The Wikimedia Foundation has sparked backlash from Wikipedia editors after disbanding its six-person Community Tech team, which handled editor-requested bug fixes, moderation tools and workflow improvements through the Community Wishlist process. Editors are debating protest actions including editing strikes, pausing vandalism cleanup and replacing fundraising banners with messages criticising the layoffs. The foundation, which reported nearly $300 million in assets in its latest annual report, said the restructuring followed months of internal reviews and that community requests will now be handled across the wider Product and Technology department. The situation has intensified amid allegations of union busting, as several affected employees were involved in early unionisation efforts with Wiki Workers United. The foundation denies any connection between the restructuring and union activities.
