Leadership through service: Baylor MBA partners with The Bowery Mission. by Rachel Carlson July 7, 2026 Each year, Baylor University's Full-Time MBA program takes students beyond the classroom through the Baylor MBA Leadership Summit, an immersive experience designed to strengthen leadership skills and broaden perspectives. While the trip provides opportunities for networking and exposure to new business environments, service remains at the heart of the experience. During this year's Leadership Summit in New York, Baylor MBA students partnered with The Bowery Mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger. Through this hands-on service opportunity, students stepped into roles that challenged them to lead with empathy, awareness, and purpose. At The Bowery Mission, they supported daily operations by preparing and serving meals, engaging in conversation with guests, and assisting wherever help was needed. The fast-paced environment, combined with meaningful personal interactions, left a lasting impression on many students. For Grace Sincleair, the experience highlighted the value of serving others alongside her MBA cohort. "It's so much fun to work alongside your classmates to do something good and serve other people," Sincleair said. "I will probably never see most of those people again, but I had a moment in time to touch their lives and they touched mine." The experience also reinforced important lessons about leadership. Rather than focusing solely on outcomes or efficiency, students practiced presence, compassion, and humility. They were reminded that effective leadership begins with understanding people and responding to their needs with intention. Reflecting on his experience at The Bowery Mission, Alex Dorsey emphasized the deeper meaning behind the work. "At the end of the day, yes, we're going into business to make money, but the things we do also impact the people around us," Dorsey said. "Seeing people spend their time serving others every day was humbling. It reminded me that leadership isn't just about results, it's about how you show up for your community and the impact you choose to make." Baylor intentionally integrates service into the Leadership Summit as part of its commitment to developing servant leaders. The MBA program encourages students to connect business knowledge with purpose, helping shape careers grounded in both professional excellence and personal character. Experiences like The Bowery Mission bring that mission to life and create opportunities for meaningful growth. For many students, the service project deepened their understanding of leadership in a way that extended beyond the classroom. They applied communication, adaptability, and teamwork in an environment centered on dignity and care. Sincleair said the experience served as a valuable reminder of what truly matters. "It was a great opportunity to step outside the professional world, step outside of the office to just serve and love, and remember it's not all about your position, your status or your future paycheck," Sincleair said. "It's about how you lead and serve, and I think that was a really tangible way that Baylor showed its values through the MBA program on that trip." While the Leadership Summit provides opportunities for professional growth, the service experience reinforces the values of empathy, humility, and servant leadership that students will carry into their careers and communities.

"When we started thinking about how to bring this to life, Flavor Flav just felt right," said Rebecca Lupesco, Duke's Brand Director. "His energy is unmatched, and when he said he has an unhealthy love of mayo, that was icing on the cake. Flavor Flav and Duke's together? It doesn't get better than that.". Flavor Flav's debut as Duke's celebrity mascot was revealed after the Minnesota Golden Gophers won the game 24-10 against Virginia Tech. The excitement continued when Flavor Flav was given the reigns to perform the highly anticipated mayo dump, pouring nearly 5 gallons of Duke's Mayonnaise on coach P.J. Fleck to celebrate his team's victory. The mayo dump has been a Duke's Mayo Bowl post-game tradition since 2021 and brings a new level of absurdity to college football, this year being no exception
