Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or another STEM discipline and 3+ years of engineering experience in an enterprise environment; or 5+ years of engineering experience in an enterprise environment in lieu of a degree
  • 3+ years of professional experience designing enterprise class server infrastructure, specifically x86 servers (i.e. CPUs, PCIe, network, power, memory)
  • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) including tools to monitor, measure, manage, and/or control data center utilization
  • Experience designing and maintaining enterprise-grade, scalable platforms in a data center environment
  • Certifications related to IT infrastructure such as CompTIA ServerPlus, CompTIA Network, CCNP
  • Experience working with multiple vendor hardware architectures
  • Deployment and support of large-scale VMWare environments
  • Experience designing and supporting container platforms such as Kubernetes
  • Linux and/or Windows OS system administration experience
  • Knowledge of data center power design and best-practices
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Willingness to respond to participate in on-call rotation
  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed

Responsibilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert for computer platforms, including the selection, optimization, standardization and validation of SpaceX's data center server hardware products
  • Develop automated reporting of capacity and performance metrics to proactively identify systemic inefficiencies/bottlenecks, usage patterns, overall system health and growth forecasts
  • Mentor our team of systems engineers to help them design, configure and support purpose-built servers, with emphasis on performance-optimized and resilient designs
  • Collaborate regularly with internal SpaceX teams to understand requirements, predict needs, cost-optimize solutions, and cultivate product knowledge
  • Drive the hardware lifecycle process from requirements gathering to architectural drafting, product provisioning, implementation and maintenance
  • Lead complex and cross-functional investigations to triage issues that may span networking, compute, software, firmware and power/cooling
  • Maintain technical documentation pertaining to system architecture, standards and best-practices
  • Define and qualify second-source components and materials to ensure continuity in product line constraints with primary partners and suppliers
