RxSight develops medical devices for vision correction in cataract surgery. Its flagship product is the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), an intraocular lens that can be adjusted after implantation using a Light Delivery Device (LDD) to achieve the best possible vision. How it works: after the LAL is implanted, doctors use controlled light exposure via the LDD to fine-tune the lens power post-operatively, allowing precise refractive outcomes before finalizing vision. How RxSight differs from competitors: instead of relying on fixed lenses, it offers an adjustable lens system that enables post-operative customization, paired with a dedicated delivery device and support for ophthalmologists and clinics to optimize patient results. Its goal is to improve quality of life for patients with cataracts and corneal astigmatism by delivering superior, individualized visual outcomes and expanding access to precise vision correction in the cataract market.

Alcon and RxSight announced a strategic partnership on 6 July to co-develop post-operatively adjustable intraocular lenses. The collaboration combines RxSight's light-adjustable technology, which allows surgeons to fine-tune patients' vision using UV light after surgery, with Alcon's global commercial reach and surgical equipment portfolio. Alcon reported strong Q1 2026 results with net sales of $2.7 billion, up 10% year-over-year. Core diluted earnings per share rose 16% to $0.85, whilst core operating margin reached 21.2%. The company generated $279 million in free cash flow and authorised a new $1.5 billion share repurchase programme. RxSight's Q1 2026 revenue fell 18.5% to $30.9 million due to lower Light Delivery Device sales. Despite this, gross profit margin improved to 76.1%. The company's net loss widened to $15.9 million, though it maintains $217.9 million in cash reserves.
Plenty of interest in RxSight's Light Adjustable Lens at AUSCRS. Reading Time: 3 mins read RxSight believes Australian cataract surgeons are ready to embrace a technology that has already transformed refractive cataract surgery overseas, using this year's AUSCRS conference to showcase its Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) to the local market. More than 325,000 LALs have now been implanted globally, and with the system now available in Australia, RxSight general manager for Australia and New Zealand Amber Hext said the response from specialists at this week's AUSCRS conference on the Sunshine Coast had exceeded expectations. "There has been a lot of curiosity and a lot of questions about how the LAL can fit into people's practices," she said. "There has also been a healthy level of scepticism, which is great. It's given Insight News the opportunity to showcase the enormous amount of clinical data behind the technology, while also having Dr Baseer Khan on its stand to speak from experience. "Having someone who has performed more than 1,000 implants provides a peer-to-peer discussion that's beyond what we can do." Hext said many delegates had arrived already familiar with the technology from its international success and were eager to understand how they could begin offering it to Australian patients. The LAL is the world's only intraocular lens that can be adjusted after cataract surgery. Following implantation, surgeons use RxSight's Light Delivery Device (LDD) to apply targeted UV light treatments that reshape the lens, allowing postoperative refinement of refractive outcomes before the lens is permanently locked in. Rather than relying solely on preoperative calculations, the system enables surgeons to fine-tune vision after surgery, helping deliver a bespoke refractive result for each patient. Interest at AUSCRS centred on several key topics, including whether the lens delivers extended depth of focus (EDOF)-like performance despite not being classified as an EDOF IOL. "The other big question is who the lens is really for," Hext said. "Many surgeons initially think it's only suited to post-refractive surgery patients, but it's actually appropriate for a much broader cross-section of patients. That's been an important conversation." She said the ability to demonstrate the LDD in person and facilitate discussions with experienced users highlighted the value of exhibiting at conferences. "Marketing and publications all have an important place, but nothing replaces playing on the actual Light Delivery Device, talking to key opinion leaders and having those peer-to-peer conversations," she said. "Human connection always wins." With strong interest already generated, RxSight's next priority is supporting Australia's first wave of LAL adopters while it works towards broader market access. "We've already had surgeons saying, 'I want to get going. What are the next steps?'," Hext said. Early adopters will receive extensive clinical support, with RxSight building its Australian team while drawing on experienced international clinicians to assist with initial cases. "We have an incredible group of international experts who want to come over and support Australian surgeons," Hext said. "We'll be there for those first cases, and if surgeons want to explore the technology, we're ready to have that conversation."
