Werner Enterprises executives remain confident despite July's seasonal slowdown in the truckload spot market. CEO Derek Leathers told investors the supply-led recovery continues, driven by regulatory enforcement targeting underqualified operators. Leathers estimates 850 to 900 CDL schools have closed due to insufficient training standards, whilst approximately 10,000 training programmes were removed from the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry. A ban on electronic logging devices allowing manipulation of service hours has also reduced capacity. Despite modest demand, Leathers expects the supply-driven turnaround to persist through peak season, with shippers increasingly accepting the supply crunch as real. Werner's one-way truckload fleet showed strong second-quarter results, with revenue per truck per week up 28% year over year, aided by a 16% increase in miles per truck.
Werner Enterprises has declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.14 per common share. The dividend will be paid on 21 October 2026 to stockholders of record as of 5 October 2026. The Omaha-based transportation and logistics company has maintained its quarterly dividend payments consistently since July 1987. Werner operates across the United States, Mexico and Canada, providing truckload transportation and logistics services. The company reported revenues of nearly $3.0 billion in 2025. Werner employs more than 14,500 people and operates a fleet of modern trucks and trailers, offering services including dedicated and one-way truckload, freight brokerage, intermodal and final mile delivery.
Werner Enterprises has appointed Paul Hoelting to its Board of Directors to fill a Class I directorship vacancy. Hoelting brings over 30 years of C-suite experience in transportation and logistics. He recently served as President of TForce Freight, leading operational and financial transformations following its separation from UPS. Previously, he held several executive positions at UPS Freight Company, including Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Hoelting currently works as an Executive Advisor to multiple transportation technology and logistics companies. He holds degrees in Accounting and Business Administration and has passed the Certified Public Accountant examination. Werner Enterprises generated nearly $3 billion in revenues in 2025.
Nebraska joins Freedom Haulers initiative, streamlining veteran access to trucking careers. BY Keally Peck | August 4, 2026 Lincoln, NE- Nebraska is joining President Donald Trump's new Freedom Haulers initiative, a federal program aimed at helping military veterans transition into commercial trucking careers by making it easier to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). Governor Jim Pillen announced the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles will implement changes allowing eligible veterans with experience operating certain military vehicles to receive a waiver for the written CDL test. Nebraska already waives the driving skills test for qualified applicants. The program also extends the waiver eligibility period from 12 months to 24 months after military service. In addition, veterans without prior experience operating heavy military vehicles can take advantage of federally supported CDL training programs. Nebraska-based Werner Enterprises, which participated in the program's national rollout, aimed to hire roughly 1,400 veteran drivers this year. This initiative aims to create new career opportunities for veterans while helping address workforce needs in Nebraska's transportation industry.
Werner Enterprises reported second-quarter 2026 results showing mixed performance. Revenue rose to $933.93 million from $753.15 million year-over-year, whilst net income fell sharply to $6.35 million from $44.06 million. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations dropped to $0.11 from $0.72. Despite the profit decline, the company posted its strongest One-Way revenue per truck growth in a decade and expanded adjusted operating margins by 80 basis points. These gains were driven by the FirstFleet integration and network restructuring. The company's shares fell 16.1% following the results. Analysts remain divided, with cautious estimates projecting revenue of approximately $3.9 billion and earnings of roughly $179.8 million by 2029.
