Published on March 30, 2026 SWTCH Energy, a provider of EV charging solutions for multi-tenant buildings, was present at the recent 2026 EV Charging Summit & Expo (EVCS), showcasing the latest products that enable EV ownership and charging without a private parking space. During EVCS, State of Charge's Tom Moloughney had the opportunity to speak with SWTCH Energy's founder and CEO, Carter Li. The company was founded in 2016 and has since deployed more than 25,000 charging stations across residential communities, commercial buildings, highway corridors, and municipal networks. The main concept of SWTCH Energy is to install a central brain (SWTCH Cortex) and a network of charging stations available to residents with EVs. Electrically, SWTCH relies on load management to use the property's spare power for charging and to minimize or eliminate upgrade costs. The load management settings can be tailored to a particular location, including grouping certain EV charging stations and switching among them every few minutes. The latest one is the SWTCH Flex Charger, a Level 1/Level 2 charging station with a peak output of 11.5 kW (up to 48 amps at 240 volts) and SAE J1772/NACS charging connector option. Additionally, the company offers the SWTCH Smart Outlet, a smart NEMA 14-50 outlet with a lock option. In this case, the EV user would have to have their own charging cable. The market segment of EV charging at apartment buildings has been only a fraction of the total EV charging industry for a long time.