RxSight Tags Aziz Mottiwala as President and CEO, Ron Kurtz, MD, as CMO. Thursday, July 16, 2026 12:27 AM | Aziz Mottiwala (l) and Ron Kurtz, MD. | / | ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - RxSight, Inc. (NASDAQ: RXST), an ophthalmic medical device company focused on providing high-quality customized vision to patients after cataract surgery, has announced a planned leadership transition with the appointment of Aziz Mottiwala as president and chief executive officer, succeeding Ron Kurtz, MD, who will continue to serve the company in the role of chief medical officer. Changes are effective July 20, 2026. In connection with this transition, the company advised that Dr. Kurtz will resign from the board of directors, at which time Mottiwala will be appointed to the board. The company stated it is not updating its previously communicated financial guidance in connection with this announcement. "We are excited to welcome Aziz to RxSight and believe his deep commercial and operational experience in eyecare makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the company into its next chapter of value creation," said Andy Corley, chairman of the RxSight board of directors. "On behalf of the board, I want to express our sincere appreciation to Ron for his vision and leadership in establishing adjustability in the ophthalmic marketplace, and for his continued commitment to advancing our technology and clinical value as chief medical officer. Ron's track record of product development is well known throughout the ophthalmic community, and we look forward to his continued leadership as we expand adjustability into broader market segments." In making the announcement, RxSight lauded Mottiwala, saying he brings extensive commercial leadership experience across eyecare, with a proven track record of building and scaling high-performing commercial organizations. He most recently served as chief commercial officer at Tarsus Pharmaceuticals, which had announced his departure earlier this week, and previously held the same role at Opiant Pharmaceuticals. Before that, Mottiwala spent more than a decade at Allergan, where he held senior leadership positions across the company's eyecare franchise and broader commercial organization, the company noted. He holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California. "I am excited and honored to join RxSight at such a critical time for the company," said Mottiwala. "RxSight has created a unique and differentiated platform with significant opportunity ahead. Adjustability has brought a new level of accuracy and customization to modern cataract surgery that is still in the early stages of market adoption." "RxSight is well positioned to further its mission of transforming cataract surgery through adjustability, making this the right time for me to focus on areas where I can have the greatest impact" said Dr. Kurtz. "I look forward to working closely with Aziz, the RxSight team, and our clinical partners to continue bringing life-changing innovations and personalized vision to patients." These leadership changes follow a news announcement from RxSight on July 6 advising of the company's non-exclusive collaboration with Alcon to jointly develop adjustable, presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses. As part of the agreement, RxSight will receive a $60 million upfront payment to begin development and could receive up to an additional $140 million in payments as development and regulatory milestones are met, the announcement stated at the time. On July 7, RxSight reported select preliminary financial results for the second quarter of 2026, which demonstrated expected total company revenue of approximately $32 million to $34 million. This includes $5 million to $7 million in revenue recognized from the RxSight-Alcon collaboration, with the specific amount expected to be reported in August with the company's financial results for the second quarter of 2026.
RxSight announced a leadership transition effective 20 July 2026, appointing Aziz Mottiwala as president and chief executive officer. Ron Kurtz, the outgoing CEO, will continue with the company as chief medical officer. Mottiwala brings extensive commercial leadership experience in eye care, most recently serving as chief commercial officer at Tarsus Pharmaceuticals. He previously held the same role at Opiant Pharmaceuticals and spent over a decade at Allergan in senior leadership positions across the company's eye care franchise. RxSight specialises in adjustable intraocular lens technology for cataract surgery. The company's Light Adjustable Lens system is the only commercially available intraocular lens technology that can be adjusted after surgery. In connection with the transition, Kurtz will resign from the board of directors, with Mottiwala taking his place.
RxSight reported preliminary Q2 sales fell 20% year-over-year to approximately $27 million, excluding collaboration revenue, with Light Adjustable Lens unit sales down 10% to 24,917. The company expects total Q2 revenue of $32 million to $34 million, including $5 million to $7 million from its new strategic collaboration with Alcon. The Alcon partnership improved RxSight's 2026 outlook, with revenue guidance now set at $140 million to $160 million, including $30 million to $40 million from the deal. The company raised its gross margin forecast to 73% to 75%. Management attributed the near-term decline to competitive launches and weaker consumer sentiment affecting procedure volumes. RxSight plans to increase sales-force investment and develop next-generation products, including adjustable presbyopia-correcting lenses through the Alcon collaboration.
