it has shipped to 50 customers across 20 countries.
  • Open roles in June 2026 show active hiring across fabrication, design, and finance.

What critics are saying

  • VIO-40K first customer shipments slip to 2028, delaying revenue after the 2026 raise.
  • Superconducting rivals and vertically integrated giants can outspend QuantWare on performance.
  • If KiloFab underdelivers yield or capacity, QuantWare becomes a pre-revenue hardware lab.

What makes QuantWare unique

  • QuantWare is the neutral QPU supplier, unlike IBM and Google internal chip teams.
  • Its VIO 3D architecture targets routing bottlenecks, not just qubit count.
  • KiloFab aims to industrialize superconducting QPU fabrication in Delft by 2026.

Intel Capital, IQT join QuantWare's $178M Series B to build industrial-scale quantum chips

QuantWare, a Delft-based quantum processor company, has raised $178 million in a Series B round, the largest ever for a dedicated quantum processor firm. Intel Capital and IQT joined as new investors, alongside existing backers including FORWARD.one and Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund. Founded in 2021, QuantWare designs and sells quantum processing units and has shipped to over 50 customers across 20 countries, making it the largest commercial QPU supplier by volume. Unlike IBM or Google, which build chips exclusively for their own systems, QuantWare operates as a neutral supplier. The company uses modular chiplet designs and plans to build the world's largest dedicated quantum chip factory, increasing production capacity twentyfold. The funding will support development of processors 10 times larger than current market offerings.

QuantWare raises $27M for quantum tech

QuantWare has raised $27 million to advance its VIO technology, which addresses key challenges in scaling quantum processors. VIO enables the creation of quantum processors with significantly more qubits, paving the way for quantum computers with over a million qubits in a single processor. The funding will accelerate the expansion of QuantWare's chip manufacturing facilities and help attract top talent. CEO Matthijs Rijlaarsdam emphasized VIO's crucial role in the future of quantum computing.
