Amit Yoran, a cybersecurity executive, founder and former public servant, is not only remembered for his expertise, but his authenticity. The CEO of Columbia, Maryland-based cybersecurity company Tenable died unexpectedly at the beginning of January following a cancer diagnosis. Yoran had previously taken medical leave in December, with Tenable’s CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond stepping in as co-CEOs.Yoran, who lived in Great Falls, Virginia, has a resume entrenched with cybersecurity work: He previously led RSA Security in Massachusetts, as well as started NetWitness in Reston before RSA Security acquired it in 2011. He also served on the board of directors for the Center for Internet Security (CIS), an organization promoting cybersecurity awareness and best practices, and the California fintech firm BlackLine prior to his death.“He always took his work seriously, but he never took himself seriously,” said Joseph Kopser, Yoran’s former roommate at West Point, adding: “Not trying to be the center of attention, but he just naturally gravitated and became the center of attention because everyone was enjoying listening to his stories and his larger than life personality.”Yoran worked as the national cybersecurity director at the Department of Homeland Security in 2003 and 2004 during the George W. Bush administration, as well as for the Department of Defense in the late ’90s. Kopser, a serial tech entrepreneur and president of the consulting firm the Grayline Group, kept in touch with Yoran as he could over the years after their days at the esteemed military academy. But the duo always supported one another. When Kopser founded the transportation tech platform RideScout in 2011, a few years before it was acquired by Mercedes Benz, Yoran invested money into the firm. He also vouched for Kopser’s idea to investors, which then caused a flood of people to put money into the startup.Plus, when Kopser ran for Congress, Yoran was one of his biggest donors, he said
During Yoran's absence, Tenable Holdings' board appointed CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond as co-CEOs.
Tenable will exhibit at BlackHat MEA 2024 held from 26th to 28th November 2024 at Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center, Malham, Saudi Arabia. At the event Tenable will showcase its AI-powered Cloud Security solution that supports securing The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia’s Cloud-First, Digital Vision 2030.In addition, Tenable will share details of its 2024 Cloud Risk Report. The report reveals that nearly four in 10 organisations (38%) have an elevated level of exposure from workloads bearing an especially risky blend of security gaps. Tenable refers to this blend as the “toxic cloud trilogy,” defined as any cloud workload having these three risk factors:A critical vulnerabilityExcessive permissionsPublic exposure“A toxic cloud trilogy increases risk by making the workload’s weaknesses easier for attackers to exploit, ultimately making the scope of exploitation potentially greater,” said Maher Jadallah, Vice President, Middle East & North Africa, Tenable. “Security teams often have to juggle multiple clouds and identities across a converged IoT, OT and IT landscape. Tenable helps to expose and close the priority security gaps that put businesses at risk
In response, Tenable recently unveiled AI Aware with features that include:
New Integration Empowers Users to Quickly Prioritize and Patch Their Most Critical Endpoint Vulnerabilities Identified by TenableKIRKLAND, Wash., Aug. 28, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Adaptiva , a global leader in autonomous endpoint management, today announced the integration of OneSite Patch with Tenable Vulnerability Management , including Tenable Security Center for vulnerability management on-premise. This integration seamlessly bridges the gap between vulnerability identification and remediation, enabling joint customers to automate the patching process at scale and significantly enhance their organization's security posture. The integration between OneSite Patch and Tenable Vulnerability Management allows users to swiftly identify, investigate, and prioritize vulnerabilities based on Tenable's threat intelligence, including Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR) and Asset Criticality Rating (ACR) scores. IT administrators can then define their desired autonomous patching behaviors – encompassing phased deployments, approvals, testing, and notifications – and let OneSite Patch for Tenable Vulnerability Management fully automate the patch management process, addressing vulnerabilities before they can be exploited."Tenable not only created the vulnerability management category, we continue to raise the bar to protect enterprises from critical cyber exposures that expose enterprises to business risk. We're excited about our integration with Adaptiva OneSite Patch, as its advanced autonomous patching capabilities enable customers to efficiently remediate vulnerabilities at scale," said Ray Komar, vice president of Cloud and Technology Alliances at Tenable. "This partnership represents a significant step forward in helping organizations streamline their security and IT operations to reduce risk."Third-party research shows that 60% of organizations take two weeks or more to initiate a patch deployment
