Overview

BVFB is a nonprofit that reduces hunger in the Brazos Valley by coordinating with about 35 local food pantries, shelters, and community partners to get and share food. It collects food from drives, individual and business donations, and surplus from grocery stores and manufacturers, then sorts, stores, and distributes it through its partner agencies to those in need (including families, children, seniors, and people in temporary crisis). The organization is funded by monetary donations, government and private grants, and fundraising events, and relies on volunteers and community programs. Its approach differs from others by its regional network of partner agencies, use of diverse food sources (including surplus), and emphasis on volunteerism, education, and advocacy to raise awareness about hunger.
