Former USGS leader Kevin Gallagher joins Woolpert as senior geospatial advisor. * Rating12345 Gallagher will advise on federal strategy and help expand Woolpert's geospatial growth in the U.S. and globally. DAYTON, Ohio (June 2, 2026) - Kevin Gallagher has joined Woolpert as a senior geospatial advisor. A former U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) associate director for Core Science Systems, Gallagher brings nearly 40 years of federal service and executive leadership experience spanning geospatial strategy, science informatics, technology modernization, and national mapping efforts. As senior geospatial advisor, Gallagher will provide strategic counsel supporting the firm's long-term growth across federal and international geospatial markets. "Kevin's experience operating at the intersection of science, technology, policy, and global collaboration is exceptionally aligned with where Woolpert is headed," said Woolpert Executive Vice President and Global Head of Technology and Innovation Amar Nayegandhi. "As governments and organizations around the world increasingly rely on trusted geospatial intelligence to support resilience, infrastructure, security, and resource management, Kevin brings a unique perspective that will help strengthen our international relationships, sharpen our strategic positioning, and elevate how we engage at the executive level globally." At USGS, Gallagher served as chief information officer and chief technology officer where he led enterprise IT and telecommunications operations, including overseeing the Geologic Mapping, Geospatial Mapping, and Science Informatics programs and managing the world's largest Earth science library. He also co-authored the USGS science strategy Facing Tomorrow's Challenges: U.S. Geological Survey Science in the Decade 2007-2017. "Over my nearly 40-year federal career, I've focused on advancing mission performance through technology innovation and collaboration across the geospatial, science and technical communities. Together with USGS and partners in industry, academia, and government, we expanded the impact of geospatial data in meaningful ways," said Gallagher, "I'm excited to join Woolpert, a recognized leader in geospatial innovation, and look forward to contributing to its legacy of advancing performance, strengthening partnerships, and driving impactful outcomes worldwide." Gallagher, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from James Madison University and a Master of Science in Information Systems from Syracuse University, completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University. He also earned a Chief Information Officer Certificate from the National Defense University and served as a Congressional Fellow. Gallagher is a recipient of the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive, the Department of the Interior Distinguished Service Award, and the MAPPS Visionary Leadership Award. "Kevin has long been one of the most respected and influential leaders in the U.S. and international geospatial communities," said Woolpert Government Solutions Market Director Jeff Lovin. "His leadership at the USGS helped shape national geospatial priorities, modernize science and technology operations, and strengthen collaboration across agencies and industry. His insight, relationships, and understanding of the federal landscape will be invaluable as Woolpert continues expanding its role as a trusted partner supporting mission-critical geospatial programs across the United States and abroad." Woolpert is conducting its first fully uncrewed offshore hydrographic survey for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration off Pensacola, Florida. The mission deploys multiple uncrewed survey vessels designed by Chance Maritime, equipped with Woolpert's multibeam sonar to map deep-sea corals and ocean habitats. The project will collect 1,391 square nautical miles of high-resolution data to explore deep-sea corals, identify seafloor hazards and update NOAA's nautical charts. The survey utilises Chance Maritime's MC40 and MC29 vessels, enabling continuous remote operations without onboard crews. Woolpert hydrographers positioned across multiple time zones will remotely conduct surveys around the clock, collecting approximately 11,000 linear nautical miles of data. The multi-month mission is expected to complete later this year.
Woolpert has climbed to No. 36 on Engineering News-Record's Top 500 Design Firms list for 2026, up from its previous position. The architecture, engineering and geospatial services firm grew from approximately 2,700 to over 3,200 employees across five continents in 2025, with annual revenue increasing from roughly $650 million to more than $750 million. Under President and CEO Neil Churman, appointed in January 2025, Woolpert completed strategic acquisitions including Bluesky International in the UK, Dawood Engineering in the eastern US, and UMC Architects in April 2026. The firm also established operations in Poland and recorded its highest annual sales in its 115-year history whilst earning its ninth Great Place to Work certification.
Woolpert, a global architecture, engineering and geospatial services firm, has acquired UMC Architects, a UK-based architecture firm specialising in industrial, logistics and large-scale redevelopment projects. The deal strengthens Woolpert's capabilities to support growing demand for data centres and industrial infrastructure across Europe. Founded in 2012, UMC operates three offices in Newark, Manchester and London with over 90 design staff. The firm has worked with clients including Amazon, DHL, Ikea and the BBC. Combined with Woolpert's existing data centre practice, established through its 2022 acquisition of Sheehan Nagle Hartray Architects, the acquisition brings Woolpert's European workforce to over 600 employees. The move addresses increasing demand for repurposing industrial sites amid land and power constraints across the region.
Woolpert has appointed David Martin as Executive Vice President, Global Operations. Martin brings over 35 years of leadership experience in the architecture, engineering and geospatial industry, with expertise spanning operations, financial management and mergers and acquisitions. In his new role, Martin will enhance operational alignment and strengthen collaboration across Woolpert's sectors to support long-term strategic growth. He will be based in the firm's Pittsburgh office. Woolpert has completed nine strategic acquisitions over the past four years and now employs more than 3,200 people across five continents, with annual revenues exceeding $750 million. Martin previously served as president and chief executive officer of Larson Design Group, where he led organisational growth initiatives and expanded the firm's federal market practice.
