True Link won two awards at Money20/20 USA, one for its Retina fraud-detection technology and one for its partnership with Huntington Bank. Retina is an AI researcher that works around the clock to block scammy merchants. It has screened more than 3.8 million merchants and adds tens of thousands every month. It prevents more than 1 million high-risk transactions a year, saving customers an average of $1,700 annually. Through the Huntington partnership, customers can support teens, aging parents, and other adults with complex needs in one place. One-third of caregivers using the service are new Huntington customers. "Supporting the head of household helps banks earn the whole family," said Kara Brewer, chief strategy officer at True Link.
True Link has launched Retina, an AI agent that identifies scam merchants before they can charge customers' cards. The system has screened 3.8 million merchants and prevents over one million high-risk transactions annually, saving customers an average of $1,700 per year. Retina operates continuously, analysing consumer sentiment, expert data sources and corporate disclosures to build merchant profiles. When a charge is attempted, it compares the merchant against user settings and blocks suspicious transactions in real time, such as surprise subscriptions or difficult-to-cancel services. The technology addresses deceptive practices that traditional fraud systems miss, targeting merchants that operate in grey areas between legitimate business and outright fraud. True Link adds tens of thousands of new merchants to its database monthly.
True Link was recognized as one of the 50 hottest companies in fintech by Forbes last week, joining a small group of leading financial technology companies that are at the forefront of consumer financial innovation. The company supports people with memory loss, special needs, addiction, and mental health challenges, as well as kids and teens. Its card and investment services[1] are used by over 160,000 Americans and their family and professional caregivers.According to True Link CEO Kai Stinchcombe, “In ten years every customer in America is going to have access to a bank account[2] designed specifically for caregivers. We have never understood why there weren’t more banks and fintechs doing this and believe it is about to be an avalanche. Banking customers want to know that their financial institution is there for them in their toughest moments.”The business case for financial institutions to offer family banking, including an aging parent offering, is extremely strong:Large population – According to survey research,[3] 19.3% of adults report that they help another person manage their finances. Of those, 8.6% report helping manage the finances of an aging parent – 40% more than the 6.2% of adults who report helping manage the finances of a child or teen.Excellent customers – Caregivers to the aging and people with disabilities are better banking customers
