Scatec develops and owns utility-scale renewable energy plants across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe, handling project development, engineering, procurement, construction, and long‑term operations. It earns from selling electricity produced by its own plants under long-term PPAs, as well as from EPC contracts and by selling down equity or divesting assets to fund growth, while often pairing solar with hydropower, wind, and battery storage for stable power. The company differentiates itself with an integrated, ownership-based lifecycle model that prioritizes long-term asset ownership and growth financing in high-potential markets. Its goal is to build a diversified portfolio of reliable clean energy assets and expand into new technologies and markets, including green hydrogen.

Scatec starts full Operations at Egypt's 1.1-GW Obelisk solar project. * Thursday, 13th August 2026 * by Doaa Ashraf A photo of first phase of the Obelisk solar power project in Nagaa Hammadi city. Photo source: (the Cabinet's release) Scatec, a leading Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider, has reached the Commercial Operations Date (COD) for the second and final phase of its 1.1-gigawatt (GW) Obelisk solar and battery storage project in Nagaa Hammadi bringing the full project into operation. "Completing Africa's largest hybrid solar and battery installation demonstrates our ability to develop, finance, and deliver large-scale renewable energy projects in emerging markets," said Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec. "Obelisk will supply clean, reliable power to Egypt for 25 years and is a tangible contribution to the country's energy security and transition," he added. The project was developed in two phases. The first phase includes 561 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity and the full 100 MW/200 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery storage system, while the second phase adds 564 MW of solar capacity. The project is expected to generate more than 3,000 GWh of electricity annually, which will be supplied to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) denominated in USD. The project will also reduce carbon dioxide (Co2) emissions by more than 1.2 million tons per year (mt/y), according to the company. With the Obelisk project fully operational, along with Scatec's 380 MW Benban solar plant, the company now has around 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation in Egypt. Scatec stated that its near-term Egyptian portfolio includes more than 4.3 GW of renewable energy capacity and 4.1 GWh of battery storage capacity. The portfolio is expected to generate about 17 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity annually and provide grid stability support. Scatec is the controlling shareholder of the Obelisk project, while the National Bank of Egypt, Norfund and EDF Power Solutions are minority equity partners. The project was financed with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), African Development Bank (AfDB), British International Investment (BII) and European Investment Bank (EIB), which acted as senior lenders. In June 2026, Scatec announced plans to invest up to $5 billion in Egypt over the coming two years across several areas, including renewable energy-powered desalination, green data centers, solar and wind projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and infrastructure supporting the country's green transition. Scatec develops, builds, owns, and operates renewable energy plants, with 6.4 GW generation and 2 GWh storage capacity in operation and under construction across five continents. Scatec solar plant Tunisia achieves financial close for €96 million project. Financial close achieved for Scatec solar plant Tunisia. Scatec ASA has reached financial close on the 120 MW Sidi Bouzid II solar project in Tunisia and has commenced construction. The project is being developed in partnership with Aeolus SAS, a unit of Toyota Tsusho Group, with Scatec holding 50% of the project. Scatec solar plant Tunisia project details. The Sidi Bouzid II solar project was awarded through a government tender in December 2024 as part of Tunisia's strategy to expand renewable energy sources. The estimated total project cost is €96 million, which will be financed with approximately 70% leverage through non-recourse debt and equity. Lenders and financial support for Scatec solar plant Tunisia. Senior lenders for the project include the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The project also receives additional support from the EU Neighbourhood Investment Platform and guarantees from the European Fund for Sustainable Development (EFSD+). Environmental impact and timeline of Scatec solar plant Tunisia. Once operational, the solar plant is expected to generate about 276 GWh per year and reduce CO[2] emissions by nearly 107,000 tonnes annually. The commercial operation of the plant is anticipated in the second half of 2027. Disclaimer: The information published here is aggregated from publicly available sources. Scatec acquires 77 MW onshore wind project in Romania. Scatec ASA ("Scatec"), a leading renewable energy solutions provider, has signed an agreement to acquire the Urleasca onshore wind project in Romania from OX2, a leading European renewable energy developer. The 77 MW project is located in the Brăila county in south-east Romania and is supported by a Contract-for-Difference (CfD) covering approximately 43 MW of the capacity at an average price of EUR 71.3/MWh, with the remaining generation to be sold in the Romanian wholesale electricity market. The acquisition marks Scatec's entry into onshore wind in Europe and complements the company's existing solar portfolio in Romania, which includes the 190 MW Dobrun & Sadova solar projects currently under construction. Together, the projects establish a multi-technology renewable energy portfolio in Romania across solar and wind, in line with Scatec's strategy. A diversified portfolio across technologies and offtake structures, combining long-term contracted revenues with exposure to wholesale market prices, allows Scatec to actively optimise value creation across its European assets. The Urleasca project was developed by OX2, who will continue to manage the project through to commissioning under a Construction and Asset Transfer Agreement (CATA). Financial close is targeted in Q3 2026, and targeted COD is in the second half of 2028. "Urleasca is an attractive entry point into European onshore wind. The project has strong fundamentals, long-term revenue visibility through the CfD, and a structured development and construction arrangement with OX2 that gives us a disciplined path to commissioning. Combined with our solar projects already under construction in Romania, this positions Scatec with a more diversified renewable energy portfolio in one of Europe's most compelling markets for the energy transition," says Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog. The total project cost is estimated at EUR 168 million excluding VAT, and will be financed by a combination of non-recourse debt and equity, with a leverage of approximately 60%. Scatec will provide Asset Management and Operations & Maintenance services following commissioning. The transaction is subject to customary conditions precedent. Like what you are reading? OX2 completes sale of 77 MW Romanian wind farm. OX2 has sold a 77 MW ready-to-build wind farm in Romania to Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider Scatec ASA. The wind farm holds a long-term Contract-for-Difference (CfD) with the Romanian State. The Urleasca wind farm, located in south-east Romania, will feature 11 Nordex N175/6.X MW turbines. OX2 is contracted to oversee the entire construction phase scheduled to commence in Q3 2026, with commissioning planned for the second half of 2028. Once operational, the wind farm will generate approximately 244 GWh annually, equivalent to powering 71,000 households, while avoiding approximately 101,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions per year. "We're pleased to announce our third Romanian transaction, this time with Scatec, demonstrating the market's strong renewable energy momentum. OX2 continues to grow steadily in Romania, with our 1.5 GW development and construction portfolio. This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering value-driven renewable energy solutions", said Matthias Taft, CEO of OX2. The project has secured grid connectivity through a connection agreement with Romania's transmission system operator, Transelectrica. In 2025, OX2 secured a 15-year CfD with the Romanian State for 43MW installed capacity of the Urleasca project.
