Premier Health unveils two smart Clinical Decision tools.

Premier Health unveils two smart Clinical Decision tools. Premier Health is taking a significant step forward in AI-driven care. The health system has introduced two new clinical decision-support tools available systemwide. Both tools aim to strengthen clinical decision-making and enhance patient outcomes. Together, they represent a broader push toward evidence-based, technology-enabled healthcare. What is UpToDate Expert AI? A Trusted Platform, Now Powered by AI Many providers already rely on UpToDate for timely, evidence-based clinical guidance. Now, Premier Health has introduced UpToDate Expert AI - an enhanced version that brings artificial intelligence into the equation. This tool merges trusted UpToDate clinical content with advanced AI capabilities. Moreover, it meets Premier Health's strict technology, security, and privacy standards. Providers gain faster access to relevant clinical guidance without leaving their existing workflows. The Only AI Tool Approved by Premier Health's Governance Committee UpToDate Expert AI holds an important distinction. Currently, it is the only AI clinical reference tool approved by the Premier Health AI Governance Committee. This approval reflects the health system's commitment to data security and patient privacy. As a result, access to other AI reference tools may be restricted to ensure full compliance with organizational standards. Following strong feedback from pilot participants, the tool is now available to all Premier Health providers who already have UpToDate access. This phased rollout ensured quality before a broader deployment. Providers with questions can contact Dr. Walter Reiling or Dr. David Cha through Premier Health's internal channels. How Image Guide+ supports smarter imaging. Introducing a Clinical Decision Support Solution from Stanson Health The second new tool is Image Guide+, developed in partnership with Stanson Health. This clinical decision-support solution addresses a critical challenge - ensuring providers order the most appropriate advanced imaging studies for their patients. Image Guide+ focuses specifically on three imaging areas: low back, chest, and abdominal imaging. When a provider places an imaging order, the tool draws on information from the order as well as relevant clinical record data. It then recommends the most appropriate imaging study for the patient's condition. Streamlining Prior Authorization and Reducing Delays Beyond clinical guidance, Image Guide+ also supports payer prior authorization requirements. This feature helps reduce administrative delays that often slow down patient care. By aligning imaging orders with payer standards from the start, providers can avoid costly rework and denials. The tool began appearing for ambulatory imaging orders during the week of April 8. Furthermore, Premier Health plans to expand it to emergency department and inpatient workflows in the coming months. This phased expansion ensures smooth integration across different care settings. Why AI Governance matters in clinical tools. Balancing Innovation with Accountability Introducing AI into clinical settings carries real responsibility. Premier Health's AI Governance Committee plays a central role in vetting tools before deployment. This body evaluates technology against organizational standards for security, privacy, and clinical appropriateness. Consequently, only tools that clear this review earn systemwide approval. This governance structure matters for staff and patients alike. Clinicians can trust that approved tools meet a high bar. Patients, in turn, benefit from AI-assisted decisions that remain grounded in verified, evidence-based content. Impact on patient care and workflows. Smarter Decisions at the Point of Care Both tools operate at the point of care - the moment when clinical decisions carry the most weight. UpToDate Expert AI delivers evidence-backed guidance quickly, helping providers make informed choices. Meanwhile, Image Guide+ reduces unnecessary imaging by steering orders toward clinically appropriate studies. Together, these tools support Premier Health's broader mission of delivering high-quality, cost-effective care. Additionally, they reduce the administrative burden on providers, freeing up time for direct patient engagement. A Foundation for Future AI Integration These two launches signal that Premier Health is building a structured, responsible AI strategy. Rather than adopting tools indiscriminately, the system vets, pilots, and governs each solution carefully. This approach protects both clinicians and patients while steadily advancing care quality. Key takeaways. Premier Health has introduced two powerful tools to support clinical decision-making across the system. UpToDate Expert AI combines trusted clinical content with AI and is the only reference tool approved by Premier Health's AI Governance Committee. Image Guide+ from Stanson Health helps providers select appropriate imaging studies and supports prior authorization workflows. Both tools reflect Premier Health's commitment to evidence-based, technology-enabled, and governance-backed care.
