Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required; Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred in Controls Systems (Emphasis in battery modeling and gauging)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated battery algorithm development experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience developing battery prediction algorithms like SOC, SOH, SOP, and SOE
  • Experience in developing battery cell models (ECM, Particle, or other) for system simulation
  • Experience in developing model parameter tracking algorithms
  • Experienced in using advanced control techniques, such as EKF, state observers, machine learning, and multi-parameter optimization techniques, for algorithms
  • Experience in modeling tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Simscape, including MATLAB optimization toolboxes
  • Understanding of rechargeable Li-Ion chemistries, their limitations, and control opportunities
  • Knowledge of strong mathematical fundamentals to develop solutions to complex control problems
  • Programming skills in languages like C and C++ for real-time applications
  • Data analysis skills and scripting skills, preferably in Python, to process large volumes of data
  • Familiarity with cell behavior due to load changes and thermal changes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
Responsibilities
  • Develop requirements for different performance prediction algorithms
  • Develop algorithms to estimate the State of Energy (SOE) and State of Power (SOP) of battery packs
  • Verify models and algorithms using MIL, SIL, PIL, and HIL techniques at the battery pack level
  • Verify model parameters for tracking and prediction algorithms against data collected during cell testing in a controlled environment
  • Develop test strategies, models, and algorithms to eliminate issues early in the design phase
  • Optimize the algorithm to work within real-time computer resource constraints, such as CPU cycles, memory, and power consumption
  • Partner with PMO organization to implement build plan
  • Up to 10% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned
