The Markup focuses on investigating how technology influences society and the decisions made by powerful institutions. It examines the effects of technology on various aspects of life, including news consumption, elections, employment, access to goods and services, and the justice system. The Markup aims to provide independent analysis and insights into these changes, addressing the lack of critical examination in the media. Its goal is to inform the public about the implications of technology on everyday life and promote transparency in how these systems operate.

It’s an open-source platform that helps people with speech impairments communicate using pictograms. With the $10k he won at the 2GI pitch night, Bedouret plans to continue expanding.  “Winning this competition is a big deal for us,” he said, “and shows that our mission matters.”

This year’s ceremony was also the first to feature the Pava LaPere Young Innovator Award. That honor went to EcoMap Technologies, the company the late LaPere cofounded in Baltimore
