Platform: SoundCloud offers digital music streaming that lets users listen to music online for free and through paid plans. It hosts a library with over 265 million tracks for listeners, artists, DJs, and creators. How it works: free tier streams with ads; premium subscriptions (SoundCloud Go and Go+) provide ad-free listening, offline access, and higher audio quality. Artists can join SoundCloud Premier to monetize tracks via ads and fan support. Differentiation: a very large, diverse library including many independent creators, plus an artist monetization program that helps creators earn money directly on the platform. Goal: connect music lovers with a broad catalog while giving creators a way to earn revenue, growing both user base and revenue through ads, subscriptions, and creator monetization.

SoundCloud launches superfan feature that lets artists release music exclusively to followers before wider release. March 31, 2026 SoundCloud is giving artists a new way to reward their most loyal fans, introducing a feature that lets artists release music exclusively to their followers before it reaches anyone else. The feature, called 'Follower Exclusive Releases,' is available to Artist Pro subscribers and allows creators to gate tracks behind a follow either temporarily or permanently. Artists can use it to share early demos, surprise drops, or previews ahead of a wider release. SoundCloud launched the new feature with Dutch DJ Chris Stussy's latest single 'What makes you feel...' exclusively with his SoundCloud followers ahead of his debut album Lost, Found & Forgotten..., which arrives on Friday (April 3). Stussy said: "I've been using SoundCloud since the start. During my early days I was uploading a lot of podcasts and recorded sets. I sometimes gave away a free download or posted snippets of upcoming tracks I was making. "For this occasion I'd like to share 'What makes you feel...' as a thank you for everyone who's been listening to me on the platform all those years. It's part of the 'Forgotten' side of my album and I'm playing this track a lot as my intro the last couple of months. Enjoy this one, all the best." "I've been using SoundCloud since the start. During my early days I was uploading a lot of podcasts and recorded sets. I sometimes gave away a free download or posted snippets of upcoming tracks I was making." Chris Stussy SoundCloud says the new feature is one of its tools to promote active listening culture among fans. SoundCloud says fans on its platform can comment on tracks in real time, DM artists directly, repost songs to their own communities, and help drive what breaks next. SoundCloud said: "Follower Exclusive Releases builds on that foundation by giving artists a way to reward the day ones and the fans who are most tapped in." For artists, the new feature allows them to "experiment, build momentum and deepen relationships with their audience," said SoundCloud. For fans, following an artist now gives them exclusive access to music they "won't hear anywhere else - at least not yet," the company said. The new tool comes as SoundCloud says its platform now hosts more than 500 million tracks. In December, the platform partnered with Auracles, a digital identity platform founded by Grammy-winning artist Imogen Heap, to offer "clarity, protection, and creative autonomy" to artists in the digital world. The integration brings Auracles into SoundCloud's Benefits Partner Program, allowing artists to connect their SoundCloud profiles directly to Auracles, import music projects between the two platforms. In November, SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton said the platform is building music's "next major revenue format" - fan-driven income streams that sit alongside traditional streaming royalties. SoundCloud eliminated its distribution revenue share at the end of November 2025, meaning artists have started keeping 100% of their royalties from distribution to platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, TikTok, and 50+ other services - and continued to provide 100% of their earnings on SoundCloud itself. SoundCloud's new releases format came about a month after iHeartMedia and TikTok partnered to launch what they describe as "a new blueprint for artist launches moving forward," starting with a campaign for Bruno Mars' first solo album in nearly a decade. The campaign on February 26 came a day before The Romantic dropped via Atlantic Records. The platforms streamed a live broadcast called Romantic Radio with Bruno Mars: An iHeartRadio Album Preview simultaneously on TikTok and across more than 145 iHeartRadio stations nationwide. The promo reached over 270 stations in the US. Tom Poleman, Chief Programming Officer for iHeartMedia, at the time said: "The iHeartMedia-TikTok album release format signals a broader shift: from passive distribution to an interactive cultural moment that delivered deeper engagement and set record-breaking results." SoundCloud discloses breach affecting millions, warns users about phishing attempts. SoundCloud, an online audio streaming platform popular among artists sharing and promoting music, has disclosed a data breach affecting millions of users. Attackers have exfiltrated email addresses, along with other publicly available data. The company stated that it recently detected unauthorized activity in an ancillary service dashboard, and the threat actor group accessed "certain limited data." "The data involved consisted only of email addresses and information already visible on public SoundCloud profiles and affected approximately 20% of SoundCloud users," the company said in a statement. SoundCloud hosts over 400 million tracks from 40 million global creators. According to third-party estimates, the platform could have around 140 million total users. "We have completed an investigation into the data that was impacted, and no sensitive data (such as financial or password data) has been accessed," the company said. Bleeping Computer reports receiving a tip that the ShinyHunters extortion gang might be responsible for the cyberattack and subsequent extortion attempts. However, SoundCloud hasn't disclosed any details about the suspected threat actor. Before the data breach disclosure, SoundCloud users had experienced connectivity issues, with many reporting that they were unable to access the platform when using VPNs, encountering a "403 Error." The company confirmed that the issues were related to the response to the data breach. "We have taken immediate steps to further strengthen our systems, including: enhancing our monitoring and threat-detection, reviewing and reinforcing identity and access controls, and conducting a comprehensive audit of related systems," SoundCloud said. "As part of these updates, some configuration changes have caused some users on VPNs to experience temporary connectivity issues. We are actively working to resolve these VPN related access issues." The platform has contained the malicious activity and is certain that "the issue has been resolved, and there is no ongoing risk to the security or availability of the platform." However, following the containment, the platform experienced further denial of service attacks, two of which were able to temporarily disrupt the platform's availability on the web. SoundCloud recommends that users be aware of potential phishing attacks, which are commonly observed following significant data breaches. Unlock more exclusive Cybernews content on YouTube.
SoundCloud confirms breach exposing 28M user emails. SoundCloud has confirmed a security breach that led to outages and VPN connection issues over the past few days. The incident involved threat actors stealing a database containing users' email addresses and public profile information. On December 15, 2025, the audio streaming platform disclosed the breach following user reports of access problems. Users attempting to connect via VPN encountered 403 "forbidden" errors over the past four days. SoundCloud detected unauthorized activity on an ancillary service dashboard and activated its incident response procedures. "We understand that a purported threat actor group accessed certain limited data that we hold," the company said. An investigation confirmed the exposure included only email addresses and information visible on public SoundCloud profiles. No sensitive data, such as financial or password information, was accessed. The breach affected 20% of SoundCloud's users, impacting roughly 28 million accounts based on publicly reported figures. SoundCloud stated it has blocked all unauthorized access to its systems and confirmed no ongoing risk to the platform. The company collaborated with third-party cybersecurity experts to enhance security measures. These steps included improving monitoring and threat detection, reviewing identity and access controls, and conducting an assessment of related systems. During the response, a configuration change disrupted VPN connectivity to the site. SoundCloud has not provided a timeline for full VPN restoration.
