Irvine Ranch Water District selects SpryPoint and Workday to modernize customer information, billing and Enterprise Systems. February 27, 2026 New cloud-native CIS ecosystem will enhance customer experience and empower employees serving 640,000 residents Irvine, CA - Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD), one of California's most innovative public water and sewer agencies, has selected SpryPoint and Workday as core technology partners in a multi-year modernization initiative focused on elevating customer care, streamlining operations, and advancing data-driven decision-making. The Enterprise Business Software Modernization Program will replace IRWD's legacy customer information system and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) with industry-leading, cloud-native solutions: SpryPoint's SpryCIS platform and Workday Financial Management, HCM, and Prism Analytics. "This initiative supports the district's immediate modernization needs and provides a platform to grow into the future," said IRWD General Manager Paul A. Cook. "Just as important, it aligns with our ongoing commitment to innovation and excellent customer service." IRWD serves almost 250,000 drinking water, recycled water, and sewer connections across 181 square miles of Orange County, supporting a daytime population of about 640,000. The district is nationally recognized for leadership in water efficiency, financial transparency, and customer care, earning J.D. Power's top Customer Satisfaction award for the past four consecutive years. Modern, Integrated Systems to Improve Customer Experience and Efficiency Following a competitive RFP process, SpryPoint earned the highest overall score among CIS providers for its multi-tenant SaaS architecture, unified platform, and proven support for complex rate structures and AMI-enabled utilities across California. The program includes deployment of: SpryCIS - Cloud-native customer information and billing SpryEngage - Online customer portal and communications SpryMobile MFS - Mobile field service for meters and service orders SpryBackflow - Backflow program management These solutions will integrate with IRWD's Workday ERP to deliver unified data, streamlined workflows, and improved visibility across finance, HR, billing, customer service, and field operations. This integration bridges the gap between workforce data and financial strategy, providing a holistic view of total operational costs. As a result, district leaders gain the clarity needed to optimize budgets and streamline service delivery in an increasingly unpredictable economic climate. "We want our employees focused on delivering innovation and standout customer care, not managing or dealing with technology," said Lance Kaneshiro, IRWD's Director of Information Technology. "We expect SpryPoint and Workday to provide the flexibility, scalability, and real-time intelligence we need to better serve our community today while preparing for the future." Supporting Water Conservation and Rate Innovation Offering the lowest-priced water in Orange County, IRWD is nationally recognized for dynamic drought management, customer-facing efficiency programs, and a budget-based rate structure in which customers who use water efficiently pay the lowest rates. These capabilities were central to the CIS selection process. SpryPoint demonstrated the ability to: Support complex, tiered conservation rates Adjust drought stages and seasonal allocations without custom code Deliver real-time usage insights through SpryEngage Integrate with AMI and internal conservation programs Provide automated alerts for leaks, high usage, and conservation opportunities A Future-Ready Foundation for Customer Care "The modernization initiative will deliver meaningful benefits for both customers and staff," said Ryan Matuska, Customer Service Manager. "Our team will have real-time access to customer, account, and billing information with analytics to empower staff to make data-driven decisions." New system benefits include: digital-first engagement through a unified portal; more flexible billing options; improved communication capabilities via SMS, email, and online notifications; more efficient field operations via real-time mobile tools; lower total cost of ownership through SaaS delivery; and enhanced security and scalability. The enterprise program positions IRWD to continue leading regional and national efforts in water efficiency, recycled water innovation, and community-focused service delivery.
