Home contract signings rose more than expected in March as mortgage rates hovered around their lowest point this year. The Pending Home Sales Index, which tracks contract signings on existing homes, jumped 6.1% from February, according to the National Association of Realtors. It’s the biggest month-over-month increase since late 2023. March’s index reading was 76.5, down 0.6% from a year earlier. A level of 100 is equal to the contract activity in 2001.
