Shift5 provides an observability platform for onboard OT data in defense and transportation fleets. It ingests data from diverse onboard systems through a protocol-agnostic pipeline, analyzes it, and delivers real-time, contextual insights to operations, maintenance, and cybersecurity teams. The platform supports proactive maintenance, threat detection, and automated regulatory compliance, helping assets run safely and reliably. By focusing on OT observability across many protocols and critical assets, Shift5 aims to reduce failures and strengthen cybersecurity across fleets via a subscription service.

Shift5 and Rune Technologies forge strategic defense partnership. Shift5 and Rune Technologies recently announced a strategic partnership focused on transforming how the U.S. military sustains its platforms. By combining Shift5's near real-time onboard data collection and analysis across weapon system platforms with Rune's AI-enabled predictive logistics software, the partnership delivers a powerful new approach to keeping assets mission-ready. The joint force faces a persistent readiness challenge: the gap between what's happening on a platform and the historical data typically used to make sustainment decisions. Shift5 provides continuous, normalized data directly from air, maritime, and ground vehicles, enabling visibility into platform health, usage, and maintenance indicators in real time. Rune's TyrOS platform applies AI-enabled analytics and sustainment decision support to that operational picture, helping commanders anticipate requirements, optimize resources, and coordinate sustainment activities across the force. "When it comes to addressing readiness challenges across the services, this partnership fills a critical gap," said Toby Magsig, President and Interim CEO of Shift5. "Shift5 extracts real-time data from platforms, analyzes it to deliver capabilities like predictive maintenance, and makes it accessible across a common data layer to power next-gen applications. Rune puts that data to work across the broader logistics enterprise, cutting lead times and reducing parts shortages." "Platform health data is incredibly valuable, and the real opportunity is what happens when that information is integrated into the larger sustainment ecosystem," said Dave Tuttle, CEO of Rune Technologies. "By combining Shift5's exceptional platform level data and information sets with TyrOS, commanders can better anticipate maintenance requirements, coordinate logistics resources, support autonomous resupply operations, and make more informed sustainment decisions across the battlespace at all echelons." Both companies are supporting the Army's Next-Generation Command and Control (NGC2) prototype effort and are actively working with other stakeholders across the Department of War to improve platform readiness and drive predictive sustainment and contested logistics modernization. Contested logistics is one of six priorities identified by the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, underscoring the urgency of the capability both companies are working to deliver.
Shift5, an operational intelligence platform for defence and transportation systems, has partnered with Anduril Industries on the US Army's Next Generation Command and Control initiative. The company's platform collects and translates vehicle health metrics across different vehicle types, feeding real-time data through Anduril's Lattice Mesh to provide commanders with visibility into readiness and sustainment. Shift5 integrated its capability into Lattice Mesh in two months, enabling live demonstration during the Army's Ivy Sting 4 exercise. The partnership is part of Anduril's $99.6 million prototype effort, which includes collaborators such as Palantir, Microsoft and others. Founded by former military officers who helped establish US Army Cyber Command, Shift5 provides operational intelligence for military and transportation fleets, focusing on threat detection and failure prevention.
Shift5 hires former L3Harris exec as interim CEO. Shift5's new interim CEO Toby Magsig led the launch of a technology accelerator initiative at L3Harris Technologies. Shift5 photo. Josh Lospinoso, a co-founder and shif5's former chief executive, is transitioning out of day-to-day duties to focus more time and energy on longer-term planning. Shift5, a cybersecurity startup whose backers include Booz Allen's venture capital arm, has hired former L3Harris Technologies executive Toby Magsig as chief executive on an interim basis. Magsig succeeds Josh Lospinoso, co-founder and former CEO, who is transitioning out of day-to-day duties to focus more time and energy on longer-term planning. Shift5 said Monday that Lospinoso will remain on the board of directors at the company he helped start in 2018 alongside his colleagues James Correnti and Michael Weigand. They founded Shift5 to develop software and other types of operational technology products for defense and transportation programs. Operations, maintenance and cybersecurity teams use Shift5's toolset to protect vehicle fleets. In September, Shift5 closed a $75 million Series C raise where Booz Allen Ventures was not the only notable GovCon investor name involved. AE Industrial Partners and Insight Partners also participated in the round. Shift5 has recorded approximately $11.3 million in unclassified prime contract revenue over the trailing 12 months. The Air Force represents 91% of that spend and Special Operations Command makes up the remaining 9%, according to USASpending.gov data. At L3Harris, Magsig most recently worked as vice president and general manager for an enterprise autonomous solutions business unit that included vehicles and other product lines. Magsig also oversaw L3Harris' launch of the LHXelerator initiative for integrating commercial and other categories of nontraditional defense technologies into the company's products. He is also a 26-year Army veteran and commanded the Joint Modernization Command at Army Futures Command.
Shift5, an operational intelligence platform for defence and transportation systems, has appointed Toby Magsig as president and interim chief executive. Magsig joins from L3Harris Technologies, where he served as vice president and general manager of Enterprise Autonomous Solutions. Co-founder Josh Lospinoso will transition from day-to-day operations to remain involved as founder and board member, focusing on long-term vision and strategic initiatives. Magsig brings 26 years of Army experience, including commanding the Joint Modernisation Command at Army Futures Command, where he integrated over 110 future technologies across all five armed services. At L3Harris, he led autonomous systems development and launched multiple product lines. He will oversee Shift5's strategy, operations and execution as the Arlington-based company scales its operational intelligence offerings.
